This Captain is a very good man and great Captain. I know he feels guilty about it, but it wasn’t his fault and he did great considering the high pressure situation. Thank goodness for the other Captain on the flight to join the crew. They displayed great life saving team-work. Remember folks, many other crews that came into this same situation or similar were understandably confused and panicked, and in many cases crashed. This makeshift crew did a fantastic job saving the day under extreme surprise pressure and panic. They kept it together and worked well together each taking vital roles in saving this plane and passengers.
What an amazing pilot, the plane is in 3 parts in a middle of the woods and out of 129 passengers only 8 serious injuries' and everyone is alive and fine. I bet he was the happiest pilot ever.
It’s because it’s based off true events and they don’t embellish the story for views or plots like they do in movies. When something is close to the truth and it could happen to any of us, we get sucked in.🤣🤷🏻♀️
@@ThatGirlLib oh they absolutely embellish this show, it's just well done enough that you might not notice it. It doesn't encroach on the facts which makes it not an issue in my book.

Well, that ended abruptly! Ice came off the wings, into the engines and caused compressor stalls. Excess fuel in the engine due to the stall explodes and blows the engine apart.
I have always, ever since I first heard of this incident, been confused by how an experienced pilot of jet aircraft did not recognize or understand a compressor stall?
@@tomhubbard7053, in the latter half, it is explained the captain reduced power and a feature the company had installed, unknown to any of their pilots, put the power right back up again, causing the destruction of the engines. Sweden is so practical, well educated and such a well run country that it is somehow not surprising that their worst air disaster involved no fatalities.
Falling 1200 feet per minute, both engines failing, the immediate action should be returning back to the airport. Great job by these pilots for saving the passengers and crew
De-Icing will last for about 25 minutes then must be de-Iced again. If the de-Icing is done at the gate, then this is a very dangerous procedure, de-Icing should be done closer to the runway.

Right now I'm at work and my tea cannot steep fast enough, because I am FREEZING. Again.
The pilot was a hero and it’s sad and totally not a surprise that the Crash Investigators and Airlines are trained to find a way to put the blame on the Captain and his crew. Just completely pathetic
Had I been the lead pilot as soon as we approached the tops of the trees I would have ordered Capt. Von Hombörg to return to the cabin in to secure himself. At that point there was nothing else he could do in any event.
Why is the episode cut off? You also cut off the end of the Gimli Glider episode the other day, finding out what happened is a massive part of the story...
The cause of this one was due to clear ice build up on the wings that the de-icing couldn’t get rid of. It was too much, and the flexing of the wings loosened the ice launching it into the engines.
