I love these kinds of sets so much, I can’t even use them! Sounds strange, but my OCD ‘won’t let me’ and gets super bad with things like this! 😂 if I were to use up one supply in there, it would gnaw away at me that I couldn’t get a replacement for it and if I could, it wouldn’t be from the set it came from. I wouldn’t be able to help but know it didn’t originally come from there😂 and just looking at the closed up box, would be a constant reminder of the replaced/used up supplies inside 😂and seeing half or even a little bit of a supply used up in there and not being the same as the rest like in how they came, would just completely bother me! Idk how many (cheaper) sets like this I have of art supplies that I have a hard time actually using. I have a cheap Crayola marker set I bought many years ago that I discovered was missing a single marker due to a packaging error before I bought it. I literally cannot use the rest of the set and it’s sat in my studio ever since. I have Fiskers craft shear and paper punch case set that’s got like 25 pieces in it that would have originally cost me $120 but got it on sale at a huge discount and since one of the punches broke, I can’t use the rest of the set. I have since let my kids use them and still have a hard time trying to make sure the pieces are still in the case exactly where they belong when you’re done with them. My OCD is so bad, I can’t even throw out the broken ones because if I did, there would be an empty space where it went and my brain wouldn’t be able to process that as being acceptable 😂🫠

@@Lacroix999 Oh my God ..I knew that living with OCD is difficult but I didn't know that things could go so bad .. I mean that's some extreme level problems u face . Hats off to u for dealing with such problems daily everyday ..
Just one question coz I'm curious ..
How do u actually draw in that case ?
Like when u pick up a crayon or something , don't u like get triggered because a piece is missing from the set ?
Or do u like not look at the set and avoid seeing it ?
I'm sorry I must be asking dumb questions.. Didn't mean to offend u or something as well!

@@PaintingwithAvipsa no, I just can’t use them 😂 my brother bought me a sumi ink set from Japan that he got when he was stationed there years ago. I have never used it, not even once. 😂 it’s strange because there are many things like this that gnaw at me and I HAVE to keep super organized and together, but other areas of my life and home aren’t like that. Like I have a SUPER hard time writing in a new notebook. If I do, I HAVE to keep it to ONE topic OR reserve that notebook specifically for random notes. When I write in them, it has to be with the same pen too. I have fountain pens and they have to be refilled, but I can’t put a different kind of ink in them because when I buy supplies like this, I have to purchase them together, like the ink with the pen it’s intended to be used with. If I order them together but they get shipped and delivered separately, I have had to learn to make due with the fact that I can’t control that and have to live with it. I have a hard time returning things as well so when I make a purchase, I have to commit to it more. I can’t throw packaging boxes out on expensive things. I still have the original boxes that my iPad, Apple Watch, Apple Pencil, my blender, and major appliances like that. I always think, “but what if I need them? Or need to return them because something doesn’t work right?” Which is weird because I can’t return stuff because it gnaws at me where it goes from there- is someone else actually using that because they resold it? Or is it sitting in a landfill somewhere and I caused that to happen?! 😂
It’s so weird that it’s so different for different things. I have a hard time mixing palettes of paints because they were purchased together and I categorize in my head when and where I bought different supplies and try to use them together.
It’s even worse if someone touches my stuff. I once bought an expensive pair of pants and once someone else borrowed them without telling me and I couldn’t wear them again! Not even after I washed them. I had to throw them out! 😂 someone takes my head phones and uses them, I can’t m, even if I clean and sterilize them because it’s just the thought that they have been in someone else’s ears that gets to me that I just can’t do it! In my head, all I’m thinking about was “but what if you didn’t clean them well enough? Those germs are in your ears now!” And it doesn’t stop until I remove them and so I just don’t do things like that any more. Its not even so much that I’m a germaphobe! It’s just the fact that someone else that’s not me has touched my stuff that get to me, almost more like a violation of boundaries more so than germs, like ‘that’s MINE, not yours, don’t touch it!’. 😂
It’s an odd compulsion that I can’t help, but on the outside, everything seems normal, but in my head, I just can’t unsee/unthink things like that. It used to be worse, but I have found that telling myself the world will not implode if I don’t believe what my head is trying to convince me of, so it’s a huge work in progress. But as far as art supplies goes, I have found that it’s better if I buy things individually and not in huge sets like this. I think it’s the fact that it is a set that drives me insane. Last year for Christmas, my kids got a bunch of games and I spent the whole entire day trying to keep track of all the pieces. It finally occurred to me that I was ruining the experience and the meaning of the whole day because of ONE missing piece I couldn’t find even thought the whole house was covered in wrapping paper and packaging messes 😂 with OCD, you don’t get to choose what you obsess over that’s why it’s hard to spot someone who has it. I can have a pile of dishes in the sink and it doesn’t bother me as much as having a compulsion to have to drop what I’m doing and search for that one missing puzzle piece or make sure the markers in the set are all accounted for or have to pick every last Lego out of the dirt pile I swept up off the floor and make sure it get to where it needs to go.
But, yes, if it’s a set, especially one that’s purchased together, I have a hard time using it. And if I ‘can’t’ use it because it sits on the shelf, it’s a constant visual reminder to me that that set is missing a piece. But honestly, for crayons, I have a whole stockpile of those and for this exact reason. For those, I HAVE to dump them into a caddy and use them from there. I have found that if I keep them in the box and put them away and notice one that’s missing, it gets to me. If it’s in a caddy, I won’t see if one is not there and it won’t bother me so much. However, even when the crayons get too small to use, I still have a hard time tossing them, so it’s not completely fool proof, but it helps tremendously to get around it so long as I resist the urge to count them and make sure they’re all there 😂😂😂 I have many boxes of ‘back ups’ on hand so when they do get dwindled down to not so many, I can just get a new box and dump those on there too. This works with things like cheap crayons, but it makes it harder for supplies that I don’t want to ‘mistreat’ like that and do keep organized. I have art supplies still organized in their original cases that I purchased in college almost 20 yrs ago and those need to be put back when I use them. This is easier for me to use those supplies still because I didn’t buy them as a set. Again, can’t control what your brain wants to process as needing to obsess over and I feel better when it’s not purchased together as a set even if I put it together in a set and have to make everything labeled and once it is the set I put it in, I don’t like to put it together into a different set. My brain needs to know where things are when I put them somewhere and that I will find them there when I go to get them. It makes living with kids even harder. Our youngest went through a period of just taking stuff. I’d set something down and he’d take it and be off in the other room before I even knew he was even in there to take it and it drove me up a freak wall because my brain would go into hyperdrive having it not be there when I came back.
I have a hard time moving furniture around for this reason and when we moved into our house some 8yrs ago, I had received a giant clock and had planned in my head where in our living room it would go. When we moved in, we put it somewhere else because it wouldn’t fit BUT in my brain, that clock ‘belongs’ on that one wall and I still look to that wall to check the time over looking to the wall it’s actually on. This also happens when moving stuff around. That’s some clock, spent 4 yrs being on one wall. I removed it to paint the house and put it on a different wall and I still automatically check the other wall it was on first and it’s been in a new spot for 4 yrs now😂 same thing when we moved in. I hung pictures on one of our walls. They were removed along with the wall (literally) about 4 yrs ago and when I look to that entrance was we put in instead, I can still ‘see’ the pictures on the wall where they were put even though they’re obviously not there. Those pictures I took down? Well, I can’t put them back up in a new spot because they ‘don’t’ go anywhere else except in the wall we took down and have sat on the shelf ever since 😂😂
I know that was way more than you asked about, but that’s just how my brain works.

