I’m a volunteer docent at a similar zoo and want to say this. If you see something that shouldn’t be in an animal’s enclosure, you need to let the keepers know. You can also contact security who can relay it to the keepers as well. Don’t be afraid to speak up because it may end up saving the animal’s life.

I dont feel like walking across a zoo just to save an animal that will die in a year anyway.

@@bibarel4665 Hate to break it to you but under human care seal and sea lions who live in accredited facilities like the Georgia Aquarium and the Bronx zoo can live into their 20s and even early 30s. That’s specifically because of the constant husbandry training, relationships with their keepers and continued vet care so no they wouldn’t die within a year. This isn’t the 50s or 60s anymore animal care in zoos(especially AZA accredited ones)is worlds away from what it used to be that’s because there’s a lot more information out there to better help vets/animal care specialists provide the very best environment possible for the animals they are with 24/7 365. Sometimes though things like this happens and it’s easily fixable out in the wild it would’ve easily turned into an infection so it’s fortunate the sweet girl was ok.

It’s also important to speak up and inform the keepers as soon as possible if you see an object that shouldn’t be in there.

This is off habitat vet care space for animals, it is mean to be a simple but functional and easy to maintain space to allow recovering animals to get better in a clean space.
What you said is like saying a children recovery wing at a hospital is like a prison because it’s focused on maintaining a easy to clean sterile environment and has measures to keep those children safe and in place.
