- Plenty of Pokémon evolve, even long after their initial introduction, but sometimes there's a clear relative of a Pokémon that for whatever reason goes completely unnoticed by those who bare a remarkable resemblance, like maybe an Alomomola with Luvdisc! So let's look through and see if we can't connect some Pokémon together for being so alike, even if that wasn't their intention...

10:09 technically blipbug and dotter are based off of ladybird beetle larvae and pupae respectively, so it does still make sense. But a superhero ladybird becoming a psychic sci if supervillain also makes sense, so it could work either way.
You die a hero or you live long enought to be a villain.
But u can also say ledian look like a alien and next stage evolve to a UFO
Maybe if they made a split evolution for Ledyba:
1. Ledyba (Bug) --> Ledian (Bug/Fighting) --> ??? (Bug/Fighting)
2. Ledyba (Bug) --> Dottler [but coloured red or something instead of yellow] (Bug/Psychic) --> Orbeetle (Bug/Psychic)
That could be a good way of highlighting the whole superhero vs. supervillain thing imo.
Or you could just give Ledian an evolution that's Bug/Fighting and make it rivals with the Orbeetle line; that could work too.
I was gonna say that lol. I'm a Zoology nerd so I was confused when he said that bc Ladybug larvae look like that in real life. Many bug type Pokemon do that too, larvae -> pupae -> adult so idk why that's an issue here?
Whiscash , flabebe and Ledian really look like pre evolutions to said pokemon 😭😭😭

But I could see the line leaning more onto the superhero theme and becoming basically a Kamen Rider.

@@AZ-697 exactly. Psyduck's a Platypus not a Duck. connecting a Platypus to a Swan makes no sense.

It also doesn't help that in Pokémon Advanced during the Trainer's Choice segment of an episode, they incorrectly stated that Arbok evolves into Seviper.
Psyduck and Swanna are better separate.
First, Psyduck is not a "plain duck" by any means, it's actually heavily characterised: for example it has some traits that are more similar to platypus, namely the lack o wings in favour of "hands", a trait that carries on to Golduck having fins on all 4 instead of 2 fins and 2 wings like normal ducks.
Also the concept of Psyduck revolvers on the struggle to contain it's psychic powers causing him migraine (If there's a missed opportunity here, it is the Psyduck line not being psychic type).
Ducklett is actually the "plain duck" which evolves into a swan as a reference to the ugly duckling's tail.
Both the lines have finite concepts that manage to settle the two ducks apart (and also they're both solid concepts in my opinion, but this is more subjective), sure, one might be more forgettable than the other but that's not strange out of 1000+ Pokémon.
For the others I can mostly see the connection however, if there's two Pokémon based on similar things, I think they should rather settle apart from eachother in an effective way instead of being forcedly related.
I don't think this is a good way to "save" a forgotten 'mon, they would probably become even more forgettable or perhaps even actively hated by the fans for being recognised as "foreign bodies" into an established line (muck like Bellossom is often criticized for not being connected enough to the Oddish line, for example).
Agree with this about Psyduck and Swanna. I don't dislike either of them, but there are better ways to update them if GF felt it was necessary, like giving Golduck a regional evolution with the water/psychic type (and actually making it gold!). Swanna I'm less sure about, maybe just a really meta-relevant move or some kind of gimmick form/mega if those come back.

Pretty much all non-3rd stage pkmn that got a Mega should have gotten a normal evolution instead. Absol, Heracross, Kangaskhan, Mawile, Pinsir are in the same situation as Houndoom. Kangaskhan didn't even need to change its stats (just like Scyter share its BST with its evos), as Parental Bond would already boos it.
I have always thought that Karrablast looks like a pre-evo of both Heracross & Pinsir. It could keep Excavalier with the same evolution method. On that note, Wiscash could evolve if there's a Tatsugiri in the party.
I really like ideas that link older pkmn with those from Unova, but the case for Psyduck was kinda weak imo.

For Blipbug becoming a ladybug, it’s based on ladybug larva, which are somewhat caterpillar-like. It’s not a perfect 1-to-1 match but I see the connection.

It's been an assertion of mine for a while that Comfey is actually directly related to Klefki and the similarities it shares with Flabébé are the result of convergent evolution.

I would love to see Ledian get an evolution. It deserves it honestly.

