    • @lucaiervasi8515

      @@NamishIslands actually it didn't even have the PRV block, just the measurements. the regulations stipulated that the engines used for the DTM had to come from the series. but what should have been used from the series engine? if the engine was a 4 or 6 cylinder in line the same distance between the cylinders had to be respected, while if it was a V6 engine the distance between the cylinders and the same angle between the banks had to be respected. essentially the engines had nothing of the standard ones, but only respected these 2 parameters. When Alfa Romeo entered the world championship in 1993, it was equipped with a 2.5-liter 60-degree V6, derived from the Busso V6 engine. this engine had a very high rotation speed, which could reach peaks of 12,000 rpm, while the Mercedes engine stopped at 9,500 rpm. this allowed the Alfa v6 to develop 50hp (420hp - latest evolution 450hp) more than the second most powerful engine on the grid. obviously the Germans did not stand by and began to develop engines that could compete with the Italian V6s. for the 1996 championship Alfa decided to develop a new engine. engineers discovered that a 90-degree v configuration would open up a number of advantages in both power and size. the problem was that Alfa Romeo had never produced production V6 engines with a 90 degree angle, but had produced 90 degree V8 engines, so it was decided to use the Montreal V8, but this had too small a distance between the cylinders and it was not suitable for future developments. checking the documents it was discovered that for a few years Alfa Romeo owned the Lancia and the Lancia Thema model was equipped with the 90 degree PRV V6. therefore, in its history, Alfa Romeo had also produced Lancia cars and this allowed it to use the measurements of the PRV engine. consequently for the 96 season 2 new engines were approved, one derived from the V8 Montreal and the other derived from the V6 PRV, but only the second was used in the race. the new engine developed a power of 500hp, but arrived on the cars after the season had already begun.

      Tony Valdez Well in effect we do, because of the amount how much it truly is multiple languages combined.
      I think the problem for the British when it comes to learning other European languages, is that post world war 2, most of Europe picked up English, and they’ve continued to do so due to the influence of tv and the internet.
      It’s quite frustrating trying to use any phrases beyond basic courtesies abroad when your English accents so obvious, as people either switch straight to English to make things easier for you, or go and grab the nearest relative or colleague who speaks English fluently to interpret for you.

Nicola Larini and Alessandro Nannini drove all the others into the ground and the benz armada (Ellen Lohr, Klaus Ludwig, Roland Asch...) had nothing against them, even when the alfas had to carry a huge weight penalty. And the german speaker Rainer Braun was very very biased and always talked the benz up....but the alfas won...almost every race. It was a blast!!!

    It does amaze me. In the 80s and 90s the BTCC and the DTM had a huge array of manufacturers taking part. The racing was close, fast and exhilarating. Now...Its a procession made by 2 or 3 manufacturers tops. I know money is the issue but its relative. These DTM cars would not have been cheap to develop and make even in the early 90s. Its so sad that these pinnacles of motorsport have declined so much.

