I was napping in my new apartment, very far away from my own Canadian hometown. I was woken up by my neighbor, who was blasting this Neko Case song on the other side of the wall. It's so beautiful, I had my ear pressed against the wall hoping to catch a lyric, looked her up, and found this stunning cover--I'll thank my neighbor next time when I see him. Well done, ladies.
I can't stop listening to this, or even watching it. These two girls are beyond beautiful. You can feel everything, even if you don't know what it is you're feeling. Even the smile exchanges that they share make this song that much more beautiful. There's nothing like finding new music like this, you wonder how you went your whole life before without it. To think how lost you'd feel if someone were to just take it away tomorrow!I
I grew up in Peterborough. My wife and my father both went to PCVS. I hope you girls realize that most people go their whole lives and never make anything quite so beautiful as this. Makes me proud of where I come from.
This is one of my favorite Neko songs and these 2 performed a beautiful rendition, each with their own respective styles. What an honor that Neko posted this to her facebook!!!!
PCVS is more than just a school. It is a place that welcomes and celebrates the range of ways that kids bring to discovering themselves Watching my own daughter come out of this building after classes for so many years, each time reminded me to celebrate the richness that there is within our society and how fortunate we are to be able to rejoice in that diversity. Long live PCVS!
Echoing other comments here--there occasionally are times when I discover something truly remarkable and this is on my all time short list. The skillful audio production conveys perfectly the depth of your stunning voices and the gorgeous tone Kate is pulling from that uke. The video adds real character to the performance as well. I was lucky enough to listen to this the first time with good headphones. Like jmsotak, I won`t soon forget that. Thank you for posting. Please continue to do so.
I first watched this about a year ago and still visit it every once in awhile to watch because I like it so much. I wish the girl on the left could tell us what she was trying to not giggle about the entire time, I love watching you fight it the entire time. both have great voices
I'm so proud to have you go to my school! and the fact that this video has 14,000 views and counting is just proof of your amazing abilities! I hope you make it big because you really deserve it.
I can't stop listening. I really hope you record somethings and make it so I can buy them! Also, I hope Neko has heard this! I think she would be sooo impressed!
Once in a while I stumble onto something really special here. What you both and the person who recorded this have done is inspiring: you captured something so pure and honest and beautiful. It gave me goosebumps and I will never forget listening to it the first time. The video adds such depth to the performance for me. The obvious bond you have makes the audio portion all the more genuine and endearing, Thanks to the 3 of you for taking an already beautiful Neko song to a higher place for me.
Wow...as a big Neko fan i must say you two blew the roof off this song. Keep up the fight for PCVS...good schools that inspire students should not be forclosed on!
I graduated from a high school not unlike this one in Mississauga (C.P.S.S) and I can say that attending a high school with a regional arts program has changed and enriched my life. I spent grade 9 at another school and in comparison, I wish that everyone could have gone to a school like P.C.V.S. because the passion of the students and faculty make for an amazing learning environment that carries over into other non-arts subject areas as well. GOOD LUCK! I hope you can turn this thing around.
You girls sing exquisite harmonies, thank you . I don't know many contemporary musicians who do that very well except maybe The Low Anthem. I hope you save your school and continue to make beautiful music.
This is absolutely amazing. I truly hope that P.C.V.S. stays open for decades to come. I've found myself coming back to this video every few hours. Janelle your voice is insane, I can't get over it! Keep it up ladies you're doing great!
I have watched hundreds of things on TH-cam and this is my first ever comment on any of them just to let you know what a beautiful cover you both made of this song. I love this song so much. Hope your school survives.
Having attended PCVS, transferring there after a not so enjoyable atmosphere at another high school in grade 9, I can say the sense of school community fostered at the school was unmatched by any school I've had experience with. I am proud to call it my high school. It is also an economic necessity for the downtown. City of Peterborough has spent the last 20 years trying to rejuvenate the downtown, and when I come to visit it surely has come a long way, without the student pop. it may die slowly
I had never heard this song before I found this video, so I looked up the original and I made it about 30 seconds through and all I could think of was how I wished I was listening to this version :P Very well done!!!
your two of the most inspirational people ive ever watched and your canadian, watch this video with pride and know everyone is hoping the best for you...
Hi! I heard your cover of this song back when you guys first posted it. I keep coming back to it over and over... it's amazing. You girls sound absolutely amazing! I watch "Ellen" on youtube a lot and was wondering if you guys had submitted your video to her show? I wanted to submit it myself, but it looks like the person who created it has to do it... I sure do hope you guys produce a cd of your own soon... I would buy it!!!
This is well done. It really does suck that you guys are closing. Keep strong though, and bring a part of your brilliant school to the community of other schools. That way, the spirit of the school can never really die.
Every time i think of my old high school i think of how many lives it has effected over the years. The memories made by every individual over decades, its overwhelming. Let P.C.V.S remain to play-out memories to come, and cherish memories past.
This is so wonderful! Beautiful voices. I have many, many fond memories of singing in the same stairwell. Being able to attend PCVS had such a great and positive impact on my life. There is so much artistic talent of all kinds coming out of Peterborough, and PCVS fosters creativity in every way. Keep it open!
@jaredraab Thanks for correcting me. I knew I botched it the minute I hit "post". This is a phenomenal recording, by the way. You captured lightning in a bottle, so to speak, and that takes immense skill.
Fantastic job ladies!!! You're both so talented! As a former Crestwood student I can still say that I always admired PCVS. I hope this really help draws attention to your cause.
I'm now watching/listening to this video for the fourth time after finding your link through fark. I absolutely love you both. You have profound talent. Get on itunes so I can support you and the cause.
So they've decided to close PCVS, where these incredibly talented women found their voices. Where I once found mine. The echo of the hundred-year old halls in this song will always remind me of what we have lost in Peterborough.
Girls, I went to Trent, was the President of the student union and still hold Peterborough close to my heart. I am a graphic artist, copywriter, web designer and familiar with lots of people in the city. If there is any way that I can help - whether it's through awesome posters, a website, lobbying efforts, anything. Just let me know. Love what you're doing, and please keep it up.
Amazing...just amazing...It is truly a shame that the school is closing. My thoughts are with you all as you put up the good fight for keeping arts in education!
Amazing job, ladies! As a PCVS graduate, it makes me so proud that talent like this resides in the walls of that amazing school. All the best in the fight to Save PCVS!
WOW YOU GUYS! AWESOME JOB!! Proud to have gone to school with you Janelle! (If only a year I believe I was there whilst you were?) Anyways, keep opening your hearts, and don't let anyone stop your expression
we are also fans of singing in stairwells and we are super-fans of your version of this song +++++ BEAUTIFUL SINGING ++++++ lovely harmonies ++++++ so so sorry about your school closing xo
I absolutely love these girls. I went and then listened to Neko Case sing it and I love their version more. I was wondering how I could purchase this song. Maybe to somehow support the school?
Probably one of the best covers ever.
can't ever get enough of this. Do these 2 still sing together?
I can't watch this without crying for the pure beauty of it.

