The original covers, both US and UK, stand out on the shelf more and fit the atmosphere better IMO. They’re part of what drew me to the series in the first place.
So Lynch interviewed with Brian McClellan on McClellan’s podcast a while ago and Lynch said he was working on 3 novellas which I think will probably get released before book 4.
I’m especially excited for The Thorn of Emberlain, because the epilogue of Republic of Thieves has me HYPED!!!! But I also can’t let myself get hyped until we get a confirmation….
A while ago he announced on substack that there would be three new novellas released that take place in between books 3 and 4 so I expect the new announcement will be the release dates
Scott on his Substack, last year, talked about some novellas that were in the works. So it is probably that. Most importantly, I'm very glad he's found medicine that seems to help. He's been very open with his struggles with bipolar disorder.
I JUST finished The Republic Of Thieves this morning so i won’t pretend to know how fans feel about Lynch taking forever to finish the series…all i want to say is that TROT ended on a high note and i cant wait to have book 4 in my hands
Oh very cool news! The new cover is so pretty and gorgeously illustrated, but the book suits the rough charm of the older cover much better. This blue one is very pristine for a story that contains bodies being pickled in piss... And yeah you're right it does kinda look like those romantasy type covers 🤣
I read the GB books really fast a long time ago-maybe in my late teens?-and can remember almost nothing from them now plot-wise, but the fact that Lies is one of your favourite books makes me want to revisit them and read them as an adult. I love your fantasy lore videos so I’d definitely watch them if you made them.
1:41 haha..i feel ya. When i was a beginner fantasy reader, the first thing i did was finish up on the big three unfinished series. But the wait will be worth it when/if any of the three ever releases.
Finally read this series and god damn! I can not recommend it enough to people, book 2 especially! I went and got a special edition from Gollancz, it's so good, can't wait to have the set like those.
I am all in on any and ALL Gentleman Bastard videos you want to make. I reread the series at the beginning but of each year. I’m 3/4 through Lies as we speak. And of course I am eager for more Lynch GB, no matter the form
Alwo yeah would love to see more on the gentleman bastards, got back into reading with kingkiller and when i found out it wasnt finished i picked up lies' and then found that wasnt finished😅 I gotta do more research when buying books
I haven't been this excited about something since I discovered peanut butter O_O Seriously though, probably a new project. If it were Thorn of Emberlain, people have been waiting for it for so long I feel like they'd want to get the word out fast, like when Jim Butcher finally followed up on Skin Game.
I pre-ordered Thron of Emberlain more than 5 years ago. The release date constantly being pushed back. I don't believe it being published before it officially hits the shelves.
I'll believe it only when I see it. Scott Lynch is equal to JRR Martin in my eyes now. I trust nothing until I get the actual book in my hands. That being said, I have read the first three books so so many years ago that I would need to re-read everything from scratch if the 4th book actually comes out. But this time around I'll skip the past event timeline in Book 3 cause I remember I hated all of those chapters and I only wanted to get back to the plot that was happening in the current timeline.
If it is book 4, then I will finally pick up the series sooner rather than later. I haven’t picked it up mostly because I have so much else to read and since it’s unfinished it’s on the back burner of my TBR. I do think the cover looks like a YA cover. I wouldn’t pick it up based on this cover. I would with the old cover though.
I don’t want to use the “A” word but… yes I do, holy cow an adaptation would be absolutely immense. My head cannon always played this book out in the vein of the RDJ Sherlock Holmes style cinematography.
I have always wanted your current original cover book. In the US I have only found the basic mass market paperback. The new one gives me Arabian Nights vibes, though… not really for me but to each their own 👍🏽
I love the artwork on the new cover from an artist perspective. It’s beautiful. It has wonderful nods to the world. However, in my opinion, the colour is far too saturated. To me, it doesn’t suit the world. There seems to be a trend from some book cover designers that the colours are too blocky and too saturated but that’s my opinion. I do like the new cover design elements, but maybe if the colours were toned down a bit and aged more, it may suit the story better, like the original covers.
Gonna give it a 99.9% probability those 3 novellas are coming over the next 12-18 months, and at least a 50% likelihood of NO solid date for Emberlain. The latter depending whether all 3 novellas are complete. I'd bet only one or two at the ready.
I LOVE the original cover more, but only book 1 and 2 (Seas is nice in red). Republic is ugly and I HATE the one goodreads has for Thorn of Emberlain. So for overall series, I’m happy it has a new design.
Haha 😂 I didn't notice it at first, but yeah it really is giving off YA/romance vibes. I mean the illustration is really nice and it's a beautiful cover, but doesn't exactly fit the tone or feel of Locke Lamora
Lynch and Martin have now completely cured me of starting incomplete series. Both of these series I excitedly told all my friends to pick up when they very first hit the shelves. That is nearly 30 years ago now for GoT - what a joke. GB equally blew me out of the water. GoT and GB have been bittersweet and I am so not interested in reading any of their diversionary fiction.
“Maybe it will be some new novella”
*Patrick Rothfuss has blocked you from chat*
The original covers, both US and UK, stand out on the shelf more and fit the atmosphere better IMO. They’re part of what drew me to the series in the first place.
Man the potential for Gentleman Bastards is immaculate. I really can't wait for Thorn of Emberlain
Can't wait!! 🙌

I’m especially excited for The Thorn of Emberlain, because the epilogue of Republic of Thieves has me HYPED!!!! But I also can’t let myself get hyped until we get a confirmation….
Lies of Locke Lamora is also my favorite book. I would love to see you do a lore series for it. You have done an amazing job with other series.
Lore video would be incredible
saw the thumbnail. … screamed
A while ago he announced on substack that there would be three new novellas released that take place in between books 3 and 4 so I expect the new announcement will be the release dates
I love this series, of the big unfinished ones right now it may very well be the one I want the most
Scott on his Substack, last year, talked about some novellas that were in the works. So it is probably that.

