- David (Dennis Weaver) takes refuge in a phone booth in order to call the Police. During the call, the crazy Truck driver catches up to him & flattens the booth.
From Duel (1971): David, a businessman, passes by an old tanker truck in a dessert while travelling for a meeting. The driver of the truck is a psychopath who finds David's overtaking offensive and decides to kill him.

I always felt bad for the woman in this scene. She simply falls victim to a serial killer who wants a red car as a trophy.
Yup, but now she's a witness to what was happening to the car driver.
Fun fact: the license plates on the trucks bumper a theorized to be all the cars plates that the truck has taken down
I always thought that car was orange
@@dariajames6200 That is a pretty good theory, but if I remember correctly during that time, semis had to have separate license plates for each state they travel in.
The truck driver wanted another license plate for his collection.
Ive been a truck driver for 9 years and still have'nt driven a truck with a air horn that sounds as good as this one.😢
I recently found out that this scene was shot in one take. The plan was if the stunt coordinator (Carey Loftin) didn’t see Dennis escape the telephone booth before a stake in the ground was out of view of the grill of the 281, then Carey would abort to the left. Surprisingly, it all happened in 1 take with no retakes at all. Dennis managed to escape the booth before Carey even reached the stake. A bit risky but, makes for a great shot.
Edit: I just found out that the lady in this scene (Lucille Benson) played “Mama Coltrane” in the Dukes of Hazzard episode “Mrs. Rosco P Coltrane”
2:10 the truck went all Maximum Overdrive with the speed, horn sound, & chaos.
She was so happy when he said she could put whatever gas she could get in the tank.
Yet so miserable when he asked to use the phone! She just wants paying customers !
When Dvds first came out it was a hobbie of mine to go into a store and find one that I never heard of or seen. Found this and loved it. The stunt driver of that old Truck was a legend.
This is the most wonderful movie of all time
My dad's always been a truck driver and he's always loved this movie. I remember watching it with him a lot as a kid. He always laughed his ass off at Dennis Weaver freaking out in the movie lol. Man it's been a long time since I've seen this. Wasn't this one of Steven Spielberg's first movies or something?
Correct. In fact, if you look carefully in a couple of the chase scenes; you can see someone not quite framed out in the back seat of the Valiant. That's Spielberg living the experience. You can see the entire sequence in the DVD extras.
If you look closely, you can see Spielberg's reflection at 1:12 in the booth window. I like how the tension is ramped up in the film. I did feel sorry for the little coyote on such a short chain.
nice catch!
I'm glad people still appreciate this movie
Poor guy talk about having a bad day
One of my favorite scenes in the movie
You know, seeing how close the truck was to ramming over David when he noticed, I'm surprised that he was able ti make a quick action and escape the phone booth just in time, rather than just standing them, accepting fate and starring at his imminent demise while screaming like aol of the other casualties in some horror movie.
According to Carey Loftin, the truck driver, he and Spielberg had a marker placed so if Weaver didn't exit the booth in time, Loftin would veer to the left. They did the shot in one take.
@@jamesdrynan Interesting
Great childhood film.
Cameras where big and heavy that time, had to do heavy work to move camera like that. Good movie
Look up ~ "Duel (1971) - A Conversation with Steven Spielberg" ~ here on TH-cam and Spielberg goes in detail about the making of the TV Movie !
I will always remember how this Truck Horn from this movie, became so iconic, it was used as Stock Sound….This is it’s Origin Vehicle
I watched this with a good friend growing up. Good times.
I remember this movie. We talked about it at school the next day. " Did you see that movie last night?".
Spielberg put a killer on the interstate 4 years before unleashing a predator in the ocean.
Gotta take me granted. I love!
Well Richard Matheson did, but Spielberg filmed it.
Spielberg's filmmaking debut
With such a meaningless movie
Being the guy in the red car, at some point wouldn’t you turn around and go home? Lol
Whatever meeting he was trying to attend wasn’t gonna make it on time if he wanted to
@@johead8516maybe he didn’t want to lead the trucker to his 🏠 and family!
@@Guitarist888Theres routes and highways that cars can go that trucks can’t.. wether it’s low clearance over passes or steep incline grades, I don’t think he would have a issue getting away and going home
Can’t continue on a highway which is trucks domain…
I wondered for the longest time if the truck might have been possessed
Serial killer. We do see someone get out, but they keep their identity hidden. Thus the nature of Spielberg movies.
Yeah, somethings you some scenes you can see a hand on the steering wheel or a full person
It would have been really eerie and creepy if they never showed a truck driver's hands or boots
I felt sorry for the old lady. What you was what she lost. Her fortune.
I feel so bad for this lady 😢
That was a scarey movie. Dennis weaver was great in it.
Scary or funny with no meaning? Crazy that a truck is so speedy 😂
@@dhritimansharma660The truck driver was absolutely nuts!!!
Man, this is a good movie
I think that this is the point in the movie where I want the truck driver to die
1:12 There is the camera assistant at the glass of the phone booth 🙃
I've read that it's speilberg himself
So like Hitchcock he cameos in his own picture! 😂
Um dos primeiros filmes que assisti me emociona até hoje
Filmaço
I Love you Dennis Weaver
Isn't that McCloud?
Road rage pro max
On 1:40
Truck driver: Oh so you want to call the police on me?!
Later on 2:10
Truck driver: well I’m gonna to go full on maximum overdrive on your ass!!!!!!
Mah snakes, I gots to find mah snakes!! Hoooooonnnnnnkkkkkkk.
😅
Still didn't understand the story
He was being chased by a truck!
No real reason. He passed the truck that was going slow, and then the driver started hunting him. A road rage...but really a dragon vs a knight errant story.
YIKES!!!
Wonder what ever happened to that cyotee
I hope the coyote was okay. It was innocent bystander.
poor fox
It’s a coyote.
Why is the truck driver after david mann he didn't do anything wrong to him
Watch the full movie. It’s awesome and available on TH-cam
Angry truck.
Osisis😢😢😢ks
1971truk
Oil truck 😳

2:14
Those poooooooorrrr ann-ee-mullllSS. :(
See christne yes white car
No animals were harmed in the making of this film!. Yeah right.
Why dial the operator instead of the police?
Because in 1971 that is how things were done. Technology hadn't come as far as it has now.
This movie Is based on a true account - with the red car the man is driving being symbolic of a particular man of a certain bloodline whom certain others of a different and very powerful bloodline, represented by the huge truck - want to harass as well as kill. Recall from the movie THE BEDFORD INCIDENT - a certain man saying that they were on the hunt for something whose code name was BG RED. BIG RED, and as indicated in that movie, BIG RED was and is a certain black man belonging to the bloodline of ZION.
Nut
@@redghost3170 You know there's another scene from this same movie playing on TH-cam - where the guy is stuck behind a school bus when the truck comes after him - where he says to the school bus driver something to the effect - "I know I might sound crazy - but..." - As said - this movie is based on a true story about activity going on in the real world by particular parties against certain others - and I know this for a fact. "AND AS I WAS WATCHING - I SAW THAT HORN (the ones in power) MAKE WAR UPON THE HOLY ONES OF THE SUPREME ONE - AND IT WAS HARASSING THEM CONTINUALLY." - Dan.7:21& 25
Sorry you haven't been privy to certain things going on in the world which only a few know about.
