    AOTY for me! Absolutely phenomenal record.
    I think it's their most accessible album to date and it'll definitely bring new fans to the band. They're modern day Mozarts. They're the masters of modern prog extreme metal, the right successors of old Opeth.

    Well this was a long time coming, wasn’t it?! I remember really loving Citadel back however many years ago and I had completely forgotten how amazingly talented this band is. I really like how the bass shines on the new record.

    I’m glad you brought up the mix, saying the harsh vocals sound sometimes “muzzled” is the perfect descriptor. The beginning of Misericorde I in particular put me off, and I’ve determined it’s because Xen’s vocals aren’t hitting me as hard as I would expect in the mix.

    Once again, an absolute masterpiece. So freaking good.🤘🏻 I hope they find someone who is just as good as Dan on drums.

    Oh, holy crap, I think my friend put on a new song from the Ne Oblivicaris when driving back to his house, that's awesome, if it wasn't then darn, but I'm definitely gonna recommend this to him when I get the chance cause this does sound like something he'll love. I'm definitely gonna check it out whenever i can cause the way you described it in your review sounds pretty cool.

    Very pumped for this. Been listening to a lot of straight forward death and doom so this will be a nice change of pace.

    A band I only checked out just a few months ago. Ne Obliviscaris is a pretty great band. Like they remind of what would happen if you were to put Opeth and Obscura in a blender. I’ll listen to it asap.

    I loved it, but by no means is on the level of the first two albums. Is on the level of URN, but while that one was more calm and melodic, EXUL is more technical and intricate. The thing is that two first NeO albums managed to be both things at the same time and then they struggled to achieve that again. But is not a bad thing, in each new album they specialize in something different and specific, that's nice.

    Definitely a more mature and structured record, but I do miss the adventurous and unpredictable nature of those first two.

    Ne Obliviscaris have been one of my favorite progressive death metal/tech-death bands for a long time, and I am really enjoying this album so far. Not quite as great as Citadel or Urn IMO (that opinion might change) but still super good and some of my favorite prog metal of the year so far :D

      @themetalmeltdownofficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've heard a bit of it, but just a bit. Its alright, a lil overhyped in my opinion.

    • @codybeinert1109
      @codybeinert1109 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@themetalmeltdownofficial Can definitely see where you're coming from even if you've heard only a bit of it, mainly because they're not doing any all that new for the style besides the clean vocals. Although I'm still enjoying it a lot. Really well-made symphonic deathcore with strong vocals and songwriting. Hopefully it grows on you haha

  • @fourseasons4105

    I honestly find this band to be a boring version of Opeth with the one big difference being the addition of a lead violin. But yeah, the music itself doesn't do a lot for me and this new one is no exception.

    • @markpalavosvrahotes5575
      @markpalavosvrahotes5575 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually agree. While I like the violins and the death metal vocals I am not the biggest fan of Tim Charles clean vocals. To me Akerfeldt is a way better clean vocalist. Albums like My Arms Your Hearse Still Life and Ghost Reveries I much prefer over NeO. Actually I may even prefer new Opeth over NeO.

    • @fourseasons4105
      @fourseasons4105 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markpalavosvrahotes5575 It's mainly the songwriting that I find uninspiring, the clean vocals aren't my favorite ever but they don't bother me too much.

    It must suck going through life with Opeth ears. Its frustrating hearing people compare opeth to any band that has clean vocals. Nothing on this album sounds like opeth, the tone, the song structure and patterns are nothing alike. Opeth are one of the most overrated bands in music today. They have one decent album and thats about it. Portal of I and citadel destroy anything opeth ever did!

    • @markymark4068
      @markymark4068 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Opeth have some really good parts but overall I can find them really boring. I wouldn't compare these two bands

    • @wibbles7263
      @wibbles7263 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I love Opeth, I don't think there's any need for a comparison between the two. They're both progressive death metal. That's about it. Btw, what's the one decent Opeth album?
