Hey, i don't get one thing, why does he wait to skip the dialogue when talking to monks? Wouldn't it be faster to just skip it immediately, saving time?
You would think so yes, but for some reason, it's actually slower. The fastest way to gain control of Zelda outside of the shrine is to skip the monk's dialogue after his dialogue box fades away. Otherwise, the loading screen is much longer than the time spent waiting for his dialogue to fade.
I think I’ve seen other runners talk about this. If you skip immediately, the game unloads the outside environment and then loads it again. If you wait to skip, the environment doesn’t unload and you can get outside quicker. Runners have timed the difference between skipping immediately and having a long load time vs waiting a few seconds then getting a short load time, and waiting is actually faster. Counterintuitive, but y’know Edit: I should have waited until I watched the whole video before commenting whoops lmao
I can’t believe no one has explained this yet but it’s actually quicker to wait until after the lines from the final dialogue box disappear. This is because for some reason if you skip the last dialogue box before the lines from the concluding dialogue box have chance to fade away the load to exit the shrine is a lot longer than if you had waited to skip the terminal dialogue box after the lines from the endmost dialogue box had a chance to disappear and overall causes you to gain control of blonde twink much faster.

This is my first encounter with this Tomatoanus guy, and I wasn't disappointed. Let me tell you about how it went: First off I was just curious to find a half decent explanation of what the BOTW any% speedrun looks like since I'm a huge fan of the game, and I only kinda understand what's happening when I watch footage. The thumbnail of this video wasn't terrible so I decided to check it out. As I started watching the video I went down to the comments section. I'm on mobile, so watching the video and reading the comments throughout are something I do often, it's just satisfying. Before the run really even started I saw the pinned comment about not knowing the character's name and I thought to myself, "Yeah he probably slips once or twice but I'll let it slide." That proved to be inaccurate. About the first 7 minutes of the video I genuinely thought this guy had no idea what he was talking about and almost decided to find a different video but I kept watching. A few comments farther down I see someone asking about why the speedrunner always waits to skip the monk dialogue until the end, and I began to wonder myself. I hadn't quite got there in the video yet, but luckily a friendly (and probably also naive) commenter answered the question and once again I thought to myself, "Wow this guy really doesn't know what he's talking about, that seems like really useful information." Just a few moments later I heard Tomatoanus himself explain why the speedrunner didn't skip the text and it seemed odd that I would have read a comment about it. I shrugged and kept watching. At this point I was starting to like the commentary on the video despite its mistakes (calling Link "Zelda" and so forth) because of its humor. References to Spongebob, the iPad, and telling us that Santa was going to reveal himself as the ghost of Christmas past started to redeem this guy in my eyes, and I really started to enjoy it. When Tomatoanus repeated himself about the monk text is when I finally caught on. I laughed at myself for taking so long to get a grip on the satire, and the dry humor was really ramping up so I focused in a bit more to catch every word this guy said. I finally realized a bit better where this guy was coming from, and remembering comments from the beginning about how Razen himself reviewed the script gave me a real retrospective chuckle. I even about laughed out loud at a few moments. Thus this guy's credit was fully restored by this moment, and even became amplified when I heard him start addressing suicide. I've lost some people close to me on that specific account and I was extremely grateful for the remark. At this point I found myself almost all the way through the half hour video and I frankly didn't want it to end. The surprises that accompanied this experience were so delighting that I really wanted it to keep going. But all good things must come to an end. On that note I'm really looking forward to the 100% speedrun commentary, and I'll even subscribe to make sure I don't miss it. TL;DR - I thought this guy was an idiot for mistaking Link's name, but the opposite ended up being true.
