I think the reason why, the hero is a Brahman is because the director wants the audience to look at someone who is one of them and who still chooses to do the right thing. The down trodden already know what is being done to them but the upper-caste is the one that is quite blind to the stark reality.

If Bollywood wants to see films made on caste, then they have to give opportunities to people belonging to so called “lower” caste to make films. Some of the best anti-caste films I have seen like Pariyerum Perumal, Sairat has been made by people belonging to caste who have seen and suffered discrimination for centuries. Only they can make those stories real because their experiences are real.
Give accessibility and opportunities to people belonging to Lower caste to tell their stories.

Anupama, there is nothing called "Reverse Discrimination". Discrimination can only happen when you have the political power and economic resources to monopolise which you then use to marginalise another group. Discrimination is power play so at best a lower caste can be prejudiced (even that is a HUGE stretch) to an Upper Caste but can never discriminate against an Upper Caste. Also, Ayushmann sports and Bollywood in India in a way are exclusive. Cricket has been an Upper Caste sport and so have films because many people from the marginalised communities lack the resources needed to make it in these fields so saying it's only "merit" is wrong

Just call a spade and a spade- don’t refer to them as downtrodden or oppressed. Also how many of the top actress and actresses are of lower castes. The film industry also needs introspection. I don't think he claims that he knows everything about the caste divide or that he can fully understand what it feels like to be oppressed and have that completely unjust yet ever so powerful shadow of forced inferiority loom over every aspect of your life, and justly speaking how could he? He's been privileged all his life as he states himself and that's not something to be ashamed of, he has done no harm to anyone on the contrary he's trying his best to become more aware and spread awareness amongst others as well, and the fact that we're discussing this means it's already working! So my point is don't be so fast to judge someone who's trying his best to do whatever good he can when others are and have been silent for decades. He's not trying to single-handedly solve this issue, nor can he ever do, but he's trying to bring it forward fot discussion since awareness is always the first step in solving any problem.

If a Race 3 can make 300cr and a Judwaa 2 makes 200cr, and this film doesn’t touch 100, what kind of film do you think they’re going to produce next?? If the audience puts their money behind content driven films, then that’s what producers will naturally back. It’s purely logistical. 1:58 THANK YOU Ayushmann for calling out everyone’s role and participation in ignorance to caste discrimination. So often people like to convince themselves that only Bollywood ignores it, when in fact the average “middle class” urban Indian does it just as much. It’s time for EVERYONE to wake up and look in the damn mirror.

Bollywood is far from real life...
they just don't want to make realistic movies..
Commercial Hindi movie makers underestimate the audience as dumbo .
Nowadays they don't want to include any middle class characters in the stories too.
Film makers like Karan Johar , Rohit Shetty and all should be banned for the crapp they are making..

No doubt what Ayushmaan is doing is breaking hero stereotypes but what he said about the autobiographical work of Omprakash Walmiki Joothan is totally wrong. The events in the book take place in Muzaffarnagar Uttarpradesh, not Bihar. He was not even confident when he was talking about it.

Well..I appreciate Ayushmann Khurrana finally becoming aware of caste violence and inequalities in India. But its also important to understand that Bollywood has mostly been populated by savarna castes because of their social/cultural capital and who have the privilege of not facing caste discrimination. When it is not their lived reality, how can we expect them to make caste a central theme in their films?

#Ayushman sir...Bollywood movies have always been dominated by upper caste characters...even their surnames...their brahmin identity has always been glorified as a hero..to name just a few.chulbul pandey, r madhvan's characters, Shah rukh khan's sharma surname, etc..always have been uppercaste surnames... is this not a biased view of the filmmaker?
Otherwise Article 15 is a great act ...looking forward to it....alll the best ...and Thank you as an #Indian citizen.

When u r being discriminated you need to get up and fight for yourself be it around caste, colour, age, gender etc.
