The 1920s was a mess, the shape was completely wrong and women wore more natural colors for the day, the black eyeshadow was more so your face could be seen in a movie. In the 30s 40s and 50s the eyeshadow I think was supposed to match your eye color.
Can you not be posting rude comments they did Their best and that’s all that matters so for you coming up and saying something rude affects them so stop
Mahek Ghelani I can say I completely agree. I actually walked into Ulta and asked if they had eye gloss and I looked through the entire store and they didn’t have it. If eye gloss is supposedly what defines 2010’s, why is it not common among makeup brands? Smh..
As a make up artist I find these 100 years of eyeshadow or lipstick or whatever they are covering to be inaccurate and badly researched. In particular the earlier periods. Wouldnt it be great to have the model with an accurate appropriate hairstyle, correct eyebrow shape and correct make up for the period and then the artist just adds the eyeshadow, thus giving the total look. Just suggesting.
You should start doing a separate look for 2010s and now. We're basically in 2020. 2010s should have been instagram glam makeup looks rather than gloss. Gloss on eyelids is a trend that hasn't even started yet. Not trying to be negative here, just constructive. I watch all your 100 years videos and love them but I often see that 2010s is just an excuse to talk about trends rather than what has actually been popular in the past decade.
Exactly 👏🏻 we're living in a time where trends and appearances are rapidly changing and improving. Having an up-to-date year (e.g. 2019) would have been so much more relevant
alot of you tubers don't add gloss to their looks. 2010 was the red lip like from adele. 2015 was the neutral looks. 2018 is the highlight and pop of colors and/or the unicorn trend. And adding in instagram. The 80's wasnt just about color. The 80s also had the cut crease with a smoky peachy makeup look. The 90s was grunge but also the matte makeup look. 1997 began to transition into the shimmery shadows especially pinks...the bombshell look. 2013/15 transitioned into instagram makeup along with neutrals and more recently pop of color. Or using highlight as shadow.
EYEGLOSS?! Are you joking?! You rarely see people wear eyegloss, only Instagram beauty gurus and models occasionally.... What about cut creases or a bronze-toned smokey eye smh 🤦♀️
1920s is definitely not right. Eyeshadow was applied like a half moon shape on your top eye, not like a cat wing thing. It followed the shape of your eye socket. You can look at literally any picture of a famous female celebrity and see it. The colours everyday people wore definitely weren't that dark, either. A lot of the darkness comes from black and white photos and getting a good contrast. I don't know if all of my comment is correct, but I love makeup history so I have researched this a fair amount. Edit: eyeshadow should match eye colour in the 40s and 50s definitely, probably 30s as well. That seems to have been way more common than matching to clothes from what I've found. So a light blue sweep for blue eyes, a light green for green eyes, and then usually purple or brown for brown eyes, but they didn't always stick to that.
Say what you want about the 80s, but you have to admit, ppl committed to their big hair, big sleeves, shoulder pads, and tons of blush and eyeshadow. My mama is an 80s girl and she taught me about brightly colored mascara. I love my blue and purple mascara and hope to collect more colors!
Im definitely a 90s girl, and we wore our makeup a little heavy.. tons of eyeliner, with matching mascara, and dont forget to curl your lashes...eyeshadow was brown and grunge, with red, wine, or red brown lipstick.. they were not on point for the 90s..☹ Take care
Most of the 20s women just wore power over cold cream or vanishing cream with lipstick and eyebrow pencils. Kohl eyes and lash beading was mostly for screen actresses.
They could’ve put that for 90s grunge since grungy makeup was sometimes dark, messy, and circular. But the raccoon eyes would also fit the 2000s cos MySpace emos existed
In the 1940s, especially during the day, eyeshadow was toned down to make the matte red lips pop! Get a light eyeshadow that matches your eye color for the day, add a hint of silver or gold for the evening! In the 1950s light or pastel eyeshadow shades were popular. In the 1960s white or blue-green was worn for "The London Look" or the "Mod" look, as seen on models such as Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton or Patti Boyd! In the 1970s pearlescent eyeshadows in earthy colors were popular, especially in peach or green tones, For the Disco look choose to go glittery, makeup in the Discos was meant to be seen! For a Punk look go black or shocking pink in an overdone cat-eye shape, everything was meant to shock the onlooker! The 80's really had one rule: OTT! Think you can wear 1 neon shade? Wear three! In the 1990s Eyeshadow was meant to add sultry definition to the eyes like Claudia Schiffer or Cindy Crawford, in contrast, Kate Moss defined the "Heroin Chic" look, with black or grey eyeshadow, meant to look as if you slept in it!
The 80s was much about nudes, browns and natural look without much eyeliner as it was about funky colours. Please check Victoria Jackson videos and Barbara Daly videos. They are on TH-cam and will give u a more accurate perspective on how was really the makeup in the 80.
is it just me or the model for the 50s.... LOOKS LIKE PRINCESS AURORA! Blonde hair, light eyes, fair skin, squarish oval face shape, plus when add the makeup it's literally Aurora :0
Why does everyone think the 80s was one big Missing Persons video? Want to know how we REALLY wore our makeup? Watch movies from the 80s. No one actually wore makeup that heavy and that bright unless they were in a Missing Persons or Berlin video...🤦♀️
The fact that they always mess up the 2010s makes me wonder how much of this is wrong and we just dont know it
Most of these are wrong, the makeup artist kinda sucks.
The 1920s was a mess, the shape was completely wrong and women wore more natural colors for the day, the black eyeshadow was more so your face could be seen in a movie. In the 30s 40s and 50s the eyeshadow I think was supposed to match your eye color.
hotdog water yes!! Shimmery white shadow was classic 90’s not “2000’s”
Trick question, all of it is wrong
Can you not be posting rude comments they did Their best and that’s all that matters so for you coming up and saying something rude affects them so stop
2010s was so disappointing. Eye gloss is definitely not what defines this decade's beauty trends.
Mahek Ghelani I can say I completely agree. I actually walked into Ulta and asked if they had eye gloss and I looked through the entire store and they didn’t have it. If eye gloss is supposedly what defines 2010’s, why is it not common among makeup brands? Smh..
I would definitely say the return of the winged liner and the life-changing mastery of eyebrows (definitely my cult) !
Agree. What about the nude eyes trend? The inner corner highlight? Using like 5 shadows in one look?
CC Copy Cat yeah and cut creases too
By the way, she didn't look that bad
They skipped the infamous cut crease
Omg exactly what I was thinking!
Just what I came down to comment!!!
Yes
Those make-up “artists” themselves can’t even do cut crease
Celine P samee I was like don’t event without it
2010’s is definitely not gloss. i would say it’s the cut crease.

