The Top 6 Successfully Redeemed Pokémon

- Every now and then there are Pokémon that don't quite reach their full potential, or are just kind of ignored. This is always kind of sad, however on occasion these Pokémon can be redeemed in some way, resulting in renewed attention and appreciation, sometimes without even meaning to! So which Pokémon have had the most prominent redemption stories?

People forget that the reason Bidoof ascended to God hood was because it got the ability "Moody" and it got banned from all tiers of competitive. You heard that right, BIDOOF WAS BANNED IN UBERS
Never judge a Bidoof by its doofiness. It will wreck your world.
Moody is literally busted. The fact that the nerf in G8 didn't put its power down tells u all.
@@lipika2841 It's overpowered, but there are no technical issues or bugs involved in its in-game execution, so it is not literally busted. That would be stuff like Hyper Beam (skipping the recharge turn if it gets a KO) and Leech Seed + Toxic back in Gen 1.
@@Compucles sure I was trying to specify just how strong it's, so I used the word "busted" even tho there're other better ways to describe it.
Bidoof didn't get banned, Moody did
"Budew being a little seed"
Yep definitely not a flower bud
RIP Porygon, my boy did no wrong.
Poygon died for our sins
Porygon is an underrated Pokemon and I love it so much especially its whole evolution line!
@@ForevertheElf*Pikachu's sins
@@ForevertheElfno Porygon died for Pikachu’s sin.
porygon took the blame so game freak/nintendo’s child, pikachu, could stay on top. we’re on to you, pikachu.
Lilligant has always been really good wtf it got own tempo petal dance quiver dance and was great in its debut generation and better than Whimsicott lol
There’s no way anyone could’ve predicted Lord Helix.
I wasn't expecting Lilligant erasure on this day. I love the original design!
When I was younger Lilligant was the first Pokémon I ever saw and it just immediately clicked with me. I didn’t have a good upbringing but this strange green flower princess made me feel better about things. It’s stuck with me my whole life as a sort of comfort character and starting a few years ago I started noticing how it was getting left behind compared to Whimsicott who was allegedly supposed to be its equal.
When I first saw the leaks of Hisuian Lilligant I genuinely teared up. It was like seeing myself grow older and stronger and become popular. This alongside the sudden influx of Lilligant appearances in general, Cafe Mix, the Journeys anime, being present to debut the new Terastalization ability as the Grass rep in the trailer, I love this little thing.
I think Sunflora could use something. Despite all the attention it got in S/V through the Artazon gym challenge (and Artazon in general), it could've gotten some kind of new form or anything to help it out.
Sunflora should have a grass/fire evolution
I would be totally down for a regional form or even a new final evolution for Sunflora
@@gabrielox5110 make it Grass/Steel and pull a Solgaleo.
@@gabrielox5110 It really needs one
Teddiursa seems to be shilled in merchandise in a lot of places very recently. I'm gonna guess that Ursaluna's introduction and its new form is part of that promotion.
Ursaluna is the best new bear Pokemon got 2 Forms one regular evolution and another a OP New Form in the DLC! I'm so happy it got so much love because it is one my new Pokemon I use it in a PLA playthrough.
I mean it makes sense. It’s literally based on a teddy bear
I think the Porygon family needs a comeback. Man did nothing wrong!
imo if they brought back Porygon in tge anime, I think it should get hit by a stray Thunderbolt, but have no effects other than the standard zap occur. Basically visually saying "Hey, things will be tame now"
the Ice type needs redemption ,by which i mean more resistances. #justiceforjustIce
Ice should resist water!
And there should be an ability that grants ice types defense when hit by water moves.
Could be an interesting ability for Ice to do contact damage when hit by fire type moves (melts onto the fire)
Ice should also resist Flying, and maybe even get its own "Scald" where it can cause Burn with frostbite...
Ursaring got 2 evolutions, while Liligant & Exeggcutor got regional variants, which we don't even know if we'll get the forms & the early stage in the same game.
H. Lilligant & A. Exeggcutor should have been evolutions, not forms.
Just to add insult to injury, short Lilligant fits perfectly between Petilil & tall Lilligant, & the Petilil line was originally designed to be a three-stage evolution line.
In a nutshell, Lilian wasn't redeemed.
Tropius definitely needs some love. Really cool design but never got any love
I agree I even drew an evolution of it that was op
It got love from me! But I don't guess that's enough...
Bidoof and Bibarrel even got banned from Smogon's Ubers tier once they received the Moody ability.
