What is IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Bodenplatte
The fourth installment of the next-gen IL-2 Sturmovik product line is dedicated to late war aerial engagements between the U.S. Army Air Force, Royal Air Force and the Luftwaffe in the skies over western Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium during the winter of 1944 and early 1945. Bodenplatte was the German code word for the bold operation to launch a surprise low-level attack on multiple Allied airfields on Jan 1st, 1945.

The flight we sent out to bust up that kraut armor today got chewed to hell. None of the planes we launched came home expect for the one Mr. Hall managed to limp home in. With Krauts on his ass our M16's and Bofors 40mm guns filled the sky with lead. I bolted from my sheltered position in the hangar and ran to the wreckage of Hall's bird. As soon as I got there he threw the canopy back and we both ran for the safety of the ditch next to the airfield. The aircraft was a total loss, nothing worth salvaging other than the gun cam footage to review to confirm kills. With 6 kills this make Hall an ace in a day but now I've got to get a replacement plane ready for him. Back to work for me.
I might be dumb, but what do you mean by “M16s”? I’m guessing you aren’t referring to the Colt rifle, right?
@@sirboomsalot4902 no sir. I'm talking about the M16 quadmount AA system used on halftracks and ground mounts. Basically it was a slapdash method of bolting 4 ANM2 .50 Cal Browning Machine Guns together and pointing them in roughly the same direction. That sucker could really put out some lead.

I've heard P-47 & P-51 pilots talk about how they took out Tigers with .50 Cals. They would come in at the Tigers 12 or 6 o'clock and fire right in front of or right behind the tank and ricochet the bullets under the tank to hit & go through the armor plate underneath.
I'm pretty sure 50 cals hitting the engine deck would also do some damage as well.
24:21 that's what happens when you leave your RPM at 100%/3000RPM for the entire flight. Continous is to be left at 2700RPM/ about 85%
Looks like you needed some left rudder when you were running from them around 24 minutes in.... especially if you're trying to prevent them from catching you! That's a lot of lost efficiency!
Coming back and watching these after starting with your current Russian campaign. Amazing to see how much more capable the P-51 is compared to the Mig-3. So much more firepower.
RIP your teammates, but their death allowed for this glorious adventure on YT. They would have wanted it this way!

27:40 what you mean not your best effort you took down an the majority of that 109 squadron and avenged your 2 comrades. those germans pilots must of been like "okay lets finish up this last american and go home" and you just ruined there day and humiliated them. that last german was like "im not letting you go american"

You’re right any pilot would’ve told you when you saw those three and had no cover or wingman for that matter you should’ve dove away and saved your aircraft. Yes your decision worked but too risky imo. Nice video though 👍🏽
Also your throttle was fine but bringing ur rpm down prob would’ve saved ya at the end

Wow, the IL2 mustang is vastly superior to the DCS mustang. The stalls during extreme maneuvers are what would happen if you try to make a 3.5g level turn in a DCS mustang, lol. I'm guessing the truth is somewhere in between, but maybe closer to IL2 than DCS. Why else would the americans even have g suits otherwise? It's next to impossible to induce gloc in DCS.

Great videos! I just found your channel having just picked up this expansion. I am an OLD old WWII flight simmer been waiting for a late war Ardennes area flight sim forever so I was really happy to see this finally come out. Have always had some issues with IL-2 BoS's flight model but it seems like they have improved it and whatever issues are left I can certainly overlook them to have this era of sim again. Brings back fond memories of Jane's WWII Fighters sim from the 90s. You do a great job with your videos. Very enjoyable to watch keep up the great work! Looks like they are adding Battle of Normandy to this too in the future. Wow! Good days!

Can IL2 be compared to DCS in terms of being realistic? Is there multiplayer btw? I heard there was 84 vs 84 player battles.

Sorry for the late write up! It seems you took my spin advice to heart because you recovered from several spins in this flight with relative ease! You're skills are definitely improving and if we ever meet in person I'd be more the happy to take you up in the MJ77.
No worries! Excellent write up as always! I am spinning out alot more than I would like but it is fairly easy to recover in the mustang. Although Everytime I stalled I had lots of altitude to recover...
I would love to go up sometime!
I gotta tell you one thing. If you ever fly with me you have 2 options.
1. Fly on an empty stomach
2. Eat peanut butter and nothing else because it tastes the same coming up as it did going down.

Is there any reason you never modulate your RPM settings? especially when giving your engine a break in-between dogfighting.... even at 58% throttle you are still in combat, when if you modulate your RPM, you could go as high as 74% throttle and still be in continuous mode.

It was nuts! A shame I busted my engine though.
I really want some B17s and B24s for Bodenplatte. The central conflict was keeping the bombers flying and for the germans, stopping the raids.
This game is way cool. I own it and I've tried to play, but I'm just not good at flying. Oh well, it's a delight to see some quality gameplay.
That left wing hit is what took out your left tire assembly. Still, a pretty darn good landing.
What kind of VR or head tracking setup do you use for this game. I have been interested in this game for a long time but I feel like I need better peripherals to play this game well.
Wolf, can I make a suggestion? If you have any controls available on your stick, try to figure out a way to easily control your mixture. You were running a bit rich the whole mission, and that's just throwing fuel away.

I ever get my HOTAS configured for this, then I'm flying iL2 again. No where near as easy, or user friendly configuring like the original game
Really? I thought it was much better than the old Il2. It is very similar to how Rise of flight does it's keybinds.

I was just in combat power more than them. Their engines are pretty smokey too.
