My character, Solomon Grey, a wizard I’m playing in CoS had to kill his own mother because she’d been turned sometime before the events of the campaign and was a bride of Strahd. When I did this I decided to collect her ashes. Little chance of reviving her since I believe lower level or conventional resurrection spells wouldn’t work on her but either way it was a sentimental and emotional moment. It was then that the Goblin Druid who had turned himself into a wind elemental prior swept through and claimed as he moved to attack Strahd he purposely used some length of his movement to tea bag my mothers ashen remains. She was blown everywhere and he later helped me recollect enough to be about a handful.

Though just barely as i almost blew a few points on my staff on him for it after the fact. 😅 it’s all good now though.
Not me, but there was a session where our dedicated healer was absent, and an NPC we all loved (an older, single father who lost his sight while defending his home from the BBEG) died while shielding some commoners from a pack of wild mutant dog things. We were counting on his guidance since none of us really knew what we were doing, and we were invested in seeing his story come to an end, finally reclaiming his home from the BBEG, so we were super bummed that he died, but we all thought it was fitting that he died saving others. However, the next session, our healer was back, and since the NPC had only just died, he cast Revivify and brought him back to life. We're all really glad he's all right, but I don't think the DM was counting on him surviving since he kind of just wandered off and got captured as soon as we made it to our next destination.
So the party I was I had to save a pig form a dragon and after we defeated said dragon the pig ended up being a fea queen and it was meant to like a moment were to were like in awe and she gave us each a wish and I ruined the moment by making her my wife with my wish.

Not me, but my friend ruined a pretty emotional scene WITH A PUN 😅 it was my first campaign, and I had put a lot of time and effort into my first character. She was a human sorceress who had been sacrificed to the gods in the temple she grew up in. The godess of death took pity on her and brought her back to life, saying her journey didn't end here. When she was brought back, her body was covered in mystical runes she didn't understand. When she experienced intense emotions or used magic, they would glow. So now, onto the moment that was ruined. Our party had been travelling together for a few days, and my character had wrapped her body up so no one could see her runes. One night her and the teifling warlock were on the night watch. We talked and shared stories or our past. My character, thinking she'd made a friend, opened herself up to the teifling and showed her the runes on her body. My sorceress started to cry and asked, "Are they ugly when they glow?" As they began to pulsate a light blue light with every tear 😢.........the teifling snorted and rolled up her sleeve to reveal a poorly done rune tattoo and said, "Don't worry, I used to self charm to" 🤡 moment ruined
Last words before you pass to the next World. And before you officially died you say your mama. They can't recover from that and you passed into the next World satisfied. Absolutely Legend
For me, our party was split up doing an infiltration mission. Myself and our lizardman had snuck in a nuclear bomb (I was a skaven engineer) while our witcher member was sneaking through the castle to find a VIP. He finds the mother of the Lord we want to nuke, and she's dying. She tries to have a few last words about us needing to save her son and guide him back to good and show him the light, Yada Yada Yada. While the DM was going through this whole emotional speech, I let out a snicker "Oh he's going to see the light alright," referencing the nuke I brought. The party laughs but keeps it together, and the emotional scene continues. I then try to pull up a TH-cam clip from History of the Entire World where I wanted the clip _"Taste the Sun",_ but a damn problem on my discord is that sound keeps bleeding through even when I'm muted. So here's this heart wrenching sad scene about this old lady pleading for us to be the heros, and here's my damn bleeding audio blasting through on the chat "HEY, TIRED OF LIVING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN?" The session was stopped for a good few minutes just from laughter
I totally wrecked the mood in one of my character's story arc. Facing off against the newly revealed BBEG whom was the brother of my Deva's previous incarnation, we fought him in one of Vecna's hidden Wizard Tower libraries and when we defeated him, the lawful paladin/fighter gave my character the last word. The chaotic ranger's player gestured at me when no one else was looking, and I completely ruined the scene as I proceeded to shout "Thanks I could help, bro!" And Sparta kicked him into the aether of this shadow dimension before we were all thrown out as Vecna collapsed the tower. Everyone shared a collected Fuuu at me, the Ranger player laughed his ass off at going with his stupid suggestion and when the BBEG came back in the finale, he had a special attack when he could instantly teleport adjacent to me and punt me across the battlefield. After we concluded, everyone else had a moment of dreaded realization when my character, played as a happy-go-lucky foolhardy, ignoramous Artificer and his previous incarnations were key figures in the history of the DM's setting.
Not me but a party member for some reason decided to cast disguise self at a funeral reception on the lawn and stumble out of the temple. Any guesses as to what he was disguised as? Yep that’s right the dead guy
My party once sacrificed an NPC and an important artifact to stop a vampire from covering the continent in darkness. It was a huge victory for us and a big emotional moment which became retroactively funny when my wizard and the cleric devised a way to abuse Temporal Shunt or whatever it was called to go back in time at that spot and grab the NPC right before the artifact exploded thus rewriting history in a minor way. Since our characters didn’t see the NPC die in the explosion and never found a body we had no reason to believe he had been moved to safety in the moments just before he would have died. As such we met him again later with him explaining that he had been grabbed and teleported out of the tower by a mysterious man whereupon he ran to safety and regrouped with his fellow soldiers.
I have a serious problem. In any situation or media, if I hear the word "among" I literally cannot help but audibly laugh. It's involuntary at this point. It's gotten to the point where my dm is now penalising laughing at the word among if it's meant to be a serious situation
Our party had recently captured a cult member and convinced her to join our party and turn on the cult. At one point, she had an emotional breakdown about both her hand in carrying out their plans and her imminent betrayal of former friends. She was on her knees, sobbing. I had my little kobold child character go up to her to offer her reassurance about the righteousness of our cause and some kind words about her courage to proceed. He then approached and gave her a comforting embrace. … And then proceeded to pick her pocket, using the tender moment as a distraction and also to obfuscate later suspicion. (While cute, he’s also a rogue thief with kleptomania.) The DM was so taken aback by my character’s brazen action that I got an Inspiration point. I think it was at that point my character slipped from chaotic good towards chaotic neutral territory.

