    As you are learning, good sanitation is very important on a live aboard boat, especially with a lot of people. Infections, and viruses can very easily be transferred from one to another. One way to minimize this problem is to go over everything normally handled, sat on, laid on, or touched with a dilute solution of bleach paying special attention to the heads. Also a good idea to sanitize, and dry wetsuits after use. I'd also strongly recommend losing the pig.

    Unbelievable quality of your photography. Second to none today! Man, I hope you guys are archiving all this work, because at some point in the future it will be worth a lot, not just financially, but as a true and accurate record of the health and wellbeing of the areas you film. The detail with your macro filming is superb!

    Nate and Crew, I grew up watching Jacque Couseau, completely fasincinated and entranced by His underwater adventures and ocean life. But the Biggest thing of all was it made look at Our Seas and Oceans as Living and vibrant Life Form, Fragile yet somewhat resilient. It made me an Ambassador of My Seas and Oceans, and Our World. I am a Conservative, that Loves Nature. My Point Nate, You, and Your Crew are the new Jacque Couseau of the World Today! Use your Important Role in Life wisely!!! Many Young and impressionable minds are Watching! I hope You Understand what I'm trying to express to You Nate, and Crew! Love watching You Guys! Best Wishes and Blessings!

    I love it when you put up the names of the marine life. Thank you. I realize that it would be silly to label everything but I also enjoy learning as I watch. I also want to thank the beautiful Emily for being a good friend. I find it difficult to read the emotions of the locals when you do trading. Sometimes it appears a bit awkward. Once in awhile though they really get comfortable. Like when the kids came over and swam with you several videos back. They were having a blast. Anyways, just ramblin' now. Love your videos and amazing photography.

    Thanks for sharing your experiences in these awesome Solomon Islands. When I traveled to South America near the Equator from North America in the early 70's I found having a couple ounces of powdered golden seal extremely helpful in controlling infections used to dress wounds or taken internally in rice papers. After two years the immune system took over and infections stopped. 'Love your trip as a sailing commune immersed in adventure. Highest Blessings

      Keeping an open wound *very* dry stops the infection from becoming worse, because bacterias needs water too: No water - no new bacterias.

    That's just crazy..... whenever I have a wound I always go swimming in the ocean and it helps me heal faster then when I dont. When my sister was going through puberty and had alot of pimples we would go to the ocean and collect the water so she could wash her face with it. The ocean water was the only thing that helped clear her skin. So in my experience the ocean water heals.

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      One problem in the Solomon Islands is that the ocean is also the toilet for many villages. And where there are rivers meeting the ocean, that's other villages sewage system at work.

    • @steventalbott903
      @steventalbott903 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are some bacteria in ocean water where, if it get's in a open wound will actually eat the flesh, not worth taking a chance on.

      I grew up the same way. I used to sail up and down the east coast in the summers. One year I got a severe cut on my toe I ripped it down to the bone. The doctor's advice was while we were sailing, to hang the injury over the side and let the salt water flush it out. No infection

    It's a nice touch when you ID'd the marine life during your dives. It would be interesting to learn what the names of all these fish, coral and plant life are.
    Would it be possible to ID each other underwater like you did some of the fish? It's just nice to follow along on who's who when it's not so obvious.
    Time to reach out to a well known Doctor and see if they will prescribed some antibiotics that you can keep long term on board.
    Great episode Capt. Nate 🤝🤝🤝👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

    • @PaulBartomioli
      @PaulBartomioli 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had the same questions concerning fish 🐟 and plant life. I have never done any kind of editing. What I have learned from watching other sites, is that they typically spend 40 hours a week, editing to get a 30-minute video. And those sites don't bother with naming the fish or the coral or anything like that. I think it's a trade-off. We would get much more educated, but would you live with one video per month? Would the TH-cam channel even survive with that much of the decrease in content? I do like the idea of identifying the divers though. Underwater at distance, they all look alike, except for 🥜

    • @tomwilliams8675
      @tomwilliams8675 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PaulBartomioli I'm sure it takes a lot of time for them to produce the videos each time but it is what "pays the bills" or a good portion of it each week. And with all respect it is supposed to be a learning enterprise.

    • @PaulBartomioli
      @PaulBartomioli 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not arguing the point. But, is the ROI worth it if it reduces content, likes, merch sales, reduces the money that pays the bills? That's all I'm saying. And I haven't even touched on the attention span of some viewers.

      @@PaulBartomioli They *are* an educational non-profit. Maybe they could make longer episodes and put them on a subscription-based platform? (Not naming names, as this one is jealous... ;-)
      Especially if the subscription comes with a license to show in class etc. (I know in the US, a teacher automatically has a license to do so, but what about other countries?).
      Or maybe license the content to some networks? (Distant Shores TV has been doing that for the last 30 years, they've been aired in 86 countries, AFAIK)

This story came from a marine biologist on a reef dive boat seven day tour I took! Attempts at promoting something so lovely, just ends up as exploitation!

Work on your neutral buoyancy in operating your equipment so you don’t have to risk damaging it by settling and touching the reef.

    Love you lot, but it seems you have changed the style of music you use. The last two episodes seem to have the annoying cheesy music typical of youtube videos. Please go back to the trip-hop/chilled-out sound. It suits the laid-back vibe of your channel and it's soothing. Your channel is pure relaxing escapism for the viewers. For the underwater scenes maybe even just ambient tones would feel much better. This new stuff is jarring to me. Followed you since the beginning! xx