I agree! And they never get the right models for such great times! You are so right about this
If one more 60s/70s model does the peace sign eye hand movement thing I will scream. The models do that in EVERY video.
RIGHT!!! That and the blow a kiss, Charlie's Angels pose, and some Disco move. Never fails. I should create a drinking game
CC Copy Cat Ah yes those too!!!
I was born in the 70's and my fingers were born locked into that pose. It's made wearing gloves and typing difficult.
Ikr

Deydey so true, they always mess up on the 2010s
Exactly 👏🏻 we're living in a time where trends and appearances are rapidly changing and improving. Having an up-to-date year (e.g. 2019) would have been so much more relevant
Glossy lids has started otherwise it wouldn’t be there
Glossy lids was like 2017. Where have you been?

Totally agree. I'd never heard of eye gloss until this video.
Me who had been wearing LIPGLOSS on the eyes since 2000s:Oh
tiptop 💀
They missed out the cut crease!

I thought it looked too pretty.actually they had very dramatic, chaplin like look.more like a mask then beauty
That wasn't grunge, plus you need to add heavy eyeliner in the waterline. (Black)
You’re right. Maybe they were just focusing on the eyeshadow, instead of the entire eye look? I noticed they didn’t include 1960s cat eye liner.
Im definitely a 90s girl, and we wore our makeup a little heavy.. tons of eyeliner, with matching mascara, and dont forget to curl your lashes...eyeshadow was brown and grunge, with red, wine, or red brown lipstick.. they were not on point for the 90s..☹ Take care
you could argue that the lower eye was so drawn out that the shadows need to account and match that
Most of the 20s women just wore power over cold cream or vanishing cream with lipstick and eyebrow pencils. Kohl eyes and lash beading was mostly for screen actresses.
Who else remembered the frosty lids and white shadows of high school 😂 our brow bones were looking ghastly!
I can’t believe they didn’t include the cut crease!
They forgot about the racoon eyes generation.
Lol thats totaly me 😂
They could’ve put that for 90s grunge since grungy makeup was sometimes dark, messy, and circular. But the raccoon eyes would also fit the 2000s cos MySpace emos existed
2010s should be cut-crease 2020s should be gloss...but actually they used vaseline to make glossy eyelids in the 1930s soo.....
I lived through the seventies and eighties. Blue eyeshadow was popular in the seventies. In the eighties, earthtones and neutrals were fashionable.
Eye gloss actually is what defines the decade. That is the beauty trend in higher up places but not where normal people are.
Love the '60s look... and '90s is pretty too!
and of course the 80's look is best of all. As almost all things 80's :)
I know it's about eye shadow and not eyeliner, but still - Elizabeth Taylor and the iconic Cleopatra cat eye deserves a mention.
The model at 2:28 is beautiful 😍
Cut crease , anybody?
I NEED A TUTORIAL ON THE 80S LOOK! PLEASEEEE
Ok so do this video again but make it actually accurate.
20s model is so cheeky and cute, I adore her ♥️🌹
Im so glad the frosted look went away. 80s was fabulous 😂
Yall are always messing up 2010s
In the 1950s women wore matte pastels that matched there gowns. It was on the lid, winged and a little bit on the crease
Love 1920 eyes looks
Thank you
Allure for representing all different shapes, races, and eye shapes to this video. I love these videos
The gloss eyes was popular first in the 90s especially in the grunge scene
In the 1940s, especially during the day, eyeshadow was toned down to make the matte red lips pop! I wanted to see cut creases and drag inspired makeup!!!
