I had a question ... and then you answered it. Then another question came up ... and you answered it aswell. So you leave me with no questions about rules.
Job well done.
Heheh, glad I got to all of them by the end of it :)
Your gameplay explanation videos are superior. Truly an inspiration.
Thank you, very kind of you to say!
The diligence and tenacity to produce such a polished presentation of this nature is a true credit to you. Congratulations on a fantastic job!
Very kind of you to say Julian!
No surprise given this channel's history, but this was a wonderful walkthrough. Thank you for the effort put into this; it shows!
Very kind of you to say Brendan!
Rodney, everytime I look for a tutorial of a particular title, I am first checking your channel and I am so happy if I find out there. So exact and straightforward. Thanks again for your persistency over the years. Big fan of you! Greetings from Poland!
Greetings back from Canada - thank you for the kind words!
Very clear and informative. I had problems with the rulebook and your video helped a lot.
+shatnershairpiece Very nice to hear, I hope you have a great time playing!
Your channel is by far my FAVORITE channel to not only learn how to play board games, but to also find new ones! I actually found out about smallworld through your channel! Thanks for these super helpful videos, and I love how your kids are integrated in them!
Thanks so much Touch, that was very kind feedback for you to take the time to leave. Happy gaming!
very thorough and fast explanation. you didn't mince your words either.
+Tom Messig Thank you Tom, very glad you enjoyed it!
This may be an old video, but it will never GET OLD
Thanks for what you do
Thanks for the kind comment!
Thanks for this, I always forget the nuances of Keyflower between plays (which sadly are about a year apart) and this video makes me rules-confident again
Very glad it was helpful!
Ditto!
A helpful refresher and I learned a new rule - that you can use outbid workers in exchanges - not sure how often that would be used but not one I caught previously.
My only disappointment was that you said "To start, each player collects a player screen", rather than "To start, each player constructs their home.", since the house building is always when the excitement of this game starts for me.
I'm so late on this, but I finally had a chance to watch this video. Wow! Rodney, thanks once again for all your time and effort in explaining this game in such an organized way! It looks like a beast of an undertaking to script and film all this. I appreciate the concise instructions. I can now fully understand how the game is played and have added it to the top of my wishlist! As always, you rock!
Hey Bryan, it means a lot to have the effort involved in these videos recognized. A lot of it happens off camera, so thanks for your kind words.
Sat down to play the game tonight. Grabbed the rule book and started reading. My friend and I where so confused 2 pages in. We searched in TH-cam for videos. Found yours, figured a fellow maritimer would help us. You made the game so easy to figure out. After watching, the game was easy to play.
+Patricio Garcia Cheers, fellow Maritmer gamers :)
Gosh... I've had this game for months and have played quite a few games now, but I see I always played it wrong... oh dear oh dear! Glad I watched this! Thanks Rodney!
Hey - glad we could help. It'll be like playing again for the first time :)
This video is so good. Literally anytime I had a question, the next sentence he said answered my question entirely. Superb.
So nice to get hear this video was helpful - thank you!
Hello Rodney -- I just wanted to post and say thanks so much for this wonderful instructional video -- we recently played our first ever game of Keyflower -- and we were able to set up and play the game by just using your video! We kept the rules by our side and scanned them for extra detail on the particular tiles that came up -- but otherwise the video was such a great way to learn the game and was all we needed. Your videos are so clear -- detailed and professional in presentation -- I just wish you had done instructionals and playthroughs for more games in our collection! Keep up the good work -- it is much appreciated :)
Thank you so much for the kind words Claire. Very nice to know you found the videos helpful, and I will continue making more so that hopefully I can get to some others in your collection :)
Like the updated "theme" music! Great job on the video too, another terrific how-to! I have lost count of the number of games you have introduced me to that I now own. Keep up the great work!
Chaz just continues to do great stuff for us. Thanks for the kind words and glad to hear you've found the series helpful!
Thanks for the instructional. Very nice looking game and pleased to see meeples rather than blocks ;)
Looking forward to seeing the play through.
Glad you enjoyed this tutorial!
Hi Rodney. I just got this game, and this video is the best Keyflower video out there, great job! Thanks for all the hard work you do to make learning these games fun and much easier.