Surprised Gligar & Scizor didn't make the list as those 2 got so much better in Gen 4
I don't think Scizor would really make much sense for this tbh
Yeah, but like I said at the start, Scyther or Gligar were never terrible or despised Pokemon to begin with, so they didn't need redeeming quite like others...
primape should be in the list
See to me Primeape was never bad to begin with, but I guess not everyone liked it as much as me...
My issue with Hisuian Lilligant is that it kinda feels like a middle evolution more than a variation of Lilligant; also too much like Tsareena to feel unique; so much so that it would probably have been a cooler pokémon if it was designed some kind of japanese inspired Tsareena design.
I do agree with the rest of the list though
Hey, I'll take it as a middle evolution to something else! It can be the new Applin...
@@emperorcuboneguess you haven’t seen hydrapple yet lol
Second time this week I've seen someone say Hisuian Lilligant made it better. Lilligant was one of my best Pokemon in BW. Own Tempo with Petal Dance, Quiver Dance, and Giga Drain? She was amazing.
I reckon Stantler was the single biggest success story from Legends Arceus!
I’ve always liked deer so had a soft spot for it already but I feel like it was the most forgotten Johto Mon
Stantler would've made the list if they didn't deny Wyrdeer from being in Scarlet and Violet...
@@emperorcuboneyou can get it, you just have to get it to learn psyshield bash
@@emperorcubone Why should that be a prerequisite? You didn't say anything about it being redeemed for Gen 9.
Bidoof getting more underdog love than Dunsparce is kinda unfair. Lol.
8:15 "No other pokemon can double it's attack in this way" - Medicham (pure power and huge power are identical in everything but name)
regular liligant just needs a better movepool to be good, like power gem and earth power to hit types that it normally cant. would be great with quiver dance and these moves
It makes no logical sense for it to learn Power Gem.
I also think a list of Pokémon that can't be redeemed could be interesting. Like, how could one redeem something like Jynx and is there even a path (or desire) to do so?
Jynx is in no need of redemption.
Hmm, that is an intriguing idea! (Although honestly, unless this one pulls way up in the numbers it would be a poor investment...)
This was an interesting video. Also love lilligant !!
I still can't see regional forms as redeeming the original.
For example, I prefer the regular Liligant, so am I just SOL forever?
My respect for Azumarill increased significantly after I tried using one for the first time in Emerald, even with no fairy type yet it destroyed Flannerly
My plans to eventually catch a Carvannah to replace it were quickly scrapped
8:12 Medicham line gets Pure Power. Effectively the same thing.
I said as much before, but someone corrected me with them being somehow different, so I don't know...
@emperorcubone I wouldn't sweat it too much. I went to Bulbapedia and other sites before posting this comment to be sure enough. My conclusion is that they do the same thing. If you Skill Swap them, they have a different effect on the target. Since your videos aren't about competitive battling, I'd say the person who says they're different are a bit too far into the weeds.
Consider both their and my comments engagement for your channel.
You forgot that Gamefreak gave Bidoof the Hidden Ability Moody in Gen 5 that created chaos in Smogon Singles.😂
Dragon is my favorite type and druddigon is a let down so I hope they make an evolution that makes it far more appealing and cool
Back in Gen 1, it was Omastar that had the better movepool! It didn't learn any Rock type attacks anyway, while it did learn Special STAB Water Gun and Hydro Pump by level up, as well as Special Ice type moves and more Special Water type moves by TM/HM.
Meanwhile, Kabutops didn't get any Rock type moves either, so it only had Slash as a decent Physical move by level up and only other Normal type moves and a couple Fighting type moves (one of which didn't take advantage of Physical attack power, anyway) by TM/HM, so no usable STAB options unless you really wanted to go with Surf or Hydro Pump off its Base 70 Special stat. Perhaps it's one saving grace back then was learning Swords Dance by TM.
idk about the rest of the internet but i came around on bidoof because of explorers of sky. same with wigglytuff and chatot and spinda, and loudred--actually now that im thinking about it, that game really gave a lot of love to what i used to think of as forgettable normal types
Waiting for when Pokemon will make mythical pokemons more useful. 95% of them are just pokedex fill ups never thought of again.
Omastar was always a favourite, because i had an actual ammonite fossil as a kid. I chiseled it out of a mountain in france myself while on vacation. I always associated omanyte with that experience. Still a huge favourite!