I want a region like sinnob that a solid dex chunk is new babies and evos to make pokemon feel complete.
With dex sizes getting decent again, no excuse not to or to have so many new standlones. Take some legendaries spots as they need fewer
I still have hope that we could someday get a baby mon linking Tauros and Miltank. A single baby species with distinct male and female formes whose stats correspond to their evolutions.

The only person that thinks seviper is related to the ekans line is ash in trainer’s choice most snakes are poisonous so two of them isn’t surprising
Since the reveal, I've always figured Cramorant would have been better as a regional evolution for Wingull. If you invert the white and blue on it you're already there. If you give the line eye, it's perfect.
I said something like this in a video not long ago! Cramorant definitely seems related to the Wingull line...
It is also worth mentioning the possibility of Zangoose being an evolution of Gumshoos, to further go with the theme of its rivalry with Seviper. I also wish that Houndoom would get an evolution in the Kalos region, so the opportunity to be 666 I the Pokédex wouldn't be wasted on a freaking butterfly.
But at least the butterfly comes in all sorts of pretty colors!
Its weird because in the English dub, there was a error where the anime told us Arbok does evolve to Seviper.

I loved wishcash growing up. Used it in my 2nd ever ruby playthrough as a kid. Swampert, quagsire and gastrodon all overshadowed it over the years.

Well, I disagree that we shouldn't make NEW Pokemon, but I don't think anyone would complain if we had 3-12 relatives of past Pokemon crop up in any new regions, especially the ones that need it, (like Sunflora!)
I mean if we going to get more crappy Pokemon like flamingo just to make claim they release 1k pkm. Rather get alternative skin for pkm with great designs and playstyle

Mega Houndoom as an evo is the first thing i agree with. Reminds me of Marowack
On Houndoom; perhaps this is a product of me being 7 when gen 2 came out but I always intrinsically linked Houndour and Growlithe in almost every way. My thought was that they lived in the same grass, with Growlithe at day and Houndour at night (I wasn’t allowed to play at night so couldn’t test it)
I always thought it’d be cool to have them be a kind of Lycanroc situation or else a Pancham situation, where Houndour is just a Growlithe who grew up dark. Then Houndoom/Arcanine are them fully realising their paths.
If Seviper would be from Ekans, then perhaps Zangoose could be from Yungoos.
That could be funny! Yungoos isn't from Alola after all, so maybe it could be from where Zangoose is?
And also back then during the advanced and battle frontier series during oke of the trainers choices they literally said that arbok evolve into serviper and question is that image with that woman and the golduck from the new horizon anime the one at the 3:03 minute mark in the video?

My Secret Pokémon relatives is klawf and Crustle they’re both rock type Crabs to I know one of them is a hermit crab but they’re both crabs just add the bug typing to klawf
As much I like the connection, I feel it takes away from crustle theme.
Maybe if klawf is redesign to make his upper shell look like a landmass or mountain

Hear me out: Instead of tying Orbeetle and Ledian together, we get a fighting/bug (or fighting/flying) type evolution as a kind of Kleavor equivalent whenever Legends Johto comes out

@@elemomnialpha Based on the pattern, yeah, you're right, although I think it's weird that no Sinnoh mons got a Hisuian form. It actually makes more sense: The creatures who live there in present day ARE the ones who adapted from their historical counterparts who wouldn't have survived otherwise.
Regardless, I think I said Legends Johto because at the time I just assumed we'd get that before Legends Unova, although at this point I really don't know.
There were new evolutions in Hoenn. I can think of some pre-evolutions at least; that counts.
I specifically spoke to the actual evolutions, there were in fact some babies but nothing new to take other Pokemon forward like in Sinnoh, Paldea, etc...
Not gonna lie, when you mentioned Swanna, I thought you were going to suggest a branched Wingull evolution.
for Ledyba, hear me out. They Make Orbeetle an Evo of Ledyba, and Gmax and evo from there. Ledian gets a Bug/Fighting third stage.
Hot take, Serviper and Zangoose should have a trade with each other evolution shelmet style.

A larger mongoose with a blade arm would be the obvious evolution for Zangoose. But I'm not quite sure what Seviper would turn into. Maybe it grows longer, gains small arms with long claws, and becomes a sort of lindworm-like creature?

