  • After the sets on the Shinning burnt down and weather delays Empire started off behind schedule and it only got worse as time went on. This video covers that situation and the debate as to whether Lucas conceived Darth Vader as Luke's father as media suggests. This video is a prelude to our coverage of this film and needed its own behind the scenes video because it is so extensive.
    To continue to the film: • Star Wars, Episode V -...

    Tremendous research- there are a lot of images that I had never seen before. Love those original MacQuarrie paintings. Keep up the good work, I’ll be following with great interest!

    Although I'm not a big follower of the Star Wars franchise, I have seen the first six and I very much enjoyed your informative video. You kept me watching :)

    3:48 - Rough draft of the first early 70's Star Wars script, Luke Skywalker trains Annikin Starkiller, and General Vader is a totally different character. Also Annakin Starkiller in that draft was being trained with his brothers on Utapau by their father Kayne Starkiller till a Sith came to hunt them down.

    THe first hint is in the name. "Vader" is Dutch for "father".

    I was gonna comment this on your previous video, but I actually think it works better here:
    Star Wars(1977) should be viewed a bit like Halloween(1978). It's the first step of multiple canons, the only fixed point in all of the narratives. Halloween has about three or four different time lines. Halloween 1, 2, 4, 5...
    Halloween 1, 2, H20...
    Halloween 1, Halloween 2018, Kills, Ends.
    Similarly, Star Wars can be viewed as having multiple time lines. In one timeline, Vader in not Lukes father. In one timeline, Palpatine is destroyed for good in Return of the Jedi, in one timeline Palpatine somehow returns 😅 and those are just the movies. The EU/Legends have completely different time lines. So it's up to you as a viewer to choose your preferred time line/s. You can ignore Phantom, you can ignore Rise, you can ignore Book of Boba Fett. You can also embrace them while acknowledging their flaws. It's kinda all about why you watch it.
    My grandfather just loved the special effects, so that's why he showed it to us as kids, and we liked it because of the light saber battles. As I grew older I liked it because of the politics, now I like it for the diverse characters and world building. As it grows and changes,I do too.
    Whether Lucas originally planned it all out in the 1975 doesn't make much difference. His creative process and how he arrived at plot points is not inferior or superior to any one else's. It just is his process. And tha process has given us an awesome array of narratives and storyline that spans generations.

      Star Wars has no multiverse... Star Wars needs no multiverse.

    • @Comrade_Jason
      @Comrade_Jason 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @voiceofreason467 Well. It does. Regardless of what you think. The books and the movies have very different trajectories. If that's not a multiverse, I dunno what is.

      @voiceofreason467 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Comrade_Jason A multiverse isn't head canon, which is what you're talking about. A multiverse is a literal cosmology for how the overall universe is written. Considering g there has never been a narrative of characters hopping timeliness or transcending to other universes... then the answer to that is no, it doesn't have a multiverse.

      @voiceofreason467 so I read through my original comment, and realised I never called it a multiverse. So I'm not exactly sure why you commented what you did. Clearly your definition differs from mine, but a created world that has multiple, differing storylines that are not linear is a multiverse by the original definition of the word. If you're just looking at the movies/series, yeah, it's a linear story. But if you look at it from the POV of Lucas/Disney/Legends Authors, it is a multiverse with differing outcomes for the main characters. In one narrative, Luke becomes a hermit living on an island, in another, he gets married and has children.... that's kinda a multiverse by the OG definition:
      Coined by William James in 1895 in the sense “the universe imagined as lacking order, unity, or a single ruling and guiding power”; multi- + (uni)verse.

      @@Comrade_Jason Different timelines indicate the existence of a multiverse. That's how multiple timeline's work.

    No Luke's journey is the focal point of the original trilogy. Vader's is the focus of the prequels only.
