    Great video.Today I purchased a FX9 loupe for my FX6 -clips onto the monitor.It’s now easier to check focus looking through the loupe and is great for shoulder shooting.For the price of a cf express card it was a good investment

    Such a great reflection! I am still an FS5M2 user, and you made some great points about the buttons on the display, the control wheel, and the ease of use of off-and-on selection. I have watched a million videos about the FX6, and very few cover those topics.

    • @MindfulGrinds

      Also the S&Q options and cache recording you discussed are right on. I completely agree and love the FS5M2 for that very reason.

      I also run with an Inferno 100% of the time on my FS5M2, so there is very little reason to upgrade until the following line comes out. I may be jumping back over to Nikon, we shall see.

    Great video, I want to upgrade from my FS5M2 however I'll keep it for a few more years maybe, the image is great.

    As an FS5 owner myself shooting wildlife this was such a helpful review. Thank you so much, just saved me an upgrade. Now about that new video head your rockin’ because one big issue I have with the FS5 and the 200-600 is balance. Glad to see the lens support too, the set up is way to much for Sony e mount.

      This video doesn’t show it, but I did get the 8sinn ARRI baseplate for the setup. Even with the Cartoni head being able to slide to different balance points, it would max out. So now I keep my Cartoni centered and can move the 8sinn front and back for balance and when I add the 2x. Adds some more weight but it seems a little more stable.

    Very nice no-nonsense review Ryan -- packed with so much info for a second I thought I was watching Gerald Undone! LOL Makes me want to try an FS5. Cheers!

    Awesome review. I think this is a bit out of my league. Probably go with the hybrid a7siii honestly. But I would love to see you do a video on how you approach frame rate choices while shooting wildlife. I haven’t really been able to find anything conclusive with that yet. Thanks for that supreme quality content dude. I like the voiceover approach for sure.

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! That was more a product of not having the time to sit In front of a camera while the FX6 was actually here, so I’m glad it worked out. I’ll keep the frame rate idea in mind!

    Nice video. You know that u can record with preroll at shogun? It cashes 2s in 4k and 8 Hd... no quite like trigger fs5 but its something cool that dont let you loose same action before hit record, and you can set it to 120fps an slow in post.

  • @robinswildlife
    @robinswildlife 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the professional and intensive review! Thinking about updating to the FX6 in the near future (from a A7iii). But I was a bit disappointed when you said that the camera can’t capture audio at 4K 120fps, that’s a real bummer! Any idea why that’s? Greeting from Germany :)

    Would you ultimately recommend the FS5 over the FS6 for wildlife? How big is the difference in low light?

  • @jasielm5258
    @jasielm5258 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you are ever in Miami Fl hit me up. Got good places in the everglades for bold Eagles. Recently went with V mount that way i can power the inferno and fs5 from one source, balances out the weight very well. Keep up the good work and thanks for bringing light on the subject of S&Q shutter angle issue. Knowing that the FX6 now has no longer cache recording took it out of my reasons to buy it.

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How's the weight of the Vmount compared to 2 batteries in the Atomos and a bigger one in the FS5? I've thought about going that route but weight is starting to concern me. If I'm being honest with myself and not trying to be all macho, my setup is teetering the limit of what my aging shoulder can handle without doing more damage to it.

    • @jasielm5258

      @@RyanMenseWildlife I prefer the v mount then the NPF batteries. Just finished filming 72 hours in the Gulf Fishing and used the inferno paired with the V mount. Worth it in my opinion and just works

    Great footages!! Is the 1200mm sharp?

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. If you want to see more footage with the teleconverter and 1200mm, much of this video here was with the 2x: th-cam.com/video/TsUSvz69J1Q/w-d-xo.html
      Now for that video, I was using a rented 2x before I bought my own, and I think it was definitely sharp. However, with the one I bought I don't find it to be as sharp. It's ok, but not on the same level. So there are variance issues to be aware of and it might come down to finding the right pairing. I kick myself for not buying the one I rented.

    I primarily capture wildlife video. I was considering the FX6. However, is there another Sony camera that you'd recommend over the FX6. I need to ensure the quality/bit rates are suitable for broadcast.

    What is the benefit of using a variable ND filter when shooting wildlife? When you use an ND filter, does it make it possible to shoot even though the sun's rays are harder?

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With video, the camera's shutter speed is generally going to be around double the frame rate. So because the shutter speed is going to be set at say 1/120s or 1/125s for 60p footage, and your ISO is going to already be at its lowest native setting, you kind of only have the aperture to control exposure. When it's sunny out and you're exposing at 1/125s, the aperture of the lens would have to be so stopped down that you run into problems with diffraction. Plus you lose the ability to make a creative choice about the depth of field. So with photography, there's the exposure triangle, but in video, it's more like an exposure square, with neutral density filters being the fourth method of exposure control. With the ND filter, you can now have full creative control over shutter speed, ISO, and aperture, because the filter is finalizing the look of the exposure instead of the aperture.

    Where did you get that grip mount cover shown at 1:54? My FX6 didn’t come with one and the body cap for the lens mount is too big to fit there.

    • @RyanMenseWildlife

      Some big trade offs that complicates things, but probably yes. Sony doesn’t really have an obvious upgrade path for the FS5 for wildlife and the clock is ticking.