Mike, with such kind words, it's most certainly my pleasure.
Thank you! I've just bought Keyflower and read the rule book with no luck trying to get to grips with the game. Your video helped tremendously. :-)
Very glad to hear that Martin - I hope you have fun playing!
Greetings from Greece.I bought the game because of you.Great job.
I hope you have a great time playing - greetings from Canada!
I've got to say, I've been subscribed since the second playthrough, and while the content quality has always been awesome, the production quality has become absolutely superb! One of the best produced boardgame channels by far. Keep up the good work!
As for KeyFlower, this is going on my wishlist. Just from your how to play, I can tell there is an immense amount of strategy involved.
It's especially nice to hear from the people who have been with us since the beginning and are still enjoying the content. Thanks so much MissAshyQ!
Thanks for taking the time to put this video together. Very informative.
So glad you enjoyed TC!
Your tutorials really spoil me! They are unbeatable clear, that even people like me who aren't from an English speaking country could also understand well. Both your explanation and high quality of video production always help me get into the game in the shortest time. I wish you could have "How to Play" for all games! :)
Ah, thanks so much for the kind words - that's very appreciated.
Thanks for making this video! Super helpful.
So glad you enjoyed Aaron - hope you had a chance to play!
Thanks, Rodney! Great job explaining the rules! You are the best.
And you are very kind - I hope you have a great time playing!
Thanks for another really helpful video. Cleared up a few things we weren't sure about from reading the rules.
Very nice to know it helped Dean.
Love your explanation and instructions! really helps. Just ordered this game and shows up tomorrow
I hope you have a great time playing Nathan - thanks for the kind comments :)
Thank you for this excellent rules explanation! Very comprehensive, and saved me the trouble of sorting through pages and pages of rules :-D
You're very welcome - glad it was helpful!
Very clear explanations. Concise and organised!
+da1otta Thank you - glad you liked it :)
Saw this on the shelf at one of my local board game cafes, but we didn't have time to sit down and learn it. This video really made it seem really accessible, so we'll definitely have to play it next time.
+Zero Bad Ideas Glad the video was helpful, but more importantly I hope you guys have a great time playing!
I said it already once but your videos are very nice. thank you for the rules! you are doing a great job and you explain it very well.
Well, I appreciate the reaffirmation. Glad you're enjoying the videos!
That was a great video. I had some questions after reading the rules but I don't anymore. Great job!!!
Wonderful feedback, so glad this helped clear things up!
Fantastic explanation.
Keep up the great work!
+yair1010 I appreciate that - thank you!
Great job once again! This one seems like it's filled with strategies!!
Glad you liked what you saw!
Just played this yesterday for the first time and this video made it possible!
So glad to know it was helpful Mark!
Magnificent stuff Rodney, this really helped me out!
Great to hear it Christopher, have a fun time paying!
One of my favorite games that I don't get to play all that much. I think I could generate a bit of interest though with this video. Thanks for the clear run-through!
You're very welcome Thomas - hope you get some interest :)
Really helpful video and much appreciated. Thanks!
My pleasure Vapor - thanks for the nice feedback.
Keyflower looks very interesting. Looking forward to the play-through episodes.
This one is an instructional video only. We will have another full play through series coming up soon. Just a few games I'm hoping to get on the show before Christmas break :)
As always, great overview of game play.
Thank you Paul, I appreciate that.
Extraordinary clarity, thank you!
So glad you liked it Luca. Have fun playing.
Love worker placement games, been playing a lot of viticulture/Tuscany and lords of waterdeep and have just ordered this as a xmas present to myself - great video sir you make digesting the rule book so much easier - have a great Christmas and keep up the good work
+1969mrmongo Very nice of you to say! I hope you have a great time playing :)
Thanks so much for this video! I've had this game for several months, but haven't gotten around to learning it yet, this helps immensely! No one can break it down quite like you Rodney.
That's very nice of you to say - I'm glad if this helps get you on the right track!
This is a great game! Can't wait to try out the expansion soon :)
Hope you got a chance to try it!
