Years ago when the tomato skin was as thick as a shoe leather it was helpful to cut an x for easy removal of the skin after blanching and cold water bath .
Have you ever had fried green tomatoes? They're very similar to fried eggplant. If you've never had either one you are missing out. Thanks for all the info, I've canned my own homegrown tomatoes & this will save me some steps. 😊
Howdy, thanks for the step by step video! My tomatoes are starting to come in, so I'll definitely use this in a week or two. From what I've seen, the X on the bottom is meant to make removing skins easier after blanching them. But the videos I've seen where they've done that, they didn't remove the core. So I assume one or the other will work? 🤷♂️
Ty so helpful ❤

That makes sense!
Great video. I have to pick up that tomato corer.
Thank you. It’s a great little tool!
Definitely freezing tomatoes this year!

Yes, they're delish! :)
What a great informative video. I’ve been taught to cut an ‘X’ on the bottom so going to eliminate that step this year and see what I think.
If you remember, come back & comment if you notice a difference. I’m curious to know what the difference is if there is one! 🙂
Cutting the x does help with peeling later. But once frozen and thawed, it’s really not hard to peel them.

That’s what I was thinking. As long as there’s a break in the skin somewhere, it’ll be easy enough to remove the skins, and coring provides that.
Great video! About how long does it take to flash freeze?
Thank you! I usually go overnight.
If you water bath your tomatoes, the skins that you take off, can you dehydrate them also.
Yes! 🙂
Thank you for letting me know so many years I’ve been thrown them out that’s gonna be a game changer.
