One eye destroyed and both legs broken, it's hard to believe that Ed Tipper survived his injuries. But he did. He lived to the age of 95.

The tubes they're firing rockets out of are not RPGs. An RPG is a Russian weapon that comes along much later. The weapon they are using is called a Bazooka. The Bazooka is a man-portable recoilless anti-tank rocket launcher weapon, widely deployed by the United States Army, especially during World War II.

Yes, Blithe survives. One of the few mistakes Band of Brothers makes. Then went on to serve, with distinction in the Korean War. "The only hope you have is to accept the fact that you're already dead. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be able to function as a soldier is supposed to function: without mercy, without compassion, without remorse. All war depends upon it.”
    - Captain Ronald Speirs. He's more than a man of his word and will soon prove it for the entire company. Currahee ♠

@@noahzynski There was another Albert Blithe who died in 1948, and a lot of the veterans remembered attending the funeral. When Ambrose was writing the book the show is based on the Vets he talked to confused that Blithe with this Blithe. Easy enough mistake to make but I'm surprise it hasn't been corrected after all these years!

Quick note about this episode...the makers of the show could not fully portray the terrain around Carentan the way it really was, so it is really hard for people to understand why the troops went straight up the road to get into the town. The Germans had flooded all the areas around Carentan, and the only ways into the town were across the few raised causeways...which the Germans defended heavily. There was no option for the Americans trying to get into the town but to get across the causeways as fast as possible, there was no way to approach the town under cover or concealment. The makers of the show did the best they could, but there was just no way for them to show how really constrained the access points to the town were.
It is one of the reasons I recommend that channel The Operations Room to folks....because they show the real battles so you can see the few important things they could not get historically correct show in the series.

although the men in easy thought he was dead blithe didn't actually die until the 1950s (i think) either way he survived the war i have no idea why the show said he died in Normandy.

The men lost track of him after he was sent back to the US following his injury. Then, 2 vets swore they attended his funeral, but all accounts point toward being another Blithe, perhaps written Blythe, who was part of the 82nd, not the 101st.

    1) I'll join the plethora telling you Blythe lived. :) Did I tell you about tanks? Over rated. Does mean they suck, means they aren't invincible. th-cam.com/video/taHFUKKKmJM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zZehkPRX0gxQOGpu a WW2 training film. Everybody over estimates tanks, including the other companies that fell back.
