I did too, what I mean is I didn't see the fireship coming in but saw all those units disappear and thought he deleted them lol.
Epic commentary. This game would have dragged if not for Drongo's charisma.

No. This video is 1 hour 32 minutes long and Drongo spoke every. single. second. for 1 hour and 32 minutes… He needs to let the game do some of the work for him

Great apart from somehow he missed the epic moment that chagned the game, demo boat taking out 4 bombards + ton of spears at 35:50

@@calebmaple4788 Its bugged with the upgrade is does max damage if you get the distance correct. (Max distance iirc)
The amount of missing technologies in this game is just a perfect example of why you should every now and again check to see if you are tunnel visioning too hard. Take a step back for 10 seconds, check your villagers, their amount, resources, production buildings, weaknesses in your base and the enemy base, re-evaluate your approach and most importantly, check your techs!!!
So much going on everywhere though, don't think they could blink
Absolutely baffled that we never saw the Abbasid player build a single camel. One camel with camel support would massively drop the damage that GUA's horsemen would have done (+1 melee armor to infantry, -20% damage on the cavalry). Would have been game-changing in a lot of those fights.
I said this out loud to myself at least a dozen times. Also, research the damn oil!!! Lol

I mean just the fact that he didn't research the spear-range upgrade against literally a mass of horses is suspect.... owO that must be some pressure to forget all these, like GUA's super late blacksmith ups.
Yes. He keep building spears, whe could have won with camels/knights and maa, and GUA forced to spendd gold on crossbows.
All those raids would have been stopped by walls, spears without upgrades, 5 lost keeps due to no burning boil. Messy
"textbook 56 minute town center" glorious moments like this made it interesting. Congrats to both magic and GUA! Well fought regardless of the missed. People forget that being on this level forces you to be 120% all the time
I was surprised magic never tried to get camels, since they have a big advantage against cav and are good support
yeah not to mention he didnt tech up Phalanx from house of wisdom. Which increases spearman rage by 100 percent.
İts a stupidly over powered upgrade that cost so little money, yet he didnt do it. This game was full of mistakes but
it was also very heavy on micro. Sometimes players fighting at 3 fronts while managing their economy. Great play by both parties.
IamMagic was all over GUA's base,.... I blinked and GUA is raiding the trading route.
With every blink the tide changes. Epic match!! So intense.

I can't believe I just watched a one and half hour of this gameplay and never forwarded or anything. Your casts are beautiful and they are better also due to knowledge you have of the game.
I am AOM player really wanting to play AOE4 but since when I started watching these casts, I am really just watching this rather than playing.

Magic probably thought that he has controlled three islands so he underestimated his opponent greatly. I counted at least 15 bombards were destroyed due to poor positioning. He didn't bother to aim the catapult at villagers repairing the keep. Besides, since the right bridge was so heavily defended, why didn't he try assaulting from the left bridge, that was where GUA's economy from.
Lastly, if i was in Magic position, i would tech-switch into Knights (with few Camels mixed in) and made a surprise attack so GUA couldn't react with spears. Knights are so good late game because they can tank keep shots, archer shots and most importantly they are tanky enough to chase and destroy the artilleries completely before any repairs.
Edit: Also, is Wonder victory allowed? If yes, this game wouldn't even last 60 minutes.
Both players just trumping each other. I have no phalanx. So what... I have no blacksmith. I am massing Spears. Ok... I will mass horsemen.

The issue for magic on that right bridge, was not using his cannon to just take out the stone wall center. Instead he kept trying to funnel fire through the broken right side of the wall, which made him vulnerable to Calvarin counterattack. With just a little patience, his cannon could have ripped the stone wall apart, and he would have been much freerer to attack without exposing himself.
And of course, make more than 10 keeps with no boiling oil....oi!!!

Drongo, I would love for you to do one of these commentary’s on one of your own gameplays and explain what and why you’re doing certain things. I’m new to AOE and trying to understand best moves/tactics to play against my friends.

I love games like this, i think this is the way the game should be, and not 20-25 rushy games, the struggle makes its so freaking good

Insane micro and game sense from both side but they missed so many thing both of them it's crazy, upgrades wise it was sad af and honestly even walling wise it made absolutely no sense. It was painfull to watch but in a good way. What a convoluted match.

GIVEYOUANXIETY really gives me anxiety. He hadn't even researched that church + resource upgrade, it would have paid itself back in MOMENTS! And the demo ship upgrade would have been gold, too. (Edit: Actually, he got the tithe bonds at 1:20:00. This is such a ridonkolus game...Constant total aggression for an hour and a half. The players must have been exhausted.