Great overview Rodney, This was my most anticipated game from last year's Essen. I just recently was able to get it, It's a birthday gift which comes up in Dec. A little more waiting but this will help ensure I play everything correctly,
Hey - great to hear our timing worked out :) Glad you liked it!
first played Keyflower at gencon, loved it so much bought it instantly
I've had it for a little while and glad I finally cracked into it.
Thanks for the superb video Rodney!!!
You're very welcome!
Thank you for the explanation, helped me a lot!
So nice to hear - glad you enjoyed!

+Stanisław Anweiler Very pleased to hear you liked the video - thanks!
reaaaaally great!! clear explanation, thanks!
You're very welcome Alexia!
Awesome video as the game looks like a beast, but now I get it. You are the best at this!
Glad this helped!
Really interested in this game, can't wait to "watch it played"
Some of the videos we feature, we just do an instructional video for and this is one of those ones. This usually just depends on our schedule at the time.
Rodney, thanks for all of your videos. I've been a follower for the last few years. Do you have any videos where you review games or discuss things you personally like/dislike? Or just review your favorite games? I understand that reviews are not the main focus of what you do, but it would be a fun tangent for fans, i think.
Hey Ryan, thanks for the thanks :) Very nice to have you watching! I talk a little about reviews and recommendations here: th-cam.com/video/p0Lv8LHadMc/w-d-xo.html&t=10m55s
Wonderful video. Sir, you are excellent rules teacher!
Very kind of you to say, thank you.
Amazing explanation, calm voice tone.. and incredible no-look skill when "put them back to the box" phase occurs.
Very glad you enjoyed!
Dear Rodney, great video! I've played this game before but you did an EXCELLENT job of explaining it :) Really inspired me to be a better teacher / game master :) keep up the good work! watching more "watch it played" now! :D
Angela Lin So pleased you enjoyed the video! Glad you'll be joining us for future ones :)
all of your videos are super useful! thank you so much for making them!
You're very welcome Philip - thanks for the kind words!
game sounds little like carcassone witch is one of my favorite games. I went my local retailers web store and they were all sold out.
sounds like a great game and not that long or hard game.
keep this show going it rly tells me lot about new games that i havent seen and now i want to play all of them xD
Very glad to hear that - we certainly hope it can help you make informed choices :)
Awesome tutorial, as always!
So glad you liked it!
I've played this game a few times before, but I recall the rulebook being a little byzantine. Your video was very clear; thanks!
Glad you found it helpful!
great video, thanks for making this
My pleasure Jade, glad you enjoyed it.
awesome explanation Rodney!
Thanks :)
Rodney, can you please record a gameplay of this game? It's in my favorites and I'm really, really happy to see that you record a "How to Play" of it, but I'd love to see a little bit of gameplay too. Thank you for the video!
Keep it up with the great work!
Thanks for the interest Yago. No plans to record a play through of this one currently.
You really have a properly done layout there. I usually just leave things in piles. Except for the tiles and the meeples in the bag.
Heheh, yes, I do find this helps keep things straight :)
Great video. Thank you very much.
You're very welcome Brad, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Rodney!
You're very welcome!
As a long time viewer, all the way back to Mansions of Madness, I gotta say -- I absolutely love what you've done with the set work and lighting! You're a pro, Rodney!
I'm an amateur making slow, small steps :) but the veteran viewers like yourself have seen the progression, and I'm pleased to hear you think it's gone in the right direction. Thank you.
*****
You call your self an amateur but I don't think you are correct. An an amateur is "a person who engages in a pursuit, especially a sport, on an unpaid basis" Correct me if i'm wrong but you make a living doing this. This is your job. By definition this makes your a Professional weather you like it or not.
Shawn Penson By that definition I will concede :)
I am going to play Keyflower in a few days and once again WatchItPlayed has come to the rescue. 'Mall Santa' Forrest from the Dead of Winter Gameplay is going to be the leader in my new settlement, having to leave the U.S. mainland from the Zombies with his new fanatic followers.
You do the best, wackiest game crossovers of anyone I know :)
Thanks for making the video, super helpful, and great job explaining. Can't wait to play the first game!!!
I hope you have a great time John!
Awesome! Thanks!
You bet - glad you liked it!
