Update March 2024: I bought a 652ce Builders Edition WHB. Matches the 614ce perfectly. I bought an 814ce. The store associate said it was a Builders Edition. Once I arrived home, a closer inspection and a call to Taylor proved it was not a Builders Edition. I returned it and ordered the 614ce Builders Edition. The tone of the 814ce was very nice, but I'm very happy with the tone of the 614ce. Next on my list is the matching 652ce. Fair winds and following seas to all.
When I bought my first acoustic guitar in 2015, I chose an 814CE. But the salesman didn't allow me to buy the one I had chosen. I was presented one from the backroom stock, which had never been played. Being inexperienced, I went along with the (bad) deal. It turned out to sound different from the broken-in guitar I demoed. I tried changing the saddle and bridge pins to bone, which helped reduce the strident tone. I've also found strings that are not as bright as Elixir, but still very clear sounding, with great feel and longevity (StringJoy phosphor bronze.) Between that and natural aging, the tone has matured and I really like it. Of course, the feel and playability have always been top notch. Now I just need to learn how to play it :-).
Hi Teja, great video and two great Taylor products! 👍🏼 I‘m very interested in that song you are playing. This is a part of Judy by John Ranbourn. Is there any possibility that I can buy this as a pdf document from you. Many many thanks! Norbert
Excuse me, but at that price that had better be the blackest ebony ever harvested. I like that wood on most guitars, but this guitar should top the PS series in finishing.
I just had the misfortune of ordering one of these guitars. It sounds very mediocre. I played it next to my GS mini and the mini has better trebles and clarity. It’s a $5000 dud.
Maybe you should have done research before you ordered it so you would understand the sound that comes from sinker redwood. Then maybe you either wouldn’t be disappointed or wouldn’t have ordered it in the first place. It’s a niche sound that you either like or you don’t. Personally, I LOVE mine!
That is a very pretty guitar. The amp too is very pretty.

Stunning guitar and good review as usual. What's the name of the DADGAD tune you played Teja?

Please, i live in Brazil. How much cost this guitar?
$5000 and it sounds mediocre
Does the amp mic XLR input have a phantom power button? Looking at the various pictures, I can not tell.
The low strings sound muffled! 😳
It’s not addi; it’s sinker redwood! It’s not a D28.

Teja, if that's supposed to be 'Judy' by John Renbourn, it needs work!!
Yes and yes ;-) - Teja Gerken
We're here to review a guitar, not the guy's playing, relax.

Not worth 5 grand.
very nasally sounding guitar, just like Taylor pickups - it's unfortunate for an otherwise stunning piece
