    By not holding their son accountable and shielding him from consequences, Jim Bob and Michelle picked his "well-being" over their daughters and his future victims.
    One of the saddest parts is watching the clip of Jim Bob and Michelle speaking at a conference and making light of the Josh situation by highlighting how many other families were in their situation. And them not realizing how Fed up that is.

      Actually, JB & Michelle unduly pressured 2 older daughters to say on another program that the molestations were not so bad. The daughters were worth so much less than a son. And the money & prestige meant victims were expendable.

    One small thing...the Duggars didn't intentionally stop having kids after the terrifying birth of her last surviving child, Josie. Josie has health issues and delays to this day. But they actually announced and then lost #20, and then after that couldn't have any more because she hit menopause. Basically, it was biology that told them to stop, not sanity. Just like they would never get their son help for his obvious sex addiction. He molested his sisters and a family friend, often during Bible study; he has admitted to a porn addiction; he cheated on his young, pregnant wife using Ashley Madison and made the other woman feel as if the encounter qualified as rape; and is in prison for child porn so vile that the agent who went through the material said it was in the top 5 worst things he's ever seen. This family is run by two monsters, and they're doing their damnedest to make sure they raise monsters as well. Thankfully, Jill and Jinger are out, and hopefully they will recruit others to leave the cult.

    • @liseklerekoper2441
      @liseklerekoper2441 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree with you except one fact with Jinger is that she’s not really out. Many believe she just traded one cult for another because she’s part of Grace Community Church in California where her husband Jeremy is a pastor or studying to be a pastor. All you have to do is Google Grace to see all of the allegations of abuse and the treatment of women that have been reported by many. It actually seems very similar to the IBLP, and just because women can wear pants, it doesn’t mean it’s that different.

      I remember thinking when Michelle was pregnant with #20 that that baby will be her last because she was in her mid 40s by then. Sadly, that baby was stillborn (named Jubilee if memory serves). I didn't really watch the show but if I was clicking channels, ended up catching an episode or two but mostly read about them on the news.

    • @liseklerekoper2441
      @liseklerekoper2441 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alyrios - I don’t recall the baby being stillborn. Michelle had gone in for an ultrasound & was told there was no heartbeat. This was still early in her pregnancy, but I don’t remember if the doctors did a D & C or she actually had to have labor induced. I think she was 19 or 20 weeks pregnant.

    • @alyrios
      @alyrios ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@liseklerekoper2441 I don't know if the baby was stillborn or not (I am not a doctor), but she was delivered or something, because I recall seeing a picture of Michelle's hand holding the baby's hand (teeny tiny hand) and that is a picture they used for the eulogy or something and there was some backlash about it. And I do remember they named the baby Jubilee.

    • @liseklerekoper2441
      @liseklerekoper2441 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alyrios - i’m sure you’re right about that so she must’ve been well into her second trimester, which means she had to actually deliver the baby who no longer had a heartbeat. I didn’t watch every episode and never saw that part, so thank you for clarifying.

    You are such a beautiful person Amanda, inside and out! I was adopted when I was two days old, my adoptive sister (25 years older than me, married with 3 kids at the time) actually had a total of 10 kids (5 of each) no twins. We were Jehovah's Witnesses. I was disfellowshiped (kicked out) just before I was 17 for fornication and rebelliousness. Needless to say, I lost my entire family and had to figure out my path without them. I was raised very sheltered with all of the strict rules of the religion, but I was a rebellious little shit and figured out ways to "buck the system" beginning in elementary school (my friends would hide the birthday/holiday treats in my desk for me and I would eat them after school even though I was not supposed to have them at all). I started making excuses as to why I could not go to meetings (church) around 15 or 16, studying for tests, homework, ect..and then when my "worldly and sinful" relationship was discovered, and I would not apologize to the elders so they could take my repentance before God, I was disfellowshipped (shunned). I was finally free, and I NEVER looked back. I still was able to have a relationship with my mother due to the fact that she was elderly and needed assistance with doctor appointments and shopping so we were able to find that loop hole. I always respected her choice in staying in the religion, but we still found a way to have a special relationship (I was her cabbage patch kid after all....my verbage, not hers) My sister and a couple of her kids and their families are still active, but they are all still close because they either did not get baptized or they have just kind of faded but not done anything to get kicked out. I am 50 now, I still have sadness at times from missing out on my family but I have made a new family and am no longer trapped in what I consider a cult. The saying of "Freedom isn't free" doesn't just apply to the military and our rights; it means that freedom comes at a cost and sometimes that cost is very painful....but you must do what you have to do for yourself and for your future. YOU are a beacon to those from your "community" and many others, keep shining!

    I’m fascinated that from your perspective, you can see how similar these cults are. I’m from the same cult as Shiny Happy People and the FIRST time I began to question my own cult was from reading the biographies of FLDS survivors! I started to see so many similarities. It was eye-opening! You’re so right! You don’t know that you’re in a high control, religious, fear-based cult when you’re in it! Once I finished several FLDS biographies, I knew there were too many similarities and I needed to start a journey to discover real truth.
    You never know who you might reach with your story…even people in cults that are not your own. Your strength is amazing! 💜

    A weird story about how physical abuse in childhood can stick throughout adulthood: 50+ years after the abuse, the emotional pain has leached out ... but I can see my mother's face as she was choking me with crystal clarity, 20+ years after her death, 30+ years after the last time I saw her. Trauma causes indelible memory, and thank god it does. Without it, we'd have to rely on our relatives.