I have lost count of how many times I've watched this.
This is one of my favorite Neko songs and these 2 performed a beautiful rendition, each with their own respective styles. What an honor that Neko posted this to her facebook!!!!

years later... still so damn good... love this!
The girl on the right sings so effortlessly and she's amazing!
I first watched this about a year ago and still visit it every once in awhile to watch because I like it so much. I wish the girl on the left could tell us what she was trying to not giggle about the entire time, I love watching you fight it the entire time. both have great voices
My god.... I was raised on Neko Case and can't count how many times I've heard this song... This song, left me crying. And I'm a guy.
I'm so proud to have you go to my school! and the fact that this video has 14,000 views and counting is just proof of your amazing abilities! I hope you make it big because you really deserve it.
1) Compile an EP
2) Put it on iTunes so I can buy it
3) You get money for real talent, I get audio heaven.
You guys are killer.
I think this is such an incredibly beautiful rendition of this song. I keep playing it over and over. Thank you for sharing your wonderful gifts.
I can't stop listening. I really hope you record somethings and make it so I can buy them! Also, I hope Neko has heard this! I think she would be sooo impressed!
I saw neko case playing a festival in san francisco as the fiery sun set behind her flaming red hair. This was just as beautiful.
I love Neko, and I love you! I'm always blown away by young talent and I hope you continue to share those beautiful voices with the world.

What a fantastic sound you ladies make. I thought no one could do a Neko song better than her, but this is pretty darn close. Beautiful.
This is one of the best songs I have ever heard. This one. This version.
I randomly stumbled upon this on a friend's facebook feed. It is so entirely delicious. Thank you. Brightened my day. Y'all are fabulous.
That was the absolute most goddamn beautiful thing I've heard all year. For the love of whatever God you worship, save that school!
I love this! What a fantastic version of one of my favorite Neko Case songs.

beautiful. i got chills with your melodies..... if talent like this is ruined due to the school closing... then i might cry.

this recording ought to be sold on itunes with all proceeds going to the school. really, really lovely. its been on repeat all day.
I had never heard this song before I found this video, so I looked up the original and I made it about 30 seconds through and all I could think of was how I wished I was listening to this version :P
Very well done!!!
I have no words to tell you how much I appreciate this. Beautiful and new. Thank you.

holy crap -- such naturally amazing voices - they make it look effortless but they're so good!
Every time i think of my old high school i think of how many lives it has effected over the years. The memories made by every individual over decades, its overwhelming. Let P.C.V.S remain to play-out memories to come, and cherish memories past.

