I had similar with mine there would start then die, there is a small filter in the airline from front fairing/ ram Air scoop that feeds into carbs. This was clogged and bike was not getting enough air, strong smell of petrol etc. Have to take air box off to get to it. The tube feeds in through frame on the front right hand side. Cleaned mine out and it's sweet as. We'll worth checking before pulling out fuel line and carbs etc.
I just had the Same problem, ended up being the fuel pump. Early pre 05 I believe had a vaccum line to help it the 07 I've been working on doesn't. Rebuild kits are 150ish. Oem is probably the way to go if you can swing it.
I had the same issue. It was blocked pilot jets caused by Ethanol separation in the fuel over time. Bike was left standing for a year with fuel in carbs. Better to run it dry with the fuel tap turned off before storing it. If it’s locking up on the starter you are probably hydro locking it due to a flooding carb caused by gummed up float valve
@@justinmaxwell1608 can you share your wisdom? What was exactly the issue? I just swapped the fuel pump and it was running nice, until it started to leak fuel to one of the cylinders over time when not running. So I opened the carbs to check for dirt anywhere. Found some, no big deal. Reassembled and after 3 rides, started to sound like this one. What did you do to resolve? Just swapped the pump again? For an OEM one?
hey man I got the same bike and it isn't running well either kinda of like yours.. it was sat up for like 6 months. I have to have the choke on to start it then it dies.
+Jacob West (Bakefy) a few days ago I was able to get it to start.. after I while I could play with the throttle and give it gas and if I let go it would die. It also back fired when I revved it..
+Santiago Garcia Yeah, still could need just a carb cleaning. However, it could also mean your plugs need changed. They are kind of a pain to get to, but its only an afternoon project. I would see what cylinder if giving you trouble by spraying starter fluid down the carb with the engine running. One of the 4 carbs may have 0 change when you do this. The others will either cause it to rev up or die a little. That is how I was able to determine I either had bad spark or bad compression in a certain cylinder.
+Skeefoo Panama I fixed and sold this bike awhile back. It was an issue with the 3rd spark plug being stripped from a previous mechanic. This was causing the compression in that cylinder to be less than ideal. I redid threads in that effected cylinder and had much better results. th-cam.com/video/tN0pZcR7RZ4/w-d-xo.html&nohtml5=False That is a timeline of the videos I did take. Unfortunately I didn't do a great job documenting the steps I took to get there.
+Jacob West (Bakefy) Jacob, You won't believe the bike I just came across it's a 99 YZF600r with only 1,300 miles on it that's been in the living room of the original owner for like the last 15 years. It started up but ran bad, I pulled the carbs and cleaned them, but the diaphragms were rotted, and they're 95$ each, but the bike is like fucking new, It's gonna be worth it. I can't believe how expensive a few flaps of rubber is but they are. Dude this bike is clean.I should have it on the road soon as parts get here.
+Skeefoo Panama Probably not. Its just a joke of a nickname my brother and friend started when I was a little kid. They were basically saying the baby talk version of my name... I just embraced it.
yeah... the third cylinder's spark plug was screwed up. something was wrong with it, probably a cross threading. I used a thread cleaner to cut new threads into the block. this allowed the plugs to sit in the block correctly and fire appropriately. it runs like a dream in my newer videos with this bike.
you would know, it should be able to finger tighten until you get to the crush washer. I can link you to the tool I bought on amazon tomorrow morning. just getting to bed here.

Hugh Brackenbury yeah samething I was told!
PILOT JET needs to get unblocked !!! clean carbs !
I had the Same situation roll into my shop. Ended up being the fuel pump

What was the problem? Can you send me a picture where was it?
My friend's bike do the same...
I have a 05 and am trying to clean the carbs what the best solution to clean them in my ultrasonic cleaner ?
I used aluminum wheel cleaner lol it’s made the aluminum look great and my bike runs good now
I am having the same issue. sometimes i get it to run like that for 5 minutes or so but the moment i pull the throttle it shuts off. HOW DO I FIX IT?
Clean and check the points style fuel pump.

+Santiago Garcia It sounds similar, its most likely just a carb cleaning that is needed. Try that first, then test the spark. Good luck

+Jacob West (Bakefy) so if it bad compression then what?
+Jacob West (Bakefy) should I take apart the carbs?
Check the rubber diaphragms in top of carbs under black caps.

JACOB Does "Bakefy" mean what I think it means?

just give it a little bit check stuff in gas tank
Do it was just the spark plugs that caused this
needs new spark plugs not firing on all cylinders
Sounds like a 1 cill 😂
This Same problem I have
How do u take off the seat?
You key should release the seat (check near where the left passenger foot peg is... pretty sure its near there.
I found it but it wouldn't crank up I put c foam in it with new gas

was it tightening after a couple turns? I believe im having same issue