This happened to us. The gm narrates how the lordling who has mistakenly went after our group the entire campaign thinking we were evil and trying to undermine our home kingdom dies horribly by our hands. But he returns as an undead and we HATE undead so after a short battle we defeat him, he's stuck to a massive tree and set ablaze. It's a solemn moment as a mistaken lord who just wanted to help our kingdom meets his end as we see the smoke pillar in the distance as we walk we consider our shared past. Until we reach far away. -"Nu ser ni inte röken av han nå mer! :D" Translation. -"Now you don't see the smoke of him no more." It's a swedish saying similar to it's raining cats and dogs. Referring to the fact one finally don't have to see something anymore, it's usually a relief thing. It was also a horribly literal pun and he totally ruined the solemn mood he had expertly set up with utter nonsense. We love him, but dagnabbit. :P

We were resting and my bard cast prestidigitation (called Cantrip back then before it became a spell category) and created sparkly butterflies to fly around this waif we'd rescued. The DM describe the woman get emotional and cry. Unbeknownst to us, she was once able to do magic but had that taken from her. T_T Also, The Beard's story sounds like very poor DM planning. If you want your group to be a group.... make them a group.
A dwarf lost his wife she was crushed into the mast of our shipwrecked ship. I was a lizardfolk the dwarf was crying and my giy was like yea i dont understand what your feeling so im gonna leave.
I have the story that is opposite from the topic. So I was in a homebrew Kingdom Hearts Game. The group was in San Fransokyo, Big Hero 6 world. My character decided to take the first watch. I if I remember correctly it was a nat 1 or a very low roll like a two. He was standing on the edge of the cliff and out of nowhere a huge fireball came out of the darkness and hit me square in the back causing me to fall. Luckily I had fire resistance but the fall damage...it hurt. Move along the next night my character decided he wanted revenge and prove himself he is aware of his surroundings. He wanted to take first watch again. This time, he was sitting on a log keeping watch. I rolled again, don't remember the roll but it was low. A face came out of the darkness and was inches away from my character. He did not run or scream or try to attack. Instead, he kissed the mysterious figure. Why? Because why not. That kiss alone turn a very powerful enemy into an ally because she developed a crush and he to her.