      @@Lacroix999 Oh my God 😭
I just keep on realising what a complex organ the human brain truly is after hearing experiences like this ..
I seriously can't decide whether I'm awestruck or horrified hearing your story .. I can't even start to think about the number of mental breakdowns you must have had in your growing years , when you were still discovering what triggered you and what did not . You know I kind of feel like even I , who doesn't have OCD(hopefully) , kind of get accustomed to things like the clock on the wall example , as you mentioned ...Like when a clock or the mirror is shifter to a different corner of the room , I look for it at its previous spot for months .. But yes , the habit goes away after a while . But having that plastered for years , no never !
As for the art supplies , I can not imagine my broke self buying numerous crayons or pens or even colour pencils of the same nature so that I can replace them after they wear out 😭 ..
I don't know if anyone told you this but you're awesome ok ? Idk about others but atleast I myself couldn't have lead a smooth life having problems like that . Even more respect to you knowing that you're a parent who is trying so hard to raise their child ! I sincerely hope your condition gets better though (I don't know of it goes away , but keeping you in my prayers) .
I'm never ever complaining about my mundane life problems after this 😭

I never had any good art supplies as a child. As an adult, I treated new art supplies like holy relics. Then I began to go to estate sales and yard sales, and I would buy a LOT of art supplies. Some were slightly used, some untouched, and I realized the last thing I want to do as an artist is to leave behind a legacy of sparkling clean virginal art supplies, and instead leave behind art. And a lot of pencil stubs, empty watercolor trays, and ruined brushes. So what you have to, so long as you leave behind beautiful pictures. Cheers.

This small cabinet with drawers is very easy to manufacture. It makes me want to do some kind of imitation for myself, for my drawing materials and for my sewing and embroidery materials, because that's exactly the style of furniture I have in my studio. I never buy a set; it would be a waste because in the sets there is always something that does not interest me. More particularly in the large ranges of colored pencils, there are many very close nuances. In addition, I need to vary the brands, my graphite pencils are not all Faber Castell. I have Lyra, Derwent and Faber Castell, they are all very good. In any case, it is a very beautiful cabinet.

I have the Watercolor pencils box with all the pencils and I use them. I can't afford to have them just to look at them! But I did transfer the ones I didn't have double to 3 tisue things for pencils. I feel guilty too when using them because they are so beautiful! My latest purchase was the matt pencils box! Just by thinking of them my fingers itch! 😀😃🙂

What a gorgeous set of works ❤️ I hope they have an opportunity to be framed and displayed together.
You could still use the items in the beautiful box, you could always replace the pieces that are used 😊

Faber Castell didn’t hold back when creating this masterpiece set of their best drawing and coloring products. Thanks for sharing it. You’re a fantastic artist! It’s kind of too bad, though, that you said you wouldn’t use them. I understand that, because when I get brand new products, especially the more expensive ones, like my recent purchase of a set of 40 Caran d’Ache Luminance color pencils, (I have a good size set of Polychromos too and really like them.) I look at their beautiful packaging with the pencils lined up perfectly….all the same size in original color order and sitting very securely in their foam cradles and I don’t want to use them. But that’s what I bought them for..to be used. So I’m getting over that “they’re too precious to use” problem and enjoying them for the quality and beauty of their color lay down and blending. So maybe one day you’ll be able to use that fantastic supply, that despite its beauty and that it’s like a “work of art” in itself, that you’ll also use them because they’re also an art supply that was made to be used. 😊

Well, each pencil is a few US$, I know it's an European brand but putting all those together(not to mention that state of art box) I believe it's all worth that much. Not for hobbies. For professionals, good professionals.

I just discovered something to help you with your mechanical eraser. Treat the eraser like a pottery wheel and you can shape the tip into a tiny point. 👍🏼 just discovered this so I went to comment on the first video i found for you.
