Have had suspicions that this was the exact reason for no direct response in Ukraine. Think the US takes china much more serious than Russia and are concerned of getting caught up in Ukraine, that china would use the opportunity and the US wouldn’t be able to focus full attention there

Nice try. For people who choose to blindly deny the reality, Taiwan s official name is and always has been the Republic of China. This island is currently occupied by a u.s backed government originally escaped mainland following their sounding defeat in the 1940s. Just because the u.s wanted to carve it away from China, you can’t bluntly take away the fact this is China all along. The main land government is not keen to destroy it like Ukraine but the u.s would never allow peace and that has lead us to this point. And I highly doubt China will go away quietly this time.

Through that scenario, Europe is destabilized, there is a global food shortage and famine and the West and NATO will be economically and militarily stressed.

@John Brower Land attack missiles are an opening move, but are not a crippling weapon. Russia has launched upwards of 2,000 of them in the Ukraine conflict so far, which has had little effect on their war fighting ability. They can be useful to open up a window for your aircraft to put sustained pressure on, but they are extremely expensive and only exist in small numbers, so they can only be used sparingly.
The US doesn’t need land based missiles, they wouldn’t be able to employ them well in a Taiwan conflict. They would be using air launched or sub/surface vessel launched cruise missiles. It’s not like the launch platform really makes a difference, a missile is a missile.

When China wants to cooperate with a small asean country, the US and Australia say: that’s dangerous. China threat. When China wants to unify taiwan due to historical issue , peacefully , the US and Allies say oh no! Dangerous. Let me sell weapons to Taiwan and defend Taiwan.
So sometimes I think … maybe the world is just used to US hegemony or colonization. China is just one of the few countries that say no to the US and has its own way of dealing things. And US and its Allies have been demonizing China ever since.
    😂
Is it because China’s current government is not pro-US , that’s why ? Don’t talk about system and democracy. True democracy is about people. Just ask people in China on how they feel about the governance. Plus US is ally with Saudi Arabia .. a not so democratic country.

@David Alvarez I’m currently in Shanghai. I saw some negative posts about the lockdown. I’ve been in lockdown since April 1.
      1. I am fully aware that the lockdown has flaws when conducting it. It’s not properly prepared. So the first couple weeks, people don’t have enough food handed to them. HOWEVER you could still buy stuff from group buying. Each neighborhood has some giant buying online chat groups where some one posts a source and asks if anyone wants to join to buy. People can pay to that person and buy. It’s just personal individual purchase was restricted.
So I never had a problem getting food.elderly might have some trouble buy stuff online. We have volunteers to help them.
The government starts to hand food and necessities to people for free, including meat, veggies, milk and eggs. However it’s not frequent. Like once a week. So a lot of people complained. So now, as Shanghai is still in lockdown, we have food handed to us from the government sooo frequently. Like every 2 to three days. And tbh I don’t like that cuz we are busy group buying Pizza Hut , hotpot and no appetite for plain veggies and meat.
The lockdown had flaws due to lack of preparation and the fact that China is a developing country.
No matter how glamourous Shanghai is, the lockdown revealed its weakness. Some corruption at the lower level of the community… also each neighborhood has juweihui which is a group of public servants working for the community. My neighborhood has over 1500 families … but only 6 public servants working for the neighborhood. They need to organize Covid tests and distribute food. Unbelievable.
      So there were many volunteers.
I know some neighborhoods are in bad bad situation because of the corruption of the civil servants on the lower level. They forbid group buying and the food government gave couldn’t be distributed to the people due to the corruption. But these neighborhoods are not as many as the majority “ happy group buying “ ones. We can group buy hot pot, pizza, crabs, Michelin steak , cakes… so many options
Many Shanghainese think the 0 Covid policy is crazy and absurd, yet many support it. Because China’s medical system is very fragile.
Despite the hardship and uncomfortableness the lockdown has brought to Shanghainese people, We are not that suffering. These days, I’m just very bored. Getting paid and getting bored.
Of course I can only represent many neighborhoods in Shanghai, not everyone. Some may have more bad experiences than others. But if you go and ask a Shanghainese randomly, the answer you get is least likely to be starvation, but more like boredom.
I asked some people why they scream or beating bowls and dishes when they live in such fancy apartment over 2 million dollars. They said they felt unfair that people in other neighborhoods received more food than us. So screaming can attract more attention and thus get them more food…
The central government is loosening the policy now and Shanghai is said to be open ( at least partially in June ).
So what you see in media might not be the real story or the whole picture. There are always people who are unhappy about the status quo or policies. No government can make everyone happy. Like my police friend in Hong Kong support the government because he puts safety and stability of the people first. He feels if there’s chaos everywhere, there’s no freedom or human rights to begin with.
I have never been to Xinjiang. But I have couple of friends from Xinjiang. They seem very happy and kind. One of my high school English teacher is Uyghur and he became a popular online English teacher and making millions.
One of my friends from Xinjiang told me there were terrorist attacks in Xinjiang, killing Chinese and mild Muslim Uyghurs. After the military came in, it’s a lot safer. ( what I said is totally true. )
You ask me if I ve ever been to Xinjiang Hồng Kong or Shanghai. I’d ask you to go to these places and see with your own eyes. Media tend to report the negative things. For a place like China , that is not pro - US, some negative things will be More likely to be exaggerated or fabricated. The best way to know this country and think critically is to go there ❤️
In China we have a saying: water can float a boat, but also can turn over a boat.
If the CCP is really doing a bad job governing the country, do you think it will still be stable and in country in China ? Chinese people are not blind. In fact, China has the largest tourists in the world. We’ve seen the outside world and we compare. It’s not easy to brainwash Chinese.
Ordinary Chinese people don’t care who’s in charge, what kind of political system is this. What they care is to be able to find jobs, make money, start a family and live a good life. Take a look at the GDP in China recent years. It has improved greatly in three decades. People’s life quality have been greatly improved. A lot of Chinese people approve what CCP does for the people.

I don't agree because Mainland Chinese people lack agency and personal autonomy. All power in China has been arrogated by the CCP. It decides what Chinese will learn, how they will think, how they will react to changed circumstances, how they raise their children, what housing options are available to them, how they score on the Social Credit system, etc. Mainland Chinese are having their passports destroyed by their govt. in the latest policy change. So it is unlikely you will travel abroad again. China is a nation/empire in which the Rule of Law doesn't exist. The "rules" in China depend on the whim of CCP officials. That's why so many wealthy Chinese are getting their assets out of China and into the West. By the way, I have been to China six times and am married to an ethnic Han Chinese.

@Moni Penny The US has the biggest military budget in the world and has the most advanced military too. The only reason it doesn't engage in a conflict with Russia is because of nuclear war. The same point can be made for Russia and the other nations you listed. If the US is so weak, then how come those nations don't attack us? It's simple this country has nuclear weapons but also the US outmatches any of the countries you listed. Russia is having so much problems with a country that is right next to them, how are they going to deal with the US? Get real. You obviously know nothing about how a real world would play out. The Russian military is weak. They are having so much problems with a nation like Ukraine because they have US weapons along with Natos .what do you think will happen when they actually go to war with the US? Putin hides behind his nukes because he knows he doesn't stand a chance.