When I walked in after fighting a war for a large island nation I didn't sign up for. Our reward... 500gp and told to get out as we were exiled for supporting the war effort for this pacifist nation... by the pacifist nation. Well it was supposed to me a "damn we really got screwed over" emotions, and we were "supposed" to leave. My character, looked around at the room, filled with every higher up and every district leader. Looked at my buddy. "Hold the door." And that's how my character became the new Ruler of that island nation.
Mine is very short. But it led to an end game campaign that was so great Especially when I found out without even knowing it. That I was technically the big bad evil guy. I was a bard warlock, Our party was at a city that was having a magic convention. All sorts of new and incredible ways to use magic and magical technology. A whole bunch of terrorists had invaded Deciding to use the convention as a way to Cause chaos. Now at this convention I Decided to show off my incredibly powerful summoning of and enslaving fiends withmagic songs. So I summoned up with a song one of those big giant Redfurred gorillas with the Blue ogre face, the one eyeball. When the terrorist attacked, it Disrupted my concentration. Aaaaand well...it broke free right in the middle of a city Convention. Almost everyone On our team died, but we didn't thankfully died And we make sure none of the towns folk did either. The terrorists apparently were part of some sort of major religious holy sect that hates anything to do with the arcane. And they were even actually able to summon angels to help them fight. Or I suppose actually lesser members of the court of heaven. They don't really list the heavenly entities as being stated in the monster manual. Long story short. When the dust was settling And everyone was finally Coming to terms with the fact that my little pc creature ( I used a custom race.) was able to pull off that Not just being Able to sing up such a demon. But also to put it away. All I could have them do was sit and smile.. And say to the rest of the group " Well that was fun who else is hungry? Watching That demon eat those terrorists made me hungry." After we had just seen it grabbed two terrorists and then an angel and bit their heads off Eating them. Needless to say, the rest of the adventurers were very very nonplus And I got a Stern talking to in character about why it's not correct. In this planet to summon up extra dimensional creatures. Even though for my character They're species barters with these things all the time. And enslaves them all the time and treats It's all like it's nothing because they are The fiends Demons and devils alike from the deepest pit. Who do not deserve any sort of concept of rights or Decency in treatment. My character however was happy they had finally done it. And that started them along the path Of evil. Resulting in me without me, even knowing technically being Is the big bad evil guy. A role that my bard warlock actually took too like a duck to water. Essentially becoming like an evil medieval pop idol. The party really started To raise their eyebrows when I develop the following Of groupies that were essentially a Borderline cult. They made for very good minions when we needed them and I didn't Here any of the party complaining about it then. Ah, but what the heck, ye die a hero or live long enough to see yerself become the villain. right? .I also won, by the way. One of the few time When the bad guy wins.
Players ruin’s emotional moment in my campaign.. by quitting the game the session before a huge reveal about their characters past that would affect the rest of the campaign beyond just his character. So he didn’t exactly try to, but by not attending kinda makes it fall flat as it was for him (I have moments like this for all the players in this campaign.) sure it’ll still be big for the other players. But what am I supposed to do roleplay that players characters surprise? Feels kinda cringy and like I’m playing the game with myself for myself while others watch.

This became relevant last night. Playing rime of the frost maiden for spoiler warning Our party had acquired a team of 6 dwarves and a tribesman as token support from the speakers moot before assulting the duragar base. 6 of the 7 additions being warriors and the final being a naive but wager to help cleric of berranor truesilver ( same as myself) So naturally she latched onsto me like a tick which i didnt mind as i was working on the progress of building her confidence. Our feywild elven bard did not take a liking to her. Often suggesting ways of killing her off And during a combat some ingame weeks later the poor girl gets evicerred by an ambush by an ice troll Unfortunately i didnt have enough diamonds to ressurect her and our bard cheered wildly at her demise. Jokes on him , shes going to be my new spiritual guardian that i summon every time in combat and will have him in range to see her spectre every battle Remembering this video i said well here is one for mr ripper
These were all pretty good stories.... But usually the emotional set ups I create are interrupted by dick jokes and life remarks. It broke me from wanting to develop a serious game with that group.

