    Obviously Mecum doesn't employ any bike experts to authenticate potential inventory. That's called "Misrepresentation of sale". If you aren't given appropriate time to do your own due diligence with an expert, pass on the sale.

    • @kurtfoulke5130
      @kurtfoulke5130 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +32

      That's called Buyer Beware.
      If you are foolish enough to bid 13 grand on something that you know nothing about, you can't blame the auction.

    • @bernardowens1648
      @bernardowens1648 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +36

      @kurtfoulke5130 I can blame the auction because I spent 22 years working at one of the world's largest auto auction companies. That sort Bait and Switch isn't good business. The company I worked for didn't allow that sort of thing to happen. If a sale was made and it was proven the vehicle sold was "Misrepresented" at the time of sale the transaction would have been voided and proceeds returned to the buyer. That's just good business. You don't allow the good name of the company to be brought down over a few thousand dollars.

    I just want to let you know that I recently subscribed and have watched all your videos. I enjoy your content and as a new rider I have learned a lot from watching and picked up some good habits that may have saved my life. I was in an accident earlier today and came out with minor injuries thanks to some of the habits I have picked up from watching your videos. I see you put on a jacket and a helmet everytime you go out on the road and that has rubbed off on me so I started doing it as well. Also your faith in god has been a great inspiration that caused me to start praying and being thankful again more than I have been. Unfortunately my bike was totaled and it was a hit and run. A guy in a white work van ran a stop sign and I tried to avoid him but there wasn’t enough time to react. I hit his rear quarter panel at around 50mph and was thrown and rolled down the state route I was on. He never slowed down on checked to see if I was ok or even alive for that matter. The sheriff said the probably won’t be able to find him. So I ended up injured and without a bike. Gods hand must’ve been over me and kept me safe enough to limp away. Keep doing what you are doing it’s informational and inspiring to newer riders.

    Looking over my original Harley-Davidson factory literature collection, I see no "29JX" marked motor mentioned anywhere -- only 29J, JL, JD, JDH, JDF and JDL marked motors. Either the number is spurious (fake) or it is indeed uncommon and rare.

    Looks like you bought a prop for a theme restaurant. Something you put on a shelf for display. There's restaurants that pay more for that prop than motorcyclists do.

    It bothers me about how Sean is much more interested in what a bike is worth in monetary terms than about the bike itself. Matt seems to love the bikes more than just how much money they are worth.

      thats because he was not the one who paid for it. you should always be concerned with what its worth when your the one flipping the bill. trust me even matt tries to not pay more than the value of the bike

    My guess is that it did work at one time, became unreliable after countless repairs, and then became a parts donor for the next bike, hence the oddball repairs and missing parts. That is a common theme you find, my friends.

    There is no way that buying an old bike like this is a "BAD" idea.... but some of them are not super profitable. WITH THAT SAID THOUGH, there's always a market to some degree for at least the parts, so even if you get "burned", its not like buying a 2024 busa at 1k under sticker because the guy's "moving" and the motor siezes on the way home and its not covered under warranty because the guy violated the warranty on it by doing something stupid.

    Modern motorcycles are too heavy. My 125 cc scooter weighs 225 pounds. The new Honda XR150L weighs 282 pounds. That 1000 cc HD that was bounced weighs about the same. Does all of the extra weight on modern motorcycles make them last longer?
    I had four different engine kits for a bicycle. The wheels were too weak. The mounts for the rear rack engines were too weak. The engines or transmissions always needed work. The bicycle probably rolled for 8000 miles at a cost of $2000. I probably could have bought a motor scooter for that much money and had almost zero problems with it.

    I rode a ~1990 hardly springer, solid rear wheel and belt drive, 4 fingers on the front brake did almost nothing, touch the rear and locks up. Never again will I be seen on a Hardly, will stick to my Yam's and Honda's, real quick, nimble, lean angle galore, 190mph and reliable, couldn't want more than that, and low cost.