I can't believe the tenacity of both these players in this game. It's absolutely an insane back and forth. GUA, WELL DONE MATE. That's quite the defensive capability. Would have been insane to see blue put down the boiling oil.
The way those Culverin blow siege engines to smithereens is ridiculously satisfying xD

The amount of attacks magic completely blundered is sad. He kept putting his spearmen behind his bombards and then losing them all. Also he didnt use enough mangonels. A group of mangonels could have done insane damage to GUAs midgame horseman blob. Also no walls.
Not to mention missing Camels for the bonuses to other units and the being the best anti-cav unit in the game....
@@priceless3020 I actually can appreciate the lack of Camels because of their cost and how fast such a large mass of horseman can take them out, at least in the open field. Now on those bridges, yes even one camel could have changed battles.
I’m at an hour 15 in, and I’m gonna guess that GUA wraps this up. Magic’s late-game leaves something to be desired.
@@lucaxtshotting2378 yeah, and he basically kept trying to force a single strategy despite it not working. He clearly had time to change it up and try something different.
It was roughly this time when I had it in my mind that GUA was the clear victor. Magic did realy well up to about 40-45m mark but as soon as they had that first cease fire it all started to go downhill. GUA started making really good choices while Magic just kept what he already had. Unfortunate too, as many pointed out, it could of gone far better for Magic had he used his civ powers more effectively but I think he treated this a lot more like AoE3 where civ powers arent as unique as they seem to be in 4.
If only he knew how to play his civ he was in a very good position, had good map control. This is kinda frustrating >.

This game could have ended up a loooot earlier if iammagic made the castle upgrades since the beginning, researched the spear man upgrade, made some camels, made some walls on his island and used the trade spot on the east island. He just gave away so much time for the other player to get all his stuff.

Oh jeeze, full map control for Iammagic, zero use of relics and sacred sites until way late into the game. Painful. That could have totally changed the pace.
im just sitting here wondering why Magic didn't end the game as soon as he had control of all 3 sacred sites and had Giveuanxiety locked on 1 island..
@@keeganmoonshine7183 well, Confluence usually has 4 sacred sites, as we saw in this match here. Tough to hold all 4. If you can manage to hold all 4 on this map, you usually have already won by that point! Lol

@@hybralisk the sacred sites victory doesn’t make much sense, there just aren’t that many incentives to fight for them other than the gold on most maps. I would much rather prefer the victory points system in relic’s other games (company of heroes, dawn of the war). Holding the sites in the neutral ground actually has real strategic value.
@@fanzhang5568 ok, so, passive gold generation that doesn't rely on unit supply being used is super strong. If MAGIC had the 3 Sacred Sites and even 3 or so relics from when he first gained map control, that could have been thousands and thousands of gold even if he lost the Sites later. It's a tiny investment of time and effort that can fuel critical banking for important units/upgrades/buildings in the late game. Taking something like the Relics will also deny one's opponent such an option. It more than pays for itself cost wise in after only a few minutes.
I honestly think that controlling the Sacred sites and gathering as many Relics as possible here could have given IAMMAGIC a win. Well, that and maybe not funneling his units into a brutal killzone when there were other avenues of attack over and over.
My goodness MY very stabilized and defensive self would've put up stone walls AGES ago after I settled down a keep or 3 behind the bridges. magic had this in the bag but he let it slip across his NOT SO BOILING OIL fingers!
Props to give you anxiety for not surrendering and fighting like a rabid dog the entire match HAHAH French amirite!?
This is definitely one of those you look back on in great memory or suffering detail depending on which side you are on.

I think the gameplay videos you post are great, but what I really miss are the more learning based videos with civilization guides, build orders, hotkey setup, game options, etc. Would it be possible to have a mix?

The demo ships versus land units needs to be fixed.
From a spectator standpoint though, it is insanely exciting. Demo ships are not hard to take out with a few springalds or even good ranged focus....its just one of those areas players are getting used to. Also you will likely see transport ships more commonly to avoid bridges if demos are a real threat. No need to nerf it just yet.

If only magic had a safe traderoute with like 3 keeps and an army flooding around for like 30 minutes. Unfortunately he only had the island that was not under his control to trade.

Watching a game go this long with GUA not getting most of the upgrades really did give me anxiety. The +35% hp for cavalry would have been so huge. Enlistment Incentives for Keeps with that extra -10% cost for Archery Ranges and Stables too... at least Blacksmith upgrades started around 1 hour in. xD
I have trouble seeing how GUA stood up against the massive resource disadvantage with Magic controlling three quarters of the map for most of the game.
@ 58:00 I thought GUA was done for that was very impressive match.
