    Instead of a coat hanger, I prefer to use a 14" zip tie. It is flexible and yet sturdy enough to dislodge material blocking the evap drain. And, since it's hard plastic, it won't puncture the evap coil if pressed up too far.

    You the man-got the clog cleared in my Mustang. Odd thing was I heard a noise when I was accelerating. I thought it sounded like air releasing but I found water on the passenger side floor. This week's Click and Clack addressed clogged air conditioner drains so I found you when I Googled how to clear one :) The hose was a bit hard to find with everything jammed in under the hood but my husband just pushed on it and water gushed out.

    I recently had to replace the passenger side floor plan as it was rusted out and didn't pass inspection. I told the dealership that it must be from the AC drain or something because their hasn't been any passengers and they said that wasn't possible. I guess i'll do it myself, thanks for showing. Its really hard to find decent mechanics

I don't see a hole or anything to stick a coat hanger in to. Are we supposed to disconnect a hose? This is the only video on this and I can't find any other info. I have a 2016 escape S.

    Most all f150 ford trucks sooner or later will have this problem if you park under trees, I have had several that start getting the carpet wet on the passenger side, I just blow air up the drain for a quick fix, a wet/dry vac. with a small hose attached to drain would be probably a better fix....

    On my 2006 Ford Expedition I couldn't find the view your showing because of the transmission and numerous hoses and wires in that general area seem to block this view. One recommendation is to take the passenger side wheel off, the splash guard and a few other steps. Did you do all that off video?

    Hi, where can I find it in my 2014 Ford Fusion SE? I got my car inspected because the AC wasn't blowing cold air out anymore but was blowing air out. They did an AC Evacuate and recharge freon and added dye.
    I changed my cabin air filter and I thought that'll do but it didn't help the smell.
    So will using the coat hanger get rid of the smell? Someone told me to spray Lysol where the air flows or something like that, and put the heat on max until the smell is gone. I'm totally confused!!

  • @bowhunter65ful

    Okay, I have a Chevy Cruse. I get the musty smell, but I also get white vapor, coming out of the vents. The heat is really good, and the A/C gets cold. Could clogging cause the vapors? I'm not losing coolant, and there is no overheating.

    I find setting the system to re-circulate inside air, then spray Lysol into the air intake withe the fan is on low goes a long way toward eliminating the musty smell. I usually do this two or three time a year to all of my vehicles to keep the system smelling fresh.

    The only problem I have with using compressed air to clear the drain is the risk of blowing all that trash up and on to the evaporator coil and potentially restricting air flow over the coil. Vacuum and bottle brush are the best choices and compressed air should only be used as a last resort.
    If you have a cabin air filter in your vehicle, change it regularly as this will catch most of the junk and keep the drain clear.

    • @FordTechMakuloco

      Armand Tomany You only blow it enough to get the flow going then all the water backed up in there will flow out fast carrying all the organics with it. Its just enough to pop the plug.

    that little nub on mine is Dripping back into the insulation where the rubber grommets supposed to be my guess the rubber deteriorated what should I do what kind of sealant should I use for that rubber grommet instead of taking the AC apart... So it's basically working it's just ripping back into the car insulation I took some plumbers putty and placed it around it there's only like a quarter an inch to really work with I need to find maybe to put a pipe and put a rubber tube into the nipple And extend it with the RV sealant I'm not sure what to do because that nipple is part of the AC unit itself..

    Fordtechmak, sir I have a question I'm hoping u can help with. I have a 1999 f150 several years ago the AC stopped working. Air still blows just not cold air. 3 years ago I added r134a and the AC compressor began to engage and cycle. At this point I had cold air blowing. It only lasted a couple days and during those days I noticed a smell in the cab. I've tried researching it online and am now lead to wonder if the freon is leaking from something called the heater core which is supposedly behind the dash. I gather it's a lot of time to tear the dash apart and was supposed to hear something called a heater core would have anything to do with the AC but heard there are freon lines that run through it in some fashion. Any expert advice you can offer on this would be appreciated. I don't want to tear everything apart unless it's truly necessary. Or could it be a leak somewhere in the engine compartment? I'm leaning toward something in the cab due to the smell it makes in the cab. Anyways please help!! Thank you sir.

      +Jitom7 If the smell is indeed strong inside the cab but not under the hood you need to replace the evaporator for this concern.

    in my f250, I have a problem that it will blow very cold for a while then I will hear water dripping in the cab, very little outside and the air warms up. if I turn the truck off for a few mins and start it up water will pour out of the drain like a garden hose and it will blow cold again .. it seems like it is clear but picks and chooses when it drains out? I changed both the blend door motors and no change with the water drain issue..

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what year you have but it sounds like your evap is icing over and then thawing. You need to check and replace your metering device and also air flow over the evap itself if it is too little the evap face will ice up also. A faulty cycling switch can also cause this as it leaves the compressor on too long.

    Would a cabin air filter prevent clogs?

    How does having rear climate control affect this? My Mountaineer has individual rear climate control and pretty much all my condensed run off ends up about midway under the vehicle.

    Sir, I have an issue with my recirculation button. Basically, it works randomly. Most of the times even when is on still let enter air from outside generating a lot of condensation. And that is a huge issue here in Texas due the extreme heat. Do you know what this happen?

      It's intentional. Auto Mfgrs have to put a certain amount of fresh air into the cabin by law since the 70s.

    Where is this? I don't know anything about cars so without a walk to I can't look at a compartment and be like oh it's behind this panel

    I don't have water dripping on the foot compartment, but rather copious amounts of water pools on my interior vents when the AC is on. will this help fix that or is that a different problem?

      Dylan Knight According to the dozen videos I’ve watched, it’s the same problem.

    How do I access the drain hose on a 2004 explorer v6?

  • @TroutFink

    My evaporator doesn't drain. I'm in Colorado which is a pretty dry state but I'm still concerned. I've followed your directions to the T. The wire doesn't seem to do anything. It's like it has no port to get the wire through. I've also done the air compressor and high psi. Still there's nothing. Any suggestions?

      You can spray a bit of water in there with a garden hose and see if it drains out that will tell you. Is there any mildew smell?

    • @TroutFink
      @TroutFink 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +FordTechMakuloco No mildew smell as of yet. I will try the hose technique and see if that helps. Any suggestions if that doesn't work?

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +TroutFink I really don't think there is an issue here and the collection of the condensation is evaporating off in the bottom of the evap case. The water trick will tell us if we need to go any further.

    Can you show where the drain is on a 2019+ Ford Ranger? There are no pics showing where that is.

    Where is this overflow/drain tube on a 1997 Thunderbird? On older Fords,one can actually see the hose by looking underneath the car. My T-bird has a terrible musty odor whenever I use the vent or air conditioner. I had one shop spray Lysol in a vent,but all that did was mask one odor with another and NOT solving the problem.

    On our 09 fusion the water is leaking on both sides of the center stack where the radio is. I've put a long ziptie into the drain and was able to get it to go in about 8 inches or so. Any use if using the compressed air would fix this? I don't have access to a compressor but I'm sure I can find someone who does if this could fix it.