You make me SO proud to be a PCVS alumni. Carry on, girls, you are amazing.

I'm now watching/listening to this video for the fourth time after finding your link through fark. I absolutely love you both. You have profound talent. Get on itunes so I can support you and the cause.
Beautifully done, ladies. As a faculty member of another arts high school, I know how hard it has been lately. We stand with you in solidarity.
Kate and Janelle, never stop singing
This actually made me cry. It hurts to keep playing it, but I can't stop. It's so beautiful.
Please make more of these and show what we're losing if we lose this school. So powerful.
Just the sounds made me cry....amazing...make them record another
you guys are special. pure music, plain and simple. dont ever give up, and dont let the 'biz' try to change you!! you got it.
The original is amazing, but there's something truly special about the blending of your voices!
I watch this video all the time. Absolutely love it. Fantastic. Keep it up & do some more videos!
So they've decided to close PCVS, where these incredibly talented women found their voices. Where I once found mine. The echo of the hundred-year old halls in this song will always remind me of what we have lost in Peterborough.
Oh my gosh, your voices are GORGEOUS and soulful and perfect for this song, and for stairwells in general. Keep it up gals! Don't stop!
@Hustlerae - they will be performing at PCVS in Peterborough on December 20!!!
You guys rock. Peterborough needs PCVS. Perfect example of the cultured, intelligent and talented artists that PC both produces and promotes.
Girls, I went to Trent, was the President of the student union and still hold Peterborough close to my heart. Girls you're awesome. Brought tears to my eyes. Hope you are still singing.
@jaredraab Thanks! The audio recording was done by the very talented Alex Unger, who (no surprise) is a fellow PCVS grad.
This is amazing! As a Trent student I had no idea this existed until now! I don't want them to close this program :(
This is incredible! So emotional and beautiful ....Made my eyes water... I love the part around 2:40 when they're smiling at each other
I've watched this many times since it was first posted. Just wonderful!
I may get addicted to this
you ladies sound like angels, seriously wow!
@Groundhogmusic They were in Kingston! For the Neko Case show! Wish they had played :(
Amazing...just amazing...It is truly a shame that the school is closing. My thoughts are with you all as you put up the good fight for keeping arts in education!
I just keep replaying it. You both are so beautiful!
Beautiful and inspired - please make more videos! You make me proud to be from Ptbo!
Neko was right when she shouted out to you in Kingston - that was very, very beautiful. Great job, and best of luck.

This is probably my favorite song that exists and you sing it beautifully.
Your voices are lovely! I just love your sound!
WOW YOU GUYS! AWESOME JOB!! Proud to have gone to school with you Janelle! (If only a year I believe I was there whilst you were?) Anyways, keep opening your hearts, and don't let anyone stop your expression
Singin' in the school stairwell! How cool is that? Great musicianship!
What a great message and a great fight, you ladies have amazing voices. Keep on being incredible.
Toooooo good!!! Great meeting you guys on saturday...keep on keeping on!
I'm trying to pretend you didn't make the eyes of an adult, bearded biker wet. Cannot believe this doesn't have more views. Absolutely fantastic.
This is a fantastic version of a great song. I hope you are both still making music, hopefully together.
So wonderful. I want a copy of it to take with me everywhere.
This school was also home to Serena Ryder, Jimmy Bowskill, Sean Cullen and Lester Pearson and a host of others.
Just lovely and so clean!!! Went down like butter!
we are also fans of singing in stairwells and we are super-fans of your version of this song +++++ BEAUTIFUL SINGING ++++++ lovely harmonies ++++++ so so sorry about your school closing xo
I want this version, this one right here on the stairwell, on my ipod NOW! I love it so much!
I wish they'd do more. This is so lovely.
You two should enter the Ptbo Folk Festival. I love your voices, and apparently 8,208 people do too!
Wow. I love Neko Case but... um this is BETTER. Your voices are just lovely. Gorgeous!
I absolutely love these girls. I went and then listened to Neko Case sing it and I love their version more. I was wondering how I could purchase this song. Maybe to somehow support the school?
Love this! Both women have great voices, but the one on the right has a magical sound! I love the way she sings!
Best I have ever heard! Please do more!
Beautiful! You girls are wonderful. Thank you for sharing your art with us. : )
Your voices are incredible.