I did a nuzzlocke at 22 and when I thought my tm slave bibarel was about to be taken out, I learned that water was not very effective towards him. I didn’t know he was water type for years and I thought I knew everything about Pokémon!
Now we just gotta wait for Pokemon games to redeem themselves
Ouch. Painful but true...
@@emperorcubone at least Arceus was good, I liked it
Hisuian lilligant gives me Tsereena vibes, which is one of my favorite pokemon to use in sun and moon and also a great grass type overall
Man I remember playing Gen 3 like 10 years ago and for the life of me I was trying to remember how to evolve my Roselia lol
Jynx
Jynx needs redemption so bad.
Yeah, I feel like they'll never touch it again though...
4:15 He said that like Lord Helix isnt a thing
8:12 _fainting Medicham noises_
Please tell me im not the only one who laughed at “lost in the DECKades”
10:38 Almost none of the Pokemon that have the word "mouse" in their category are actually based on mice.
I want to hear a Pokemon story called Whitdia and the three Ursas.
I always liked Bidoof. They're bushy, fluffy butts always reminded me of one of our dogs and it makes me smile.
Remember when Teddiursa was that useful of a Pokémon back in gen 6, for the purposes of effort value training, where it used Sweet Scent on the overworld to lure in the hordes, follow it up with moves like Bulldoze, Earthquake, or Rockslide to knock them out, then potentially activate the Pickup ability to pick up some useful items, including Rare Candies?
Also, speaking of gen 6, the other buff Azumarill got here other than going fairy was having the now famous Belly Drum Aqua Jet combo completely legit thanks to females gaining the ability to pass on their egg moves. Azumarill would go on to be a competitive staple since.
*E:* Oh, and the Bidoof family had moody as a hidden ability, which ultimately led to moody clause being a thing. Even Pokébilities (the OM that had all possible abilities on every Pokémon take effect at the same time) knew how powerful this family was and as such, made them one of their gods. Simple doubled the moody boosts, and unaware made them bypass opponents' boosts (regardless of whether or not they were themselves moody).
What if a future game shows us the Fossil mons without the Rock Type? As in a Pokemon Legends: Helix?
Peanut Butter the bidoof is iconic
Ive never seen budew with those red and blue parts before 😂😂
Yep! It's not really shown in-game but outside materials show it to make the connections more pronounced...
Also I wish Jynx got a redemption in the form of a new evo. Like people are still hung up on the whole "its racist" thing despite Pokemon going to great lengths to actually correct the issue, so much so that in the Gen 1 virtual console games they specifically changed all the black pixels on its sprite to purple to avoid issues.
8:13 *Medicham has entered the chat*
Piplup? Did you mean chimchar?
I'm a huge shuckle fan, only because of the youtube channel Dorkly
Guys, have you seen the model & new animations for Blastoise in SV? Those really redeem it.
Did Blastoise need to be redeemed, though?
@@emperorcubone like I know it's a Kanto starter thus over represented, but ever since Gen8, ppl have noticed & been complaining loudly that Blastoise should be shooting water from its cannons. & now in SV, it finally does. We need several other mons to have specific attack animations in order to give em life.
So a new regional form, two new evolutions (none of which technically redeem the original Pokémon themselves), two Internet memes, and one that is outclassed by its own evolution being an even better version of the redemption?!
This is not the kind of list I was expecting...
i liked this
Lilligant never needed redeeming and I cannot say the Arceus version was good beyond its boss fight.
Hot Take: Azurill's line should be considered a pikaclone
9:20 So the lesson here is bullying works?
Wait roselia, one of the most used spikers before it evolved.
as a kid growing up with pokemon red, i always picked Omanyte because i love it's design over the other however Omastar is a tragedy to me. Mycute snail turned into a b hole faced gross bug. I hate omastar as I like both evos in the kabuto line. It is such a shame X'o
Lord helix on arceus' level? Hah, arceus wishes
Why does everyone hate my silly little maracas cactus :(
😢
Sad Medicham noises
My friend and i used to call it "Bidoofus" lol.
I love Ursaluna
I feel like Zigzagoon and Audino could fit on this list
Why Audino? I know it had a mega but its not like it was one of the better ones or anything.
@@Rarest26 I feel like it'd be super forgettable if not for the Mega tho
@@Rarest26 also, the ONLY gen 5 mega if I recall correctly
FURRET WALK THEME
I find it funny you used Nosepass on the thumbnail, very cruel of you.
