    What was the other brand of marker paint that u used and where can u find them? My dad and I want to start creating some board signs to sell. I do a lot of calligraphy on paper but have never tried it on wood! I just want to find the best paint to use to make it as easy as possible and also look good haha. I am also left handed and know the struggle of smearing things lol. U r very talented and seeing this makes me excited to try it out🙂

      Hi, I haven't ever used pallets because I prefer to have an extremely smooth surface to work with, and pallets are pretty textured. The paint pens are "elmer's painters". They're great!

    I noticed you were left handed, and I’m wondering if you may find it easier to paint from right to left to avoid smudging and it would give your arm a break from having to hold it above? You do so well floating your hand above all the lettering haha but I know it must get tiring!
    I’m also left handed and I have found it easier to go from right to left to avoid permanent smudging.
    Looks fantastic!

    Great tutorial! Question: why do you use an oil based paint pen instead of a regular one?

    • @elisaanne
      @elisaanne  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oil based pens are permanent, as opposed to water-based which can be reactivated and will then smudge. Hope that helps!

    Do you finish the wood with polyurethane or something similar or do you leave it as is(or have you ever)? I ask because I am curious if there is any interaction with the finish and the paint pen.

    • @elisaanne
      @elisaanne  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey! I actually haven't ever used any sort of finish on my signs. You really need to finish wood if it's going to experience a lot of wear/tear (for example, a wood kitchen table). The paint pens I use are permanent so I don't use any sort of seal. I'm sorry I can't offer more help in terms of whether or not it would interact with the paint pen!

    • @YookinTryta
      @YookinTryta 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have used all finishes over painted wood using oil basdd markers, let it sit overnight first to dry well. Then add a finish. I also have jsed waterbased poly over oil paint pen work and let that dry super well and waxed over it. You should be fine. Only thing that wont work well at all is using a sealer esp. Water base on a waxed piece. It doesnt stick.

    • @alyssamathews7492
      @alyssamathews7492 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yookin Tryta have you ever tried epoxy? I bet that would go perfect over that and it really gives an awesome glass like finish

    • @alyssamathews7492
      @alyssamathews7492 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yookin Tryta they sell a cheap crafters epoxy thats really easy to use at any craft store like Michael's for example. if you decide to try it out just make sure you get the one in the lighter purple box it dries clear! the darker purple box will dry white.

    • @YookinTryta
      @YookinTryta 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @elisaanne
      @elisaanne  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nate Turner I recommend testing a small piece wood (same type) with the same stain & sealer to see how it works out! Paint pens usually tend to be pretty permanent if they are oil-based but it never hurts to double check!

    Help! Wanna make more art videos on my channel but I'm having a major problem setting up my camera to record! How should I do that?

    I've tried doing something really similar, but no matter how many layers of paint pen I use the wood just keeps absorbing it and it either blurs the edges or gets really pale. I'll try buying the Elmer's instead of the Sharpie, but I'm skeptical because their both oil pens.. Would that be the only thing I am doing wrong ? Or do you seal your board with something (other than miniwax) prior to writing on it. I'm having to go back and hand paint all my lettering and it is very tedious.

      Jessica DAgati they are not both oil pens. The Elmer’s painters are acrylic and are very different. Make sure the stain completely dries for at least 24 hours. I had no success with sharpie pens on wood, they did the same thing to me so that is your biggest problem!

    Hi. I'm an artist and sign painter. Nice sign and refreshing break from the computer signs so prevalent now a days. What did you charge for this sign? I ask just to have a reference thanks.

    What do you use to get rid of the chalk pencil? I erase mine on my wood but it sometimes leaves smudges and I don’t know how to fix that!
