Because it isn’t all fun and games is it? It’s a dominant sociological narrative, that has real world consequences. The double standards are worthy of contempt.
Romesh has the right mentality about it. It doesn't matter anymore because we all benefit from it. Not to mention that the Indians have been taking land from their neighbours for centuries. Just because they didn't hop on a boat before colonizing doesn't mean they didn't do it
On the off chance of getting hate comments I'm firmly in team Romesh here. It's also not fine for a "person of color" to profit from the misery of other people even if they had the same skin tone. It makes no sense that that's a card blanc. Either it's fine for everyone or it's not fine for anyone.
I don’t think there’s any justification for being racist no matter what race you are or what race you hate. But most people definitely have racist or prejudicial thoughts whether or not they’ll admit it and I honestly think it’s normal. Just don’t be crummy because of those thoughts.
Exactly, once you tell someone it's acceptable for them to be racist then things can escalate quickly and becomes the norm. It's the 21st century people shouldn't have racist views anymore
but wouldn’t it be dope if we could just have like one minute of racism every Wednesday or something, and that would be it, it would just be people angrily muttering slurs into their pillow once a while and legitimately egalitarian the rest of the time- like the purge but for racism

Although I really dig Acaster Im not sure his philosophy that its somewhat OK to hate a group of people just like that is benefitting to anyone. And they come to an understanding about it which is a bit cringe.. Although Ranganathan seemed to regret his racist views from the past.
tbh I think there is a very distinctive difference between the two. Most of brown/black folks dislike for white people come from a place of hurt, speaking as one myself. On the other hand, white people that hate brown/black people is genuinely bcz they are racist. again he talked about being called "chocolate boy" all these negative experiences, we learn to protect ourselves as we grow up. I also grew up from the mentality bcz it brought me nothing but spite for what was. I liked how easy this conversation was tho, should be like that
I think he's saying it's okay as in it's understandable. Like when you've grown up in a country you consider home and people treat you like an outsider because of the colour of your skin or say racist shit to you when you're a child, I bet it's very easy to grow up with the mentality that white ppl are cruel and you want to stay away. It comes from a place of defending themselves not out of malice. Like obviously being violent and abusive towards anyone is bad and I don't think you can ever fully justify it, but I'll forever be more understanding of ethnic minorities in the UK lashing out in defence of themselves than I will be of ethnically English people with the same behaviour.
Richard Hartley not really, it highlights an important point that sweeping generalizations are innaccurate asf meaning obscuring the truth behind the issue making it difficult to sit at a table and find solutions, but whatever i guess.
Yeah, but you look at a country like Japan where racism is a lot more culturally acceptable than in Western countries and you see a lot of open profession of xenophobia. There is something to be said for growing up in a diverse society that constantly bashes racists rather than growing up somewhere where everyone or most everyone is the same race and immediately everyone else becomes obviously foreign rather than ostensibly a member of the diverse group you consider yourself part of. If you have a few generations of diversity people start defining themselves by nationality over race. It's better for the empathy and relating to people if you view them as being a member of your group and with the way a lot of people have been living these past few decades that definition of the group will preclude race more and more. I think "society" has a big impact on the way individuals act. Races aren't racist, but cultures can be.
Takes a level of understanding for these two to be comfortable with themselves. See how easy it is to have a convo about race. Most should learn from this
Okay. I used to like James Acaster. I have even paid to go to his shows. However, the last show I paid to go to was essentially roping his audience into therapy...and now, with this call to active racism on his part, I am now, unfortunately, not interested in him until he grows up a bit and becomes more responsible. To suggest that someone *is* a thing because of their skin colour is repulsive. In a very English way, he assumes that every 'white' person is English - and therefore has 'privilege'. His ignorance of generation-based poverty in the United Kingdom is disgusting. The only 'privilege' I can see apparent in this....is his. That being said, the fault is not entirely his. It is actually on the shoulders of the BBC that is actually advocating this new brand of 'fair' prejudice. We are not by any part moving to the position of societies that make judgements of people based on broad-sweeping assumptions; we are just shifting the spotlight insomuch as who it is okay to direct this vile behaviour towards. Of cause Romesh has to explain why he went thru a phase of not liking white ppl. If James just said he went thru a phase of not liking Black ppl there would be an outcry
Everyone just accepts James slagging off white people as he is being woke but respect to Romesh as he keeps trying to get his point out and he knows it doesn't make it ok to be racist towards white people just because they have a history of being racist to black people. Racism is racism and the only way to stop it is to be aware when you're being racist and question your prejudices. I can imagine a lot of black people feel they have a right to make racist comments about white people but then they're just doing the same thing that's been done to them. It perpetuates it.
Hes not being woke. The joke is that if any race deserved racism it would of course be Caucasians. Not that they actually do. It just illustrates the general ridiculousness of racism as a whole. Also, you seem pretty defensive about this for some reason...

But thrres a reason lmao like this comment that you posted. People dont hate white people for the sake of it its cause some of then are racist lmao
@@Chiko-gm2on some muslims are extremists does that mean its ok to hate all muslims
I was born in Banbury, though I didn’t go to the school there. Bringing your own towels each day to school was necessary? What the hell lol
Lmaoo I love how they've got a guy, who looks as if he came to England during the 'Windrush' Era, just chilling in the foreground.
Monolithic it is the BBC
Two of my favourite minds together! 🤯

Lol at the escalation of atmospheric restsurant side scenes - from one end to the other. Full food circle.
"second least favourite person" from a five year old!! 😁
Who have you been hanging out with, James???
3:42 oh 🥺
Also, you seem pretty defensive about this for some reason...
this is the stupidest thing i have read today lmao

The two best comedians around now
.....I lived near that cafe and saw the film crew there preparing to film this in the morning back in July/August this year...the only thing that could be guaranteed genuine was the cafe and its owners. Just in case those other people you saw...actors. It is one of few places in London that have remained unchanged..so those young hip(ster) media types looking for "something real" and "authentic" whatever the hell that means, are using that location/cafe more and more .... nice owners though.. but the customers were reflecting the gentrification in the area.... especially with the sign in the window stating "sorry but we do not serve cereals So please do not ask".
askaniuk where is it? I feel like I walked past it when they had started filming
Walter Hi .... I'll just say it's in south London ;-)
Can’t wait to watch Star Trek Discovery! I’m stoked!
@@askaniuk No use being coy. We can google it, you know: 258 Norwood Rd, West Norwood, London. And they have a Facebook page.
Two of my favourite comedians!
I love Romesh, i feel like he is a well rounded person. And not well rounded because he has to be for TV, but well rounded from his experiences. I think you can see if through the years with his comedy and also the political shows hes been in.
