When I engage with people on this subject it is because I have a goal, a motive, that is exactly right, and that is to ensure that my children, and their families who will be here a long time after I am gone, can hold their head up and be proud to call themselves a New Zealander or Aotearoan. This can 'not' be achieved when one set of people believe they are the only 'true' people of this land and should get special treatment and acknowledgement.

No such thing as an Aotearoan, sorry.

He forgot the 1860 kohimarama conference 🤔🤔
All the chiefs in attendance confirmed their allegiance. Why not mention this Moon

I agree. The minutes of those meetings make it very clear that the chiefs had ceded sovereignty and would intervene with disruptive tribes. They sought government protection. Also thd musket wars between tribes devastated the Maori population and the settlers soon outnumbered Maori.

I am a bit dissappointed in Moon where he quotes Article 1 then goes on to say that it doesn't mean what is says, then backs up this position by quoting other sources such as letters from the Home Office etc. From my point of view this is beyond bizarre. What is in a contract is what has been agreed to and parties acknowledge this by signing it. To say that article 1 doesn't mean what is says causes my high regard for Moon to be significantly diminished.

If the victim had been a Māori, would the British have left Māori alone to kill the teenager? I doubt it

Did maori have a peaceful discussion with other human beings that lived in NEW ZEALAND prior to them, or did they just take? Did one maori tribe have a peaceful discussion with other tribes when they wanted their resources. The reality of human development is that it does not stop in time, i.e. the development of the wheel, outlawing eating other humans, slavery and use of cars. This country is now in the 21st century, with many differing peoples, to elevate one person above another is racism. We are only guessing what the crown was thinking in 1840, nobody alive today can say 100%, as they were not there. Therefore, we as a nation can forever look backwards, OR towards the 22nd century