I completely agree with the Mega Houndoom thing, but the Ledian to Orbeetle arguement makes no sense beyond "ladybug becomes bigger ladybug". There is no thematic basis to it at all. How would Ledian have anything to do with psychic power when Orbeetle is all about that? Also, Blipbug does make sense as the first stage, but thematically instead of physically. It's a nerdy kid that becomes a researcher that becomes a mad scientist.

What baffles me is that a 110 stat is wasted on Ledian. It has a pathetic 35 attack stat and its only decent stat beyond SpD is an 85 speed. Its ability is also wasted given how weak it is.
I would swap its Attack and SpD stats to at least try to make it a somewhat fast glass-cannon. I mean, with only 55 HP it doesn't matter if its defenses are 35 or 110, it will go down in one hit.
Don't forget the Iron Fist ability that makes it an even bigger insult!
Sir Psyduck is a platypus. It only got the duck in its name because of its duck-like bill.
I think it would make more sense to say that the only Platypus thing about the duck is its bill. Psyduck is a classic rubber duck; it doesn't even have a beaver tail, so how is it a platypus?
@@emperorcubone nor does it have a duck tail nor wings. Overall the proportion is more similar to a platypus. Also I was half-wrong as well. The Psyduck line also draw influence from the Kappa, a Japanese yokai.
Despite its name, I don't think psyduck is actually a duck. It's wide bill and little hands make it look much more like a duck-billed platypus to me. Psyduck's bill is much more duck like but it still has hands and not wings.
All those non-duck things come from being based on a rubber duck toy, no a platypus. Otherwise it'd have a beaver tail as well...
@@emperorcubone Their tails don't really look like duck tails either. Ducks have really small tails composed of just a few feathers. You can't even see them unless their flying really. And with golduck's rather long tail it's clear their tails are a part of their body, like a mammal or a reptile. Probably just gen 1 being gen 1, so I don't think it can be used for argue for either side.

Not sure u agree with ladian sure they’re both ladybirds but one has a physical design focus (even if the stats dispute it) and the other is obviously psychic focused
I do want ledian to evolve but it should fit the theme more and have them go from side kick to main hero, go full super sentai and add the fighting type
Also since it’s already the 5 star Pokémon a fun little design space could be basing them off the golf ninja steel ranger and give them a cowboy motif

I don't know about ALL; I think an owl is different enough for Hoothoot, and Rookidee being Pure Flying warrants its own spot, but maybe the rest...
To be fair about seviper, snakes are basically the first animals that come to mind when one thinks of venom, and there are definitely more than one species of venomous snake, so it doesn't seem too farfetched to have more than one line of venomous snake pokémon. Though I guess its sharing a colour scheme with ekans doesn't help making it comparable to that line, not to mention its being given to Jessie, which may or may not have been misinterpreted by some 4kids intern as her arbok evolving, hence that mistaken Trainer's Choice segment.
I find swanna a bit hard to connect to psyduck due to their not sharing much features apart from resembling waterfowl. Plus, while yes there were duck pokémon before ducklett, there weren't duck pokémon that could fly and swim like an actual duck, which is something that remains unique to ducklett, so I prefer it and swanna being their own line.
Dondozo... actually just might have worked as an evolved form of whiscash. And it might have been neat to bring back the friend-induced evolution that mantyke had, but this time making it a cross-regional evolution. I don't mind its being a one-off, though, because, again, if there can be more than one species of actual catfish, there can be more than one species of catfish pokémon.
As for ledian, as pointed out before, there's more than one species of ladybird, and the five-spot and seven-spot ladybirds are different species. Not to mention, it's kind of neat how orbeetle's weakness to both bug and flying puts it at a major type disadvantage to ledian, which reflects real-life Japanese ladybirds being a serious problem for English ladybirds, which are being outcompeted by them. On the other hand, I'd be perfectly glad if blipbug didn't evolve into a ladybird, and the first bug/psychic pokémon could be based on a completely unused sort of insect, as I kind of found making it another ladybird was a bit of a weak debut for a new type combination.
What's with these ladybirds? They're called *ladyBUGS.* I don't see any Miraculous of the Ladybird to pair up with the Miraculous of the Black Cat, do you?