      to tell the truth the German DTM regulations were very flexible let's say. we are talking about a strictly German championship, made and run only by Germans, with all the regulations written by the Germans in German. the DTM cars therefore respected a regulation that made them more advanced than the touring championship cars. as for touring cars, also in the DTM by regulation a mass-produced car had to be used to participate in the championship, but unlike the touring cars, in the TDM of the production car only the appearance and measurements of the car body had to be used. for the engine it was necessary to use one of those produced in series, but the regulation required the manufacturers to only respect the dimensions of the series engine and the maximum displacement which should not go beyond 2.5 litres. therefore, if the engine was a 4 or 6 cylinder in line, the distance between the cylinders of the standard engine had to be respected, while if the engine was a V6, the distance between the cylinders and the same inclination of the v had to be respected of the series engine. the result was that of the series engine, there was nothing under the hood of those cars. However, until the early 90s, the cars had a chassis and suspensions which, although heavily modified, resembled those of the cars taken from the series, but in the 90s, the undisputed dominance of Mercedes led to the withdrawal from this competition of Audi and BMW, leaving only 2 manufacturers left, Mercedes and Opel. to increase the spectacle and attract new spectators, it was decided to look for other manufacturers outside the German borders, but no other manufacturer wanted to go and get beaten by the Germans in a championship where the regulations were written and put into practice by the Germans themselves. so it didn't work. a manufacturer with a very high record of touring victories was needed to give new life to the championship. therefore Mercedes decided to officially invite Alfa Romeo to participate in the championship. Until that time, Alfa Romeo had won 13 world tourism championships and was the most successful car manufacturer in this discipline, therefore it had an important coat of arms and its presence could give new life to the championship, but in the early 90s Alfa was in the chaos, a few years ago it had been absorbed by the Fiat group after the negotiations with Ford fell through and imagine if Fiat, which as we all know has the short arm, would ever have allocated funds to allow one of its brands to participate in a championship so expensive. but to everyone's amazement, Fiat allowed Alfa to participate in the championship, but with clear and precise limits: if you participate you must win, if you don't win, you will be immediately withdrawn from the championship. win now? in a German championship held at the home of the Germans?? Imagine the pressure that Fiat had put on the Alfa Romeo racing team. but Fiat did not skimp and allocated the necessary funds to enable Alfa to present itself at its maximum potential and in 1993, Alfa fielded its car for the DTM championship, the 155 2.5 V6 Ti. but that wasn't a racing car, it was a real warship. while the others had engines that reached 9500 rpm, the Alfa engine reached peaks of 12000 rpm, this allowed it to deliver 50hp more than the second most powerful engine on the grid, furthermore it had a modular 4x4 traction system that allowed to move the setup from 70-30, 60-40, 50-50, 50-60 etc. based on the characteristics of the track. the Germans were taken aback and were unable to respond in any way and Alfa Romeo dominated the 1993 championship, winning the championship on its debut. this ignited a rivalry between Italians and Germans which in the following years led to a violent development of the cars, so violent that the last developed examples had the same costs as an F1 car and in fact had become F1 cars with covered wheels . essentially what remained was a carbon fiber bodywork that faithfully reproduced the standard one, but this covered a racing prototype that no longer had anything to do with the car it represented.

    • @lucaiervasi8515
      @lucaiervasi8515 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      in this video we see the latest evolution of the 155 project from 1996. the chassis had transformed into a sort of mixed monocoque with a carbon base and welded tubes, the suspensions had become active push road type, the aerodynamics themselves were a key point and the engine also served as a load-bearing element in the style of f1 etc. cars. in essence, the development led to the birth of real, very expensive track monsters in just 3 years. it is estimated that the cost was the same as a formula 1 car. this combined with other factors, led to the collapse of the championship, with its definitive closure in 1996. but look at the work of art that emerged from it, it seems to dance on the tracks, its mechanical grip and something extraordinary. th-cam.com/video/LNnam9IoSsQ/w-d-xo.html

Would run against the 240 mph GTP coupes....could hold 2nd place for near a whole lap but just didn't have the top end to keep it on the long back straight & would get passed at straight's end by the 3rd, 4th & 5th place cars, putting me back to 5th, but often managed to get 3rd back on the last set of corners before the finish line. The "virtual" Alfa 155 was an absolutely faultless handler, hard charge the corners & just throw the car sideways entering, steering totally counter locked, balancing with throttle. Through esses & switchbacks with the ease of flicking a wrist. Never spent much time on the brakes.

    That was the old good time where Italy stand in front of Germany building a race Evil to circle German cars like a shark and smash them, the 1996 Evolution version is even sicker, instead of 60°motor they made a even sicker rocket with a 90° motor and 800kg of weight, the last years of DTM/ITC Alfa Romeo era, nowadays DTM is so boring with Mercedes, Audi, BMW and lost a lot of followers, I miss the old DTM😔

      @@FrenchSpeedConnection I still think it`s the best looking DTM Car of that time. Always loved the looks. As kid i thought the BMWs looked boring, samo to the Mercedes - and the Audi V8s in the early 90th didnt look sporty either (even when the drivetrain was quite cool). The Mercedes is now grown on me, but for the other two the opinion is still the same. There was also a Martini livery of the 155 later on which was looking cool. - Not to forget the funny BTCC Story. - Really a great, great car with so much race history and storys around it.