Love you channel, keep up the awesome work 💪

Gosh, I hope so 😭

he did say, a year or two ago, that he was gonna release some novellas to fill the gap between book 3 and 4
Awesome, love the series, excited for the next book!
I’m excited about this book too, also nervous….😬 thank you!!
Finally read this series and god damn! I can not recommend it enough to people, book 2 especially! I went and got a special edition from Gollancz, it's so good, can't wait to have the set like those.
More Locke Lamora videos please!
Couldn't agree more! Anything new from Scott lynch is welcomed from my part
I am all in on any and ALL Gentleman Bastard videos you want to make. I reread the series at the beginning but of each year. I’m 3/4 through Lies as we speak. And of course I am eager for more Lynch GB, no matter the form
I would enjoy seeing you do more content on the Scott Lynch Gentleman Bastards books.
Would definitely love GB summary content and theories!!!
3 new short story books coming out focusing on events between book 3 and 4!
I’m currently reading The Lies of Locke Lamora and enjoying it so much!
“Wait until you see what I do to the characters.”
What the heck does that mean Scott😃
Dead Jean 😮
Do we know if they are doing new matching covers for the full series? So far I've only seen the first book 😢
I'm not usually one to buy multiple copies of the same book just because of different editions, but this new cover is Damn gorgeous
Bruh it's been like.... 8yrs or something crazy that we've been waiting for book 4
I only have the audible versions, I've never found any of the books on the shelf :( Maybe I can preorder this new one!
Alwo yeah would love to see more on the gentleman bastards, got back into reading with kingkiller and when i found out it wasnt finished i picked up lies' and then found that wasnt finished😅
I gotta do more research when buying books
I think it might be news about "More than fools fill graves", the novella that was announced last year.
Ahh you're right! It's most likely this. Still very excited for a new story from Lynch!
@@CapturedInWordsMe too, whichever story he releases next will go straight onto my TBR :)
I just finished the first 2 books in the last week. Damn good stuff.
It’s been hard for me to find a hardcover edition or even a paperback. My local stores only offer trade.
Yes, please make videos on the gentlemen bastards!
I haven't been this excited about something since I discovered peanut butter O_O

Amazon Canada are saying that Thorn will be released on Oct 15 2024 with April 15 2025 for the paperback.
I agree about having a soft spot with the old editions but the new one is pretty snazzy
French cover by Bragelonne edition is such beautiful too
I'll believe it only when I see it. Scott Lynch is equal to JRR Martin in my eyes now. I trust nothing until I get the actual book in my hands.

Yes! Please do Gentleman Bastard videos 😊
Im starting the lies of locke lamora today
Awesome!! Hope you enjoy it :)
@@CapturedInWords I bet I will! I got the audiobook cause it's easier for me to listen to books while I am painting
The audiobook version is what I prefer, love the narration!
@@CapturedInWords it's amazing so far!!!! The narrator is awesome!!
Yes on GB videos!
Scott Lynch said last year that Thorn of Emberlain was completed and ready to go and hopefully coming soon.
Soooooooo who knows what’s true or real?
If it is book 4, then I will finally pick up the series sooner rather than later. I’ve never read them but both covers seem nice
So book 4 of 7 maybe in 2025. That suggests the series will be finished in year 2061 if each book takes the same time to write. Cooool...
i wait 10 years for band 4
maybe some character videos? (about lies of locke lamora)
Might be for the Broken Binding set. I hope they make different covers.
It looks good
I'd love more Locke videos. I just read all 3 books last year and know no one who has read them.
Will definitely be making some videos on the series!! :)
It's beautiful, but I really hoped there would be a hardcover edition!
I think no hardcover version is definitely a missed opportunity!
I'll stick with my signed and numbered of 200 10th anniversary limited edition
Not the biggest fan of the new cover...but I'm excited to hear that Lynch may be back at it!!
Yaaaassss please do lore videos
I love the artwork on the new cover from an artist perspective. It’s beautiful. It has wonderful nods to the world. However, in my opinion, the colour is far too saturated. Hype!?!?!?!?!?
The new cover edition looks nice but I much prefer the original covers. Book 1 was great but I haven't continued on yet.
just binged the series on audible...yummy
The narrators voice is really good in the audio books

That new cover gives off very YA/romantasy vibes.
Holy shit…I left this comment right at the beginning of watching the video….then you go on to say the same thing😂
Haha 😂 I didn't notice it at first, but yeah it really is giving off YA/romance vibes. I mean the illustration is really nice and it's a beautiful cover, but doesn't exactly fit the tone or feel of Locke Lamora
@@CapturedInWords exactly haha
Jay you got me overhyped!!
I like it!
YESSS. GB is my favorite series and it got me into reading/fantasy. The third book was disappointing but I have faith in book 4!!
Book 4! or he's a bastard :D
I'm just waiting for Dirty jokes😆
That cover looks so gorgeous! Too bad it seems to be only paperback and not hardcover.
The illustration is really beautiful!! I'm really surprised it isn't going to be hardcover, seems like a missed opportunity
I don't harass authors, but I don't support them when all they do is re-release their old stuff either
Me too pal!
What!?

GoT and GB have been bittersweet and I am so not interested in reading any of their diversionary fiction.
He’s too busy with TDS to finish his book
Not a fan of the new cover. The name of the book taking up the entire front center is basically the same as every book ever.