Ladybird is short for "ladybird beetle", which is more common outside the U. S. Ladybug is more of a U. S. term.
Blipbug is based on ladybug larvae.
i would like to see a branching evolution of cacnea into cacturne or maractus
I could buy that; although Maractus might need a secondary typing to justify why you would pick it over the Dark type Cacturne...

I really really dislike the psyducj evolving into Swana idea. Im not even sure why i dislike the idea. But i like Swana and i like that its has its own identity. Making it a psyduck evo takes that away in my opinion.

If they actually went back and gave Pokémon’s that had Mega’s or Gigantimax forms an evolution, I’d be so happy. They have done it for both Applin and Durladon by giving them new evolutions, so why not do the same for future games. Even having ancient evolutions that were once lost like in Legends Arceus being apparent (while some are not obtainable in Scarlet/Violet like Wyrdeer, Ursaluna, and Kleavor). GameFreak has the potential to change the script and give some of these Pokemon new evolutions or pre-evolutions. May even say some of the Pokemon we had in the past were actually convergent of existing Pokemon before it became a thing. Like Buffulant and Alolamola. It would make up for all the Gen 5 Pokemon being carbon based copies of other Pokemon. (Still pining for pre-evolutions that would link up some Pokemon) Heck for Gen 6 I thought Treevorant was an evolution of Sudowoodo because we haven’t had any other tree like Pokemon aside from Snover and I guess Eggexcutor. Was a bit disappointed to see it wasn’t but how cool would it be if it was?
gen 3 was the original gen 1 and and 2 remake design wise. pretty much every pokemon in this generation is a remake or a gen 1/2 pokemon and seviper is just that. its a remake of arbock which is why it dosent need to be part of a branch evolution. gen v was the second attemp of remaking pokemons. besides. swansa and golduck are based of different animals. golducks is obviously and duck while swana is a swan.
Wish Mawile and sableye would've kept their Megas as proper evolutions.

Gonna be slightly honest, a lot of this list kind of just feels like there could only really be one type of animal and one type of Pokémon, which just sounds very limiting like for example, the ladybug Pokémon being related even though they both do completely different things like one is more punchy oriented, and the other is a lot more focus on its brain to the point where transform into a UFO I don’t know it’s a bit weird

I think Raichu should evolve from Dedenne instead of Pikachu. Raichu's appearance shares so many similarities to Dedenne that it could work as an evolution.

I have no clue how this lie has become so popular, but Psyduck is absolutely based on a classic rubber duck that kids would play with in the bath. That's where any discrepancies come from like the body shape or "hands," I just really want to know where this idea came from all of a sudden...

I think most of these Pokémon need buffs instead of evolutions. Ledian could work with Huge Power just like Azumarill or Iron Fist with a decent attack buff. Houndoom I also feel the same since I don’t know why it has the Early Bird ability. Competitive of Berserk would be a much better fit.
The Huge Power Ability is meant for rabbit-based Pokémon.

Man, a good amount of the examples here either miss the entire idea GF had with the evolutionary line, sounds more fitting in Digimon than in Pokemon or both.
Personally if Whiscash got an evolution I want it to not even be a catfish at all, why should it still be one? Barboach isn't a catfish. I feel it would be much better for them to stay consistent with their inconsistencies.
Plus there's a whole lot of smaller, more subtle differences between Whiscash and Dondozo that make it abundantly obvious it just doesn't belong. If Dondozo is lacking that signature blue fin with the three black dots then why bother?
Honestly, I don't think Tauros should evolve into Bouffalant. I mean, Tauros is already the better one in battle

I thought this was going to be about Pokemon taxonomy, instead I got mad ramblings about how Pokemon with unrelated origins and basic resemblances should evolve from one another...
Still, interesting ideas, I thought the Megas made the most sense, and all the other Pokemon here I'd rather get brand new evolutions instead of newer ideas being forced to work for older Pokemon they weren't designed to work with.
I don't hate this idea, I just think there's better ways to pull things off than what is presented here to give forgotten Pokemon attention, and Gamefreak has been doing it since the second generation. I also think just mentioning Pokemon are related in dex entries is a good way to make new related Pokemon too... I'd just like it if a Scorpion wasn't said to be related to a Millipede.

First of all, have you SEEN Remoraid? Pokemon can evolve into whatever they want... But secondly, it's really Not a Platypus, it's just a classic rubber duck.