Great video. By far, the best I've seen teaching how to play Keyflower. Although the game mecanics are not difficult, the way it's played can scare at first those who are just casual boardgamers. Sadly, my wife doesn't speak english, because if she did, this would be the video to show her how to play the game. Keep up the good work ☺
João Felipe Fogageiro Olival I wish I could offer subtitles on my videos for people who don't speak English, but that is quite a bit of extra work. I am glad you enjoyed the video though!
+Watch It Played Hello sir, thank you for your effort on this video. I pretty much agree with Mr. Olival for what he wrote. Your work here is the best "How to" of Keyflower. My English is also limited but I clearly understand your explanation(maybe because you carefully choose words and your professional quality of clear talking etc). I'll have to introduce the game to my friends this weekend, so your video is great help!
+Watch It Played I also have watched your "The Grizzled" video before I played the game with my friends. Excellent work as your other tutorial videos. Thank you very much!
+Yewtah Szky Very nice feedback to receive. I can imagine it is a challenge to learn from someone speaking in another language, so I'm pleased to hear that I can be followed reasonably well.
I just love your how to play videos. Clear, concise and very helpful.
+pejtijor Thank you very much!
Rodney, in a future video could you please give us a step-by-step guide on how you construct the "house" player shields? Mine always seem to fall apart! Thanks!
lol, I don't blame you for requesting one. If you are on our Facebook page, maybe I'll do a quick video showing how they work :)
I like your videos thank you !
ΣΠΥΡΟΣ ΛΟΥΚΑΣ Very nice to hear you are enjoying them. Thanks!
what a great video. nice work
Chris Theouli Thank you Chris.
Great explanation 👌👍🤘
Thank you kindly - glad you found it helpful!
I love the mechanics of the game.
Thanks for checking it out!
Great Vid as usual!
I do have 1 question though:
Is it advisable to recommend this game to players who are new to worker management-type games? It kinda seemed complicated. :/
Hmmm.... I do make a point of avoiding recommendations, because everyone is so different and what is easy for one person new to worker placement may still be hard for someone else new to worker placement.
If you found you were able to follow the rules as presented in this video, then with the game in hand and a second watch through, I suspect you'd come out all right.
Excellent!
Thanks Rob!
@watchitplayed Rodney, I've been watching a lot of your more recent videos as I am still fairly new to the hobby. I just watched this video as I have recently purchased it. As usual your content is the standard by which all others are measured... you set the bar when it comes to tutorial videos for board games. I'm posting this for 2 reasons, 1. to show you that your older videos still get viewed and help new gamers learn older games, and 2. to say that your videos age really well... seeing your newer videos and older videos, your professionalism and clarity have remained excellent, your backgrounds and production have evolved but from an already great start. Watch it played is my favourite board game channel and one I recommend to anyone asking how to play board games. As a viewer, I thank you for all your hard work as I can only imagine what we see is only the tip of the iceberg and that there are a lot of hours behind each one of these videos that we never get to see...
That is very kind of you to take the time to note, and want to share with me. I try not to take myself too seriously, but I do take what I "do" pretty seriously, and this is a very nice compliment to those efforts. Thank you kindly.
thnaks for the video. i've played Kyflower twice and i still don't get if (in winter) you only get a boat if you bid on it? or in the turn order tile?
In Winter, those who bid on boats get first pick, then after they have taken boats, people who did not bid on boats (going in turn order), also get to take one. Hope that helps.
You can be a great teacher!
Thank you, that's very kind!
Great video. Great explanation and overall great walkthrough of the rules. Makes my head kind of hurt though. Have you played this with any of your family? Looks like it'd be fairly "heavy".
I haven't played it with my family, just my game group.
Hi. Before anything else just wanna say that this is by far the best tutorial for keyflower. Keep up the good work. I just have one question. Assuming that your transport has the number 4. You could do the ff:
1) move 4 resource in one tile 4 space
2) move 4 resource in different tile 1 space each
3) move 1 resource on one tile 3 zpace and 3 resource on another tile 1 space.
Is this correct? The way i understNd transport is that you could move a maximum of 4 resource for a total of 4 move action. Please correct me if im wrong. Thanks again.
+Richard Guidote Your third option is invalid. You could move a 1st resource 3 spaces and a 2nd resource only 1 space, since you've used 3 moves already in the 1st resource. You couldn't move 3 resources 1 space each after moving a resource 3 spaces first.