    Everything about these cults just proves how powerful they KNOW women are. Women bring life into the world. Women raise the children, basically on their own. Women clothe and feed the men. And women are SO powerful that these poor little weak “men” can’t even control themselves if they see a woman’s body. They admit, through alllll of their rules, just how weak they are. You’re such an amazing, strong af woman, Amanda!!!! 💪😆😎💜 They know that. That’s why they fear you.

I loosened up on that as an adult. It's only in recent years that I've begun to question purity culture and realize how icky it is. I'm still Christian, so I'm trying to reconcile my beliefs vs. what I was taught.

      Hi- I think the purity thing is one of the most dangerous aspects of these high demand organizations- think about it- it’s not just sexual purity- it can also be racial and ethnic purity as in the case of Hitler. The natural world and the universe are diverse by nature. Diversity ensures that species continue to adapt and evolve. The push for purity goes against the nature of life itself. To turn something that not only continues the species but also, in humans and some other animals, forms deep and potentially lasting connections among members of the species into a crime (sin) just goes against the principles of life itself. Not to mention the torment it perpetuates.

      Yep, pretty much shunned her. She is the one that told on Josh SA. Jim Bob and Michelle didn't support their daughters who were SA by Josh. Jim Bob didn't pay his kids to be on the show ( made him millions). Then there is the whole contract that he got them to sign to be on show longer and not getting paid. He took advantage of her (and others), and she finally stood up for herself. He didn't like that. Jim Bob doesn't let her come to the house (shunning). I don't think her and JB talk at all. Since announced she was writing a book, her brother Jed likes comments against her (book and maybe more not sure) on social media. He didn't do that for Jingers book. It's got to be hard for her, but she is better off without them in the long run. Maybe someday other kids will leave the cult and have a relationship with her.

      Yes, please address the remaining episodes in this documentary. Appearances can be deceiving. The Duggar tv shows were about as real as a Disney movie. What kind of parents emotionally break their young children, refuse to educate them, devalue all girls further, make them sign "contracts", force them to raise their siblings while still children themselves, use them as unpaid child labor a lot, then force them to continue working for them while denying them any money as grown married adults??? This is horrible, abusive parenting. We can only hope the children break with the cult & start lives of their own while getting counseling to recover. Cults suck. So does the Discovery channel & IBLP.

    That thing with the umbrella is taught in the IBLP. They call it, "The Umbrella of Authority". It is a major tenet of their beliefs and teachings. They also suggest that, if one strays from the umbrella of authority, one is exposing oneself to great danger and risk, where one could easily be harmed, and might succumb to the bowls of Hell.

    Love hearing your perspective! I watched Shiny Happy People in one sitting and if really opened my eyes. I knew the IBLP was a cult ever since the new broke about Josh am years ago (and it was covered up my the family and the group). BUT, I did watch the show at first and just thought it was a conservative Christian family at the time. Looking back I’m so happy they cancelled the show, because as a Christian myself, I can EASILY see that the IBLP is not Christianity. It’s a cult. But to non-Christian’s, they are the Duggers claiming Christianity, and then they think all Christianity is like that, which could not be farther from the truth! So appreciate you sharing your experience and comparing to the order!

    I thought about the Order and the FLDS the whole time I was watching Shiny Happy People. There are so, so many similarities. I watched 19 Kids and Counting for years the same way I would watch a horror movie. There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that the lives of especially those women and girls were filled with abuse and trauma. I'm so glad Jill and Jinger are out, but I wish more would join them.

      I watched part of one episode when it was on. I thought JimBob was a perv, Michelle weird breeder, and kids were watching the kids. I had no idea what I was watching and it found sick. Yeah, no doubt something was going on. I watched a number of TH-cam videos about them after Josh's arrest.
      BTW, I watched one episode of Duck Dynasty and got sick feeling about them too. Something didn't seem right there either.

      @@capb6379 I don’t know where you got that idea but that’s not at all true she got pregnant for the first time almost 2 years into their marriage because she was using birth control pills that’s a huge part of their story

    • @phillisob
      @phillisob ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@capb6379 Jinger was married November 5, 2016; her first child was born on July 19, 2018. The daughter to face the most scrutiny regarding the timing of her pregnancy/birth was Joy, and it's still theoretically possible that they conceived on their wedding night or that they broke their rules prior to marriage. Either way, Jinger went on birth control at marriage.

    My kids are both grown. They were taught bodily autonomy and consent from birth. They were also taught anatomy and sexuality using age appropriate materials (highly recommend „It’s Perfectly Normal“) and both of them were virgin until adulthood. I don’t know if they still are, although given one child is asexual they probably are. But it is none of my business so long as everyone consents. As I told them as teens, I don’t sleep in your bed, so whom you sleep with is none of my business unless there is a consent issue.

They said ok in the office, but then immediately cuts to a confessional of them saying, “We think we can have one more. Doctors don’t tell us when to stop having kids, God does.” Baby #20 was miscarried after a few months. A baby girl named Jubilee that Michelle delivered and they had a funeral for on air.

They named it Jubalee. She then hit monopause so she physically could not have anymore. Nothing about them is "I make good judgements".
