The ENORMOUS CitiField (before they brought in the fences around 2014-2015). It looked like a replica of Ebbets Fields (home of the Brooklyn Dodgers). Fred Wilpon (Mets owner) grew up a Brooklyn Dodgers fan Not only was it enormous (from home plate to the homerun stands), but there was also those mini-huge-walls in left field, left-center, center field, right-center. And there was TONS of grounds that the outfielders, especially the centerfielder, had to cover. What a contrast in stadium size/hitting between the Yankees new stadium and the Mets new stadium

I vividly remember watching that first Yankee game. I was floored by how bad Chien-Ming Wang was given his reputation up to that point in his career. It was tough to watch. Also the amount of home runs that were flying out of the new stadium at this time was absolutely ludicrous. You had to basically hold your breath every time someone hit the ball in the air to right field.

Oh wow, I forgot that Wang was still with the Yankees in 2009. For a moment I thought that after his 2008 injury, that he was out of MLB rehabbing until he returned in 2011 with the Nationals. And its unreal the contrast in terms of hitting and home runs in the Yankees new stadium and the Mets new stadium; one is where popups become homeruns, while the other is where blasts become fly-outs

Lifelong Lions fan...I was at this game. After Favre's 4th interception, as we mocked the piss out of him, a Packers fan in front of me said, "We agree! They should get rid of him...We are so sick of this guy." I assume he changed his mind as time went on.

Went to that game with my buddy. We were both 15 and my biddy got his tickets from his brother and he drove and we illegally parked on Camino Del Rio south and we walked to the stadium. We got there just before the end of the first quarter. Sat field level and witnessed that halftime Hail Mary.. and it was Pom Pom night. A great childhood memory

16:32 that was a very typical mid-late 2000s Giants loss. Bullpen blows lead against division rival. Terrible start for the Giants who have had 4 losing seasons in a row.

11:02 I was at that game. It was originally supposed to be at the new Stanford Stadium, but it wasn't ready yet, so it was played down the road at Spartan Stadium. Stanford missed an extra point, and SJSU won by 1.

Anibal Sanchez (Marlins) with the no-hitter against Arizona. It was the first no-hitter in MLB since Randy Johnson had the perfect game in Atlanta in May 2004 5:55 I can still remember rookie Hanley Ramirez taking his sweet time on the final out of a ground-out with the hitter and speedster Eric Byrnes running to first. I thought he looked safe. 2006 was a Cinderella season for the Marlins, after they had that fire-sale after the 2005 season and started to rebuild. The 2006 Marlins would have been the biggest Cinderella in MLB history if they made the postseason, especially if they won it all. Many expected the Marlins to lose over 100 games, and they were on pace to do so, when they started the season 11-31. But then afterwards, they played great baseball, and at one point even had a winning record AND were in the NL Wild Card race entering September before stumbling in the end towards the end of September. Marlins ended the season 78-84 Joe Girardi, on his first season as a manager and his only season as Marlins manager, won the NL Manager of the Year award Coming back to get a winning record after being 20 games under .500 is the biggest turnaround in MLB history (as of the end of the 2023 season). The previous turnaround record from losing record to winning record was done by the 2004 Rays when they were 18 games under .500 and then turned their season around and had a winning record at one point in the season afterwards before stumbling in the end.

    • @EvanEscher

Byrnes was definitely safe at first. The 2006 Marlins were a very interesting story.

3:30 Cleveland hit 14 grand slams in 2006, which ties the record for most by a team in a season with the 2000 Athletics. Six of those 14 Cleveland grand slams were by Travis Haffner, which tied an MLB record for most grand slams in a season by a player (Don Mattingly in 1987) Both records are as of the end of the 2023 season

Brandon Webb gets pulled on this Opening Day after 4IP with "shoulder tightness" and never pitches in the majors again. 2009 will become arguably the worst season in Diamondbacks baseball in what will happen to the team. Arizona, itching for an Ace that can complete their rotation, would trade for Ian Kennedy who would lead them into the 2011 postseason. Only problem is they gave up a young pitcher in that deal, Max Scherzer. Also missing for them on Opening day for them is 1B Conor Jackson who hit .300 the previous year, whose career is ruined by contracting Valley Fever during Spring Training.
