  • In this video tutorial, we explain how to convert a fraction decimal number to binary in a single precision floating point representation. We start by converting the whole number portion to binary by dividing by the base (2) while noting the remainders. We then convert the fraction portion by multiplying by 2 while noting the remainders. Next, we combine the two and move the decimal point completely out to the right while noting the number of steps it takes. The number of steps gives the exponent (4 in this case), while the new number is the mantissa.
