  • Had an fantastic day euro nymphing on a freestone stream in PA’s Pocono Mountains. A first time for me on this beautiful stream and it didn’t disappoint. About 2O large browns to net and not one fish under 14 inches, including an awesome 22 inch beast. Saw bugs hatching all day. Olives in the morning, then Hendricksons, and in the late afternoon armies of Caddis. The flies of the day were a size 18 Stupid Simple Pheasant Tail, a size 16 blue krystal flash perdigon, and a size 14 Blowtorch.
    Tight lines and enjoy!

      I believe it is the best. It's really good. Cory knows and understands this style of fly fishing. I've scanned YT for several years; there is nothing like this material. If there is a channel with something better, it's hidden somehow because I would have found it.
      The west is loaded with good trout water but Cory has shown that the east has some equally good water; maybe even better trout water.
      Great "stuff" on this channel!

    This is one of the best euro fishing on TH-cam and I agree with the other poster of “Pretty decent day” would be a very memorable day for the rest of us. I also like that you sized your fish correctly compared to other posters of their “24+ inch fish” along reminding the viewers to put the fight to the fish and don’t kill them to lactic acid buildup. Your fish came to the net in great shape and you did not keep them out of the water to perform constant talking. Any fish of 6X can be brought in within a few minutes. GREAT VIDEO!!!

    That was a lot of big Brown Trout! Your tuck cast and drift is so smooth. Watching the caddis fly around was interesting to see. It's not too long before the cicadas are out, and that is going to be some interesting fishing.

      Thanks Nick! I’m using a Thomas & Thomas Contact ll, 10 ft. 2 wt. I personally like a fighting butt for a couple of reasons. One, it helps with balancing the rod (as does the down-locking reel seat). Two, it helps with leverage while fighting fish.

    Hi Corey. I continue to love watching your videos. I'm fairly new to Euro Nymphing and so far I'm loving every minute of it. I'm from southeastern PA (19464) and have mainly stuck to fishing the Tulpehocken and Little Lehigh. I know you're probably not up for divulging your secret spots, but I was curious if you may direct me to some other trout streams in my area that I could try out to broaden my horizons a bit. I'm willing to drive upwards of around 2 hours. With summer here, looks like I'll be hanging up the rod for a few months, but I'll definitely be getting out again in the fall. Do you do any smallmouth fishing or do you stick strictly to trout?

    Great video. Really like your approach to flies and techniques. You mention Pat Weiss’s Stupid Simple PT, but there is nowhere I can find that that fly has been described. Can you either give us a pattern description or maybe make that one of your excellent tying videos.

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much. Awesome that you know it’s a Pat Weiss pattern. I appreciate the compliment on my fly tying videos. I will do a video on it, but in the meantime here are the ingredients:
      Nature’s Spirit pheasant tail: Bleached
      CDL tail
      Copper bead and small copper wire for rib.
      Brown thread
      I use only 2 pheasant tail fibers to keep it thin. Wind the fibers up behind the bead and tie off. No dubbing. No thread hot spot collar. Just stupid simple as Pat says. I asked him what was his reasoning for it and he said. “It’s just something non-threatening with no weird colors to refuse”.

    • @leighs522
      @leighs522 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OldDominionTroutBum Just to be clear, are you using bleached PT or bleached CDL (which I've never seen). It is funny how what is old is new again.In the March 1981 issue of the old PA Angler magazine, columnist Chauncy Lively (one of my fly-fishing heroes) describes his Pheasant Tail Midge Larva (a typo in the title called it the Pheasant "Trail") . It was exactly the same fly, except no CDL (hadn't made it here from Spain yet, and no bead (not a "thing" yet).
      I think with the increased popularity of Euro nymphing techniques and the immense pressure on fisheries in Central PA especially, many of the best anglers, like Pat Weiss, are moving to more drab flies, ones where there is less for the trout to find fault with. Josh Miller (TroutYeah) ties his Walt's Worms the same way; no flashy rib, no hot spot, not even Antron in the dubbing mix. He's "de-Sexied" the Walts Worm to even less than Walt did on the original (Walt used Hare's Ear Plus dubbing, which has Antron blended in).

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@leighs522 It is Bleached Pheasant tail. Sorry for the confusion.
      That's the exact reason why I have drab bugs as well. My drab bugs are plain PTs, plain France Flies and plain ole drab Walts worm like Josh's. I use them on clear water conditions or if I am at a super pressured stream or just not having the luck that I think I should be. Funny when you break out the "unsexy" stuff how your luck can change.