+Richard Guidote The way the rulebook reads for a transport of 2 is that 1 resource could be moved 2 spaces or two resources could be moved 1 space. (individual resources not resource type). By this explanation your first option there is also illegal. Regardless of being on the same space, you are only allowed to move 4 resources 1 space with a transport of 4.
Got it. Thanks
Thanks for the kind comment (and thanks to the other viewers who were able to get to your comment before I was!)
Question: When relocating meeples from losing bids, I understand that you can move them to be used to bid or activate an active, but they have to moved as one unit - they can't be separated. Let's say I have a losing bid of four meeples, is it possible for me to activate an action on a tile using these four meeples? I'm guessing no since that would make the activation invalid. If no, then what if I had three meeples to relocate, can I then activate a tile (assuming there are no meeples in it yet).
David Sioson You can move 4 workers from an outbid location, to "utilize" a tile, as long as the total number of workers on that tile does not exceed 6. Six is the maximum number of workers that can be placed directly on a tile.
At 11:40 you mention that if a tile is not chosen (bid) and there's a meeple over it, "even a green one", that meeple is returned to the bag. Is that correct? There will be green meeples in the bag, in some cases? (greetings from Brazil!)
+Rafael Maia Right.
Damn, been watching your videos.. this one is one of the oldest so far. You aged well brother, good job
Hey, thank you kindly :)
I'd also like to mention that thanks to your helpful play-though video, our group had a very fun and successful game of Keyflower! Will you be covering the expansions for this game?
Glad you liked the video :) No plans to cover the expansions.
Iren is my favorite rezourse.
All right, settle down over there.
@@WatchItPlayed haha all in jest, love your videos, have taught me and my wife many games!
can you use the purple meeple to bid? Like a color that only one player has access to
Great question! The purple meeple is just to show who is the start player for that round. It might be used for bonus points during scoring, but it cannot be used for bidding. If you have access to the green meeples before any other player does though, you can certainly bid with them (and likely guarantee you win that bid).
Watch It Played yeah, that's how I had understood from your video, but wanted to make sure! Thanks a lot!
My wife and I love this game ... can't wait for the Farmers expansion to hit Canada! Everything is better with animeeples ;)
Yes, I will be checking this one out when it releases as well.
This makes me think of Kingsburg, which I wouldn't mind trying
You end up giving this one a try?
@@WatchItPlayed I did end up buying Kingsburg w/ it's expansion, & later traded the expansion for a copy of Carson City!
Thankx for asking! Hope you are well Rodney!
@@rockxhero Thanks Jake, I'm doing well!
Can u make How to play on Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar?
No plans to currently, but it's one I would consider.
I am not sure I can manage with rules without you teacher^_^
Hey Rodney, is this game available now? Or out of print?
I’m not sure
Rodney, have you played Keyflower as a 2 player game? If so, what did you think of it? I'm really chomping at the bit to go to my FLGS and pick it up, but I'd mostly get to play it with my wife or best friend in a 2 player setup, so I'm curious how it feels with that player number.
I haven't tried this two player.. I looked online and have heard it plays well with 2, but its hard for me to know if that means you'll also enjoy it as a two player game. Wish I could be more helpful!
Quite alright Rodney, I was just wondering about your experience with it. I've ordered the game anyway! I showed my wife your instructional video yesterday, and while she said the game sounded complex she said it looked good! I'm hoping it'll arrive before my game day this coming Friday!
Brennen Hilgendorf Here's hoping you have great success sharing the game with your wife and many excellent games together!
Will we get to see any game play for this?
Just an instructional for this one because I have a few different games I'm trying to do before Christmas and time is running a little short. That said, at least one of them will include a play through - had to make some tough choices there!
Looks like Carcassonne mixed with Suburbia mixed with Tiny Epic Galaxy :)
Great video Rodney!
Thanks Joel! Glad you enjoyed the video!
thanks for this tutorial! This is so clear; the rulebook is a mess!
p.s. someone has to add italian subtitles :D
+DiLeZ: since 90s Glad you found the video helpful!
Thanks for doing this tutorial, the rulebook in portuguese is REALLY bad ^^
Glad this was helpful!