In the third story, what was the alignment of the Wizard?
When I walked in after fighting a war for a large island nation I didn't sign up for. Our reward... 500gp and told to get out as we were exiled for supporting the war effort for this pacifist nation... by the pacifist nation.
Well it was supposed to me a "damn we really got screwed over" emotions, and we were "supposed" to leave.
My character, looked around at the room, filled with every higher up and every district leader.
Looked at my buddy.
"Hold the door."
And that's how my character became the new Ruler of that island nation.
Mine is very short. But it led to an end game campaign that was so great Especially when I found out without even knowing it. That I was technically the big bad evil guy.
I was a bard warlock, Our party was at a city that was having a magic convention. All sorts of new and incredible ways to use magic and magical technology. A whole bunch of terrorists had invaded Deciding to use the convention as a way to Cause chaos. Now at this convention I Decided to show off my incredibly powerful summoning of and enslaving fiends withmagic songs. So I summoned up with a song one of those big giant Redfurred gorillas with the Blue ogre face, the one eyeball. When the terrorist attacked, it Disrupted my concentration. Aaaaand well...it broke free right in the middle of a city Convention. Almost everyone On our team died, but we didn't thankfully died And we make sure none of the towns folk did either. The terrorists apparently were part of some sort of major religious holy sect that hates anything to do with the arcane. And they were even actually able to summon angels to help them fight. Or I suppose actually lesser members of the court of heaven. They don't really list the heavenly entities as being stated in the monster manual. Long story short. When the dust was settling And everyone was finally Coming to terms with the fact that my little pc creature ( I used a custom race.) was able to pull off that Not just being Able to sing up such a demon. But also to put it away. All I could have them do was sit and smile.. And say to the rest of the group " Well that was fun who else is hungry? Watching That demon eat those terrorists made me hungry." After we had just seen it grabbed two terrorists and then an angel and bit their heads off Eating them. Needless to say, the rest of the adventurers were very very nonplus And I got a Stern talking to in character about why it's not correct. In this planet to summon up extra dimensional creatures. Even though for my character They're species barters with these things all the time. And enslaves them all the time and treats It's all like it's nothing because they are The fiends Demons and devils alike from the deepest pit. Who do not deserve any sort of concept of rights or Decency in treatment. My character however was happy they had finally done it. And that started them along the path Of evil. Resulting in me without me, even knowing technically being Is the big bad evil guy. A role that my bard warlock actually took too like a duck to water. Essentially becoming like an evil medieval pop idol. The party really started To raise their eyebrows when I develop the following Of groupies that were essentially a Borderline cult. They made for very good minions when we needed them and I didn't Here any of the party complaining about it then. Ah, but what the heck, ye die a hero or live long enough to see yerself become the villain. right?
.I also won, by the way. One of the few time When the bad guy wins.
Players ruin’s emotional moment in my campaign.. by quitting the game the session before a huge reveal about their characters past that would affect the rest of the campaign beyond just his character. So he didn’t exactly try to, but by not attending kinda makes it fall flat as it was for him (I have moments like this for all the players in this campaign.) sure it’ll still be big for the other players. But what am I supposed to do roleplay that players characters surprise? Feels kinda cringy and like I’m playing the game with myself for myself while others watch.

Our party had acquired a team of 6 dwarves and a tribesman as token support from the speakers moot before assulting the duragar base.
6 of the 7 additions being warriors and the final being a naive but wager to help cleric of berranor truesilver ( same as myself)
So naturally she latched onsto me like a tick which i didnt mind as i was working on the progress of building her confidence.
Our feywild elven bard did not take a liking to her. Often suggesting ways of killing her off
And during a combat some ingame weeks later the poor girl gets evicerred by an ambush by an ice troll
Unfortunately i didnt have enough diamonds to ressurect her and our bard cheered wildly at her demise.
Jokes on him , shes going to be my new spiritual guardian that i summon every time in combat and will have him in range to see her spectre every battle

People who take these moments away from other players are just awful
These were all pretty good stories.... But usually the emotional set ups I create are interrupted by dick jokes and life remarks. It broke me from wanting to develop a serious game with that group.
