    Thanks a bunch. I was really looking for that second riff that I had seen Knofler do in some of his videos but couldn't ever see his fingering - turns out it is pretty simple. Great!

    thanks brother that was very fun! now going to look for the worksheet to which you refer.. found the fingerpicking right hand stuff very interesting, would enjoy your perspective on another knopfler trick he learned from Chet, which is banjo rolls...

    oh by the way, not like I want to make more work for you but one more piece of feedback is I really personally like actual music notation instead of tab, I appreciate you are extremely specific about the strings and notes when just building licks, so both would be great, it is looking at an actual score where for me the chords and intervals and keys are very clear... but anyhow really thrilled about your sultans licks, nice job

  • @blund69
    @blund69 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hi - the first tab shows pulling up 3fret on 3rd string but you are actually pulling up on 12fret 3rd string. Did I miss something?

    • @mat0c
      @mat0c 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +blund69 Not missing anything, I think it is just a typo. Definitely a 12th fret bend.

      Matthew O'Connor so.. We Take that 3rd as a 12th ? I mean like that 3 does not exist?

    Nice lesson but if you want to get the early Mark Knopfler sound (i.e. pre "Brothers In Arms"), you need a Strat in the bridge/middle position. Can't believe that Dan Holton doesn't own a Strat. I have a '56 Gold Top but wouldn't dream of playing early Knopfler on it. I'd go straight for my Strat.

    • @Malcolm701
      @Malcolm701 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Huh, it's nothing to do with what type of guitar you use.

    • @Rick_Cleland
      @Rick_Cleland 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      _"Brothers In Arms"_ was played on a Les Paul,
      _"Sultans of Swing"_ was played on a Strat.

    There is one and only Mark Knopfler in the world and it is TOTALLY waste of time to try to imitate him. You can try, but your life is in every case too short to learn play like HIM!!!

  • @PearsAreOkay
    @PearsAreOkay 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The first tab part he starts playing at 2:06, what is with "3" there? I have never seen that notation. Everything is occurring in that high part of the neck, not anywhere near the third fret, so this is confusing to me. Anyone care to explain?

    I think you should 'start' by looking at your right hand. Which fingers, nails or no nails. Playing with nails is more Spanish style and similar to playing with a plectrum...which is not the sound.

  • @StreamForceOfficial
    @StreamForceOfficial 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @reineralex9270
    @reineralex9270 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you would explain Mark Knopfler his technique like this, he will turn off his Amp. His technique is based on his feeling to play, you never get by only using the technique, if you ask me. ;-)

  • @333jobforacowboy

    Probably should have used a strat

  • @irishsteve209

      no

    • @Malcolm701
      @Malcolm701 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the first thing this guy should have covered. As far as I know MK doesn't have long nails but plays with the balls of his fingers, however occasionally he uses nails to emphasise some down strokes.

  • @alangriff1
    @alangriff1 9 ปีที่แล้ว
