Use a micro fiber cloth, dawn dish, soap, warm water. Then use non jell tooth paste. Rub on the lenses. Repeat on both lenses . You can buy a kit with similar products.

A good hack with WD40 is to use it to clean windshield wipes blades when they start streaking. It removes the grime from the blades and they work good again.

You want to fix them for good? Take 1000 grit sandpaper and sand the lenses down while using running water like from a hose. The water must be running constant so there is no buildup of particles. Then take Rubbing compound and buff out the lenses. You can do this either by hand or by a high speed buffer. Then take a lighter compound and finish up to a buffed out semi-shine. Now the final step, use pure carnauba wax and rub this into the lens until it's completely gone. You'll have brand new looking headlights. Please note: Only works (Obviously) on the outside of the lenses. A lot of what causes this oxidation is the heat from the bulbs themselves plus the environment depending on where you live in the world.

      @donwyoming1936 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

It's a lot easier if you start with 400 grit to get rid of the remaining clear coat. 1000 grit won't do it very quickly. Go up 200 grit at a time until you hit 2000, then do 2500 & 3000.
Polish with a buffer & buffing compound. Then seal with urethane if you so desire. I've been using ceramic buffing compound. Lasts about a year. Just buff it again.

You can do the same with faded plastic bumpers, grills and fender trims using any type of oil but they'll stay looking better longer than those headlights will.
Lights have a painted on clear coat that fades over time, you have to use super fine grit sandpaper to removed it, then either resptay them with a clearcoat paint or keep them waxed so they dont oxidize again.

I've used the meguiar's, turtle wax, and armor all products. But these cost between 25 and 27 dollars. Preferred the meguiar's kit myself l, drill attachment with different sanding disks and polishing head, with a headlight wax. I prefer to clearcut the lens for long term fix personally.
Alternatively you can piece together your own sandpaper, 250, 500, 1000, 2500, 5000 but locally no one sells anything close to 2000 grit

Here's how you actually clean headlights:
Step 1) Cover the edges around the headlight (painted part of car) with masking tape.
Step 2) use 600 grit sandpaper in up and down then side to side motions. Then use higher grit until about 2000 grit. (600, 1200, 1600, 2000). The lower the grit, the rougher the sandpaper. Also try to avoid sanding the same spot too long and try to keep your fingers as flat as possible. Press lightly. It's like brushing your teeth, not digging a hole.
Step 3) Use wax and a microfiber rag (or a buffer) to coat the headlight to prevent it from being damaged from UV Rays. (do step 3 2-3 times a year minimum, or once a month if you own something like a corvette and don't want to replace those expensive ass headlights).

WD40 on its own is a degreaser. It will evaporate, just think of it as a cleaner. There is a version with silicon which is best used on locks and window/door hinges. The silicon sticks around a lot longer so use that version and you'll have to redo it every couple of months. Straight wd40 will be needed to apply daily or more

It's oil effectively. The same thing would likely happen with Olive Oil. It's probably just filling in pits in the plastic. The next rain or just time will erase any of the effects.
Clouding on the lenses is from UV rays damaging the plastic. A better long term solution would probably be a method that could permanently resurface the lense to smooth it out.

Should be recalled by all auto manufacturers!
I mean, its a safty thing..your freakin headlights are important...right?
Whats wrong with glass? So what if it cost more. They're all overpriced anyway. So what if its a little heavier...how much weight difference? Not enough to make any difference.

Tried WD-40 before and it didn’t do a thing. If there is anything that really works, I still haven’t found it and I’ve tried several different things.🤔

Pretty sure the only way to really fix those headlights is to sand it down with progressively finer sandpaper, then seal it.

It works because u stil have a factory film over the headlight if u dont have that any more because that is what he is removing whit wd40 sow when u domt have that any kore u should sand it whit wet sand paper whit fine grits and than polihs

Mate, all wd40 does is make it shine, it will last about a day depending on the weather, to do it right you need to buff lots with abrasives then polish

Use acetone. Nail polish remover. Just don't pour it on, or it will eat through it eventually. Best way is to put some in a metal soda can, put a small hose in the end, and heat it with a blow dryer. The vapor will come out of the end of the hose, and voila! Clear headlights!

It will work but do you have to clean that off even after you apply it and you got to get you some UV clear coat and respray the lens the UV coding is what's naturally burned off that's what's causing that effect the WD-40 will simply take off the loose Grime from it but the permanently fix it you have to put the UV coating on elsewise you'll be doing it every couple of weeks and then it will slowly get worse every time and you're going to have to use how can I say a scotch pad for cleaning the excess off or a wet sandpaper like better than 600 grit because microgreens that you're going to cut into the plastic framing those are grooves that you're going to have to fill and since you can't do it like auto body and paste it smooth you got to be really careful a light touch even though it won't seem like much we'll have more effect than you putting elbow grease in if you know what I'm talking about
