I wish I had known some of this sooner. My last trip overseas to visit my bf got cancelled due to weather and I was told I would have to buy a new ticket. They credited me the amount of the original flight but the new ticket was $200 more since it was now a last minute ticket. They told me there was nothing they could do about that and I wish I had done some more research but I was just so stressed in that moment. I feel like they know that and take advantage of people in those emotional and stressful moments.

We paid for premium and the airplane changed, the seats didn’t exist on the new plane. We paid double what our flight was actually worth and air Canada refused to give us a refund of any amount.

Why has air travel become so bad? I remember how fun and relaxing is was to travel in the 70s and 80s. We got so many amenities: We always got a hot meal if our flight was 4 hours + Now it’s just peanuts and cookies. I just flew on Spirit and we didn’t even get a glass of water!! For younger generations that don’t remember how luxurious fly travel was (even in coach!) this poor service may seem like part of the package of flying nowadays.
As a parent of small kids, it’s terrifying to think of getting separated on the airplane. Would be nice if airlines made sure parents could always be seated with their children.
Do you have any insight on Department of transportation consumer rights on RENTAL CARS? I’ve experienced a complex situation with big name HERTZ . Could you do a podcast overall with rental cars . Great content, thank you. Here’s a question I can’t find a clear answer to. For international travel I always make sure to purchase travel insurance, usually the $20-$60 offer by the airline to add it to the flight cost. I’ve had international flights (US carrier) completely cancel flights on me (especially around the 4th of July high travel weeks). On top of that it’s tough/sometimes impossible to get rebooked for domestic connections once my rebooked international flight gets to the US. I’ve twice wound up only getting as far as the first US airport and having to make other arrangements to get home. (This can take extra days, and hours and hours of effort!) What I want to know is if I eventually get the airline to reimburse me for the extra costs (I find it takes a month to six weeks), can I also claim on my travel insurance? (Otherwise why am I buying it? In case the airline won’t reimburse me? For the incidentals the airline won’t pay for?)

The representative told us that there was another connecting flight to an airport in another state but we needed to agree within 5 minutes or we would have to wait until the next day for a flight out. We took that flight to the other state only to discover that there was a four hour layover. We made the best of it by meeting with relatives living in that state, but what a bummer. Now I’m wondering if we could’ve been compensated for the delays. Hours later, we finally reached our ultimate destination, but almost missed our rental car at 10:30 in the evening in which the agency was closing at 11 PM
We lucked out because that happened to us. They had to transfer us to a different flight which the only available seats were first class. It was a 16 hr, overseas trip that those seats are a hefty upgrade in the thousands. I don't know the protocol or legalities, but I believe they are responsible for you missing a connecting flight. If that ever happens and they don't outright ask if anyone has a connecting flight, like they did with us, they made an announcement, then ask as soon as you find out your flight's been delayed or canceled.
Hey, could you ask him how to get your train full of chemicals replaced when it crashes in Ohio and subsequently gets blown up and poisons a small town? Asking for a friend?

Good tips. I’ll have to remember next time I book a flight. Not that I ever had anything happen to my bags while flying because I haven’t. But sometimes things do happen to your bags when flying anywhere. Like bags do get delayed, lost, damaged or stolen whether intentionally or unintentionally. Because some passengers can have the same exact grab it without even looking at the name on the tag. When you see a different name on the bag that means you have to call the airlines or number to see who it belongs and it can get rectified. But when I travel I’ll always get insurance just in case something happens to my bags so I can be refunded if any situation like that rises. And I’ll take screenshots of the fine print too lol

What if your luggage gets destroyed and a suit jacket inside and the airline puts you off to another company for a replacement but what they offer isn’t comparable at all! I had a Samsonite suit bag they offered me $450 voucher but I don’t really like that. What’s my recourse?

Okay, the limiting the compensation to 775 dollars or 1550 dollars is silly when the cost of the airline ticket is way over that amount. For example, the flight to Australia is 1,130 or more. And what if the person books business class? I think that the caps should be removed such that the airlines must think twice before overbooking.

Question: what if your flight gets delayed or cancelled and you had connecting flights with another airline? Are those tickets also covered?
If you booked the flights together (code share booking), then the airline should rebook you at no cost. If its two separate reservations, you are SOL.

I'm not sure what Southwest provides, but I believe these are federal laws and not airline laws.
This would apply to all US airlines as this is all about Federal transportation law.
