  • Prof. Elovici is Head of the Cyber Security Research Center at Ben Gurion University Think of your typical day: you wake up, do your morning routine, open the fridge, maybe turn on the heat, boiler for the shower? Get in the car and drive to work. We hear the term Internet of Things get thrown around a lot and it seems as a society we are developing some sort of phobia from 'smart' devices. On the TEDxBGU stage Prof. Elovici will take us through a typical day just a few years from now and make us realize the power of connectivity, for good or - for bad. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

    I like how the fundamental problem with "smart" TVs is never addressed. I'm talking about the fact that they might not actually show us what we want to watch, but what corporations like Google or Amazon want us to watch.

      😂😂🤣🤣
      Companies are there for profits.
      And NOT for customers.
      That's why we should ditch all corporate stuff and build and contribute open source projects as a community, and use it.

    I learned a lot about IOT from this video and how IOT affects my daily life. I was interested in various machines using IOT, but among these machines, drones and self-driving cars were impressive.

    Great presentation! Just like any tool it has the potential of abuse by third parties. While I welcome the Internet of Things in general, manufacturers need to implement strong security measures & opt-in agreements to prevent abuse of the IoT devices.

    IOT is making computers strong and people weak .

    • @babylfsh
      @babylfsh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Computers merely follow instructions. In closed source, proprietary systems, computers follow only the instructions of the company that owns them. This isn't making computers strong, it's making proprietors (mostly corporations) strong, and by proxy, the government strong via PRISM.

    The problem with IoT is we can't keep track of things related to it. What's communicating with what. It'll end up in a big mess for us all.

    So a smart fridge is like having a limited iPad stuck on the front of your fridge? Has the worl gone mad? Also the smart TVs knows what we are supposed to watch? Not what we want to watch. Smh

    Increase Privacy by using user's Retina Scan, Fingerprint, Tongue and user's voice....Add extra security by using these capabilities humans are pocessing. Only user should have access to his/her data not the companies...We respect Apple's Idea of saving our privacy. Add limitations on these IOT devices. Add encryption to IOT devices to not share data to API's.

    It is a good research but puts the issues in a bad light I'd thought of again all of the issues that the speaker addressed have a immidiate solution which can be done on the software developer level and or on the manufacturer level I'd things are taking in a way that they will aide life and pro active work will be done on nullifying the negatives that the speaker reported