Hah, it had a valiant effort at reaching that level at least...
HAIL LORD HELIX ?
Using Liligant as the first example... no, that's just straight wrong.
i'd like to point out I picked chimchar
Physical attacker Fairy? Tinkaton?
Sure, about a decade AFTER Azumarill became a Fairy, they finally introduced another one...
@@emperorcubone What about Granbull and Mawile?
Why Granbull is a fairy type because it is pink that is bad.
Will im greatful are lady of the ridge is getting her rightful respect regularly lilligant is nothing to scoff at own tempo Patel dance
Also basteodon got body press
Roserade Forever ❤🌹
"dumb enough not to pick piplup"
Piplup being the only Sinnoh starter I never choose... Lmao
I mean, I'd never choose anything but Turtwig at all if not for sinnoh's lack of fire types so chimchar gets lucky there. But the Turtwig line ez my favorite. I don't mind piplup but I hate both it's evos
As long as you don't pick the overrated Chimchar you're good!
I think raichu should be here
Raichu. That's it.
It did get a cool Alolan variant.
Dunsparce
Praise Lord Helix
Does it count if the Old pokemon remains the same?
As long as it got redemption in some way, it doesn't matter if its in-game presence gets tweaked.
@@emperorcubone But is it really redemption for the original one if it technically still remains unchanged? It's really only introducing a new form or evolution while doing nothing for the original ones themselves except allowing Ursaring to use Eviolite.
@@Compuclesit's half redemption
I think Shuckle should get a evolution I mean Look at the stats for Duraludon evolution
Evolilite Shuckle is just too much to think about...
@@emperorcubone you haven’t played the indigo disk yet?
Hahahahaha 3:37 Barely gets any slower.
Porygon. just do anything with it Nintendo, we all know Pikachu was the real culprit.
I mean... they did give it two evolutions that are both independently good in battle, that's not nothing...
No Yanmega? Took a completely useless mon and made it a lot more viable.
I honestly have always like Roselia way more than Rosarade.
The design is just pretty ugly to me.
No bidoof is not good
I never said it was "good" just that people like it now, when it was mostly hated before...
@@emperorcubone lets get it back to that, lets stop liking it :D
You monster!😡
Having a different form is not helping the original
It kinda is, putting the line in the limelight again. Or for the first time.
For example Ursaring I've never given a single crap about but Ursaluna is cool.
For regionals you’re probably right, but new evos like Ursaluna or Roserade are buffs to the old mons. Those do count.
@@cookiesontoast9981 obviously evos help
But a new form does not
People forget in crystal that you can find a level two TeddiUrsa in the dark cave at a one percent chance. After throwing head butt on him, he dominates the game.
A 1% chance sounds less likely than the 2 shiny Pokemon I found in Crystal before Azalea town, so I'm not sure that makes Teddiursa all that more accessible...
@@emperorcubone Check your math. The shiny encounter rate in Gen II is 1 in 8,192 or about .01%, while the odds of finding two of them are obviously much worse.
Charizard
Ah yes, the most put upon Gen 1 creature for sure!

The biblically accurate bidoof is the best thing ever.
Content getting stale and has weird takes, I'm out
Would care to elaborate so that I might make better content in the future?
@emperorcubone What a fair response to a rude comment.
But if they don't respond, and if it's an opportunity to be constructive:
1. Sometimes the facts you present are incorrect _enough_ to disrupt your defense of a ranking. (Not talking about my "Pure Power" comment.) I'm sure most PokéTubers get some things wrong. But I think your language choice can make it stick out a bit more.
1a. It's a video on Pokémon. If you get a fact just objectively wrong, it's fine. We will point it out! But it's fine. I don't think anyone is gonna think you aren't an expert in Pokémon.
2. The Top 6 videos is a bit done. But at the same time, I think you should stick to it. It's just a structured way to talk about Pokémon. If there is another way you can do that, certainly add it to the mix.
3. ...maybe you're just humoring a bumhole/troll anyway, but...don't change? I consume TH-cam a *ton,* and a lot of Pokémon content. But I follow you for consistent, structured uploads on a series I really like. And you fit a niche less detailed than competitive stuff and very involved lore but more involved than hype and leak videos. It's (largely) evergreen content.
4. Call me an Emperial again, and I'll summon Expedia. No, not the Yu-Gi-Oh creature. The travel tech company in Seattle.
Those two do not like your Pokemon TH-cam videos.
i'd like to point out I picked chimchar