I didn't know I was using the 1930s eyeshadow trend as my daily eye makeup (the only difference is I add a wing eyeliner).
2:29 her dimples are so cute Omg x
In the 1960s, the ‘twiggy’ eyeshadow look was very very in, but of course they put _this_ in the video
Beautiful models
The 80s one is unicorn 🦄
love the updated version!!!
As a era enthusiast I can say the 60s one looks more like 80s
Is no one going to talk about the fact that the 70's definitely did not do a no makup look, they did crazy blue eyeshadow everywhere looks
The 80's are by far the wildest!
2:00 what's the name of the model? She's stunning
i always seem to like the 20s makeup in these videos, idk why
The 80s was much about nudes, browns and natural look without much eyeliner as it was about funky colours. Please check Victoria Jackson videos and Barbara Daly videos. They are on TH-cam and will give u a more accurate perspective on how was really the makeup in the 80.
I love the first model
Did that 70s girl not know ANY disco moves? She was using dance moves from the 50s and 60s, ffs 😒
That move was only popular in the 60's. And that move was out by the time the 70's rolled around. This video is sloppy as can be on all counts.
The alternative of the eighties the trad goths, post punk, or punk where is that in the history of eyeshadows
Yeah that was iconic too. I thought the look was cool and fascinating.
1970s too that's when punk fashion started
模特们是发自内心的自信的笑,每个女孩都闪闪发光。
The girl al 4:16 is also beautiful
The 1930's girl is stunning
is it just me or the model for the 50s.... LOOKS LIKE PRINCESS AURORA! Blonde hair, light eyes, fair skin, squarish oval face shape, plus when add the makeup it's literally Aurora :0
The first girl was the most beautiful ❤
Fantabulous
This your time to shine, 1980s.
Early 2010’s was EYELINER heavy, then mid decade came the cut crease & many other trends
ok but EVERY foundation is too light for each person!
Not trying to defend, but it could be the lighting.
@@happyfacefries that might b true
I feel like just keep the 2010s out of these videos until maybe the 2010s are over
Omg Lovely 💖😊
You should do 100 years of a full face of makeup
This is the first time I'm the first person to comment
You missed the smokey eye.
P.S.: The eyegloss seems so uncomfortable 😲
can you do 100 years of film indutrie makeup ?
3:14 подскажите музыку
When you say 2010's , you are suppose to mention Smokey eye, cut crease and Huda Beauty.
I liked your eyes 👁
Love these videos!!
1:00 is it me or does she lowkey look like Ariana Grande? Reply your thoughts. Xx
Am I the only one that has never heard of 'Eye gloss'?
Nope. I hadn't heard of it. And I definitely do not live under a rock.
2:30 what a beautiful women 😍😍😍 #Melanin❤❤❤💛💜💜
*Cut crease has left the chat*
how do you guys always find the most beautiful models?
The 1980s eyeshadow looked a lot like what Mrs. Wheeler wore at the pool in Stranger Things.
Short hair makes me feel like a boss

Why does everyone think the 80s was one big Missing Persons video? Want to know how we REALLY wore our makeup? Watch movies from the 80s. No one actually wore makeup that heavy and that bright unless they were in a Missing Persons or Berlin video...🤦♀️
If someone paint me like this, I will finally wear makeup!

Not everyone will get this, but if you do, finish the song in the comment!

You should do 100 years of piercings
Amazing
1930😙😍✌👌
Can I block Allure so I dont get tempted to watch another 100 years of something poorly researched and done?
Probably one of first 50 atleast?
how are you gonna do a 1960s eye look and not even mention the babydoll trend? half of the look was the eyeshadow
*very cool*
