I'm 66, soon to be 67...when I was young there was a little radiator repair shop down the street from my house. Though the music they played was a blue grass styled music, this really takes me back. I loved going there with my mom. The grandma would sing this one song that I always called "the lazy song". Kids, huh? Anyway, "Granny" would be singing and her daughter, which would babysit my brother and I on occasions would join in and sing so beautiful. Her mom's voice with them both singing sounded a lot like this. I just can't thank you enough for posting this beautiful version of this song.
I can feel the history, almost as if I’m experiencing collective memories like yours when I sing this song, I can feel it deeper than my own experiences.. thanks for sharing
MS makes a good point. Billie Holiday sez "If you copy, it means you're working without any real feeling. No two people on earth are alike, and it's got to be that way in music or it isn't music." Still, it's a good way to learn - copy something, until your own magical thing emerges from it.
Seriously, one of the coolest clips I've found anywhere on TH-cam. Never get tired of it. You wanna play it loud enough over a good quality stereo that it fills every room in the house. It'll make your eyes water. I wish every bit of life felt this wholesome.
@@meu02136 close, it was about dealing with loss and coping with the pain because of it.. and the interesting ways people do it. The movie is called "PIG" starring Nicholas Cage.
@@beav1221 [spoilers] nah you missed the point. Both Rob and Darius were keeping their lovers alive in one way or the other, eventhough they had died. They weren't psychologically ready to let go of them and take the pain. Darius's wife had attempted suicide which left her in a vegetative state, and instead of letting her die, he kept her alive in his house through medical care, eventhough she was brain dead. He wouldn't let her die. Rob on the other hand kept his partner alive through the pig. It's not made clear in the movie how or why he links the pig to his partner in his head, but eventhough he knows his partner's dead, he's kept her alive in some part of his brain, through the pig, staving away the pain, which he finally was forced to feel at the end of the movie when he found out the pig was dead. There's a parallel made between Darius and Rob, Darius is doing exactly what Rob is, but he's doing it quite literally by not letting her pass away.
Daniel Martine No doubt, this is great. You should also check out the tribute cover of Ben Harper with Jennifer Nettles when Bruce received a Kennedy Center Honor. It's short but a great delight seeing the Boss's eyes light up /watch?v=OXKcyH0Z73k
Heard this in the intro to the movie “Land” and became an instant fan. Such a beautiful rendition, I love the harmonies & cathartic vibe of this so much 💞
I struggle to find anything as beautiful as this anywhere. Such stunning girls. The harmonies. The accuracy of the rendition. It's utterly amazing. The girl on the left even wears a drag racing t-shirt, which I love!
So I've been looking for this version for a while I lost my dad about a year ago and recently while on vacation with my mom she came in the room drunk crying and listening to this I asked her why she listens to it if it makes her cry she said it makes her feel uplifted so thank you I guess it's hard to think my mom is in pain but I'm glad this helps
Grace, beauty, dignity, inner vision, harmony.....and wonderful artful musicianship....all three of these gifted women. Thank you so much for this gift to us all.... It made my morning here. Simply beautiful.....haunting too. I think Bruce would be honored with this version.
What an incredible arrangement and amazing performance! Vocal harmonies are otherworldly with this trio, and the sparse sweet guitar is the perfect foundation. Wow. Just...wow.
The first girl's voice is so delicate and full of passion with her bad desire part omg I love her voice!!! All of them are amazing! Those harmonies are mesmerizing!
Well well well its not often you hear a cover and it knocks you down... Absolutely beautiful cover of a beautiful song. These girls are absolutely on fire 🔥🔥
I’m not a huge Springsteen fan, but this is my favorite song of his. When this song came out, I became a Springsteen fan. You girls did this song justice. Many thanks to you girls for doing what you do.
Yeah I noticed a lot of his songs font have that "catch" that makes you want to dance and listen a million times. The ones that did turned up in the top 10 tho. People know a catchy song when they hear it.
Thank-you for actually singing LIVE. I am so sick of TH-camrs posting videos of them singing in front of a microphone, but the entire thing is pre-recorded, edited, and autotuned. You guys are so incredibly talented. Keep up the good work. The world needs more musicians like you.
I grew up to this song... just a kid crossing America with my brother, mother and father in a Mark III van southbound to Florida for a week or so long vacation. 80's America was more beautiful than I thought at the time. I wish we could go back in some ways. Happy to see you celebrate the moment.
They bring a beautiful, feminine, wistful quality to the song. Very different and thought provoking perspective to the idea of burning desire. Loved it! 💜💜💜
Still the most humbling and ethereal rendition of Springsteen's epic. I never tire of chancing upon this on my TH-cam travels. The sheer beauty of this is timeless.
You know I'm not the one to ever comment on things......ever. But can I tell you that my infant son has bad gas pains a lot. Soon as I put this song on he instantly calms down. What a lullaby. Just a beautiful rendition.
Fantastic job. I feel that this song is lyrically full of a raw intensity. Listening to them, it feels like putting satin sheets on a burlap bed. Loved it.
Mike Johnson I don't know how you could honestly call this soulless. Nothing and no one, not even the man in black, could capture this song like Springsteen. I love the original; nothing I've heard so far can compare but this is still beautiful and ethereal and *soulful* . I actually think it's the ethereal quality that throws it a bit because the original is so visceral... but this is still exquisite.
I think Mike is mistaking gravelly, angsty male vocals for owning the market on "soulful." There is a mourning, sad lilt here, and to dismiss the passion simply because it isn't "gritty and raw" (I presume) is narrow-minded. Honestly, I can't stand the original; it's so grating and dingy and tedious. I think it is one of his worst songs, hands-down. The Staves have given it a new life -- one I can actually get behind.
When I first heard it (and their cover of "So You Remember Me") in "Land", I thought that it WAS the Jennys! ;) Had to wait for the credits to find out it was this other-worldly trio, and now I have to get everything they ever did as well! LOL ;)
How fantastic that this even exists. These ladies sound like they've practiced a lot, and are all very talented vocalists. That we get to see this is amazing. I know it's old, but damn.
This my first time listening to your trio. This is fantastic, amazing harmonies. Of course, it's a great song, and all of you are beautiful girls. I love that Jarod Clemons commented.

FINALLY THIS REACHES THE TOP !!!!!!!!
SWEATPEA !! episode 1
Almost a decade later and this still gives me goosebumps. Staveley-Taylor sisters you will always have my heart.
Discovered this cover while watching a film called Land. Found it hauntingly beautiful and perfectly placed.
Love the arrangement too! I'm disappointed when artists sing a cover and don't really add any value to their version. These three nailed it.
So sorry you get disappointed. I am just searching the internet for a more patronising comment.

As a New Jersey native, I've never heard this done by anyone including Bruce in the stunning manner this is. Brought me to my knees.
That “you cool my desire” at 02:05 KILLED ME! Absolutely knocked me over! This is beautiful 😭
Nowadays he uses viagra. Probably wouldn't want to cool his desire.
1:47-1:55 is the part. One in the middle is the ring leader. Tops
