When he's talking about these groups, I don't see described what I see as a parent of teenagers and a teacher, where half of a friend group is now identifying as trans or queer, where many of these kids aren't telling their parents or necessarily getting any help or clinical treatment at all, but may be insisting at school and among their friend group to have a change in pronouns and name. It is not small numbers of kids.
yes, kids doing nothing via hormones or surgeries to themselves, so no harm as far as I can see -- -- the daughter graduated H.S. last spring -- had in her friend-group a straight male who chose "They" to show solidarity with females + anyone else back in #TFG times might switch back to he/him now in college; haven't heard; won't ask (tho' the wife might if the friend group meets, say at this coming Christmas Week) a H.S. kid we know at church tried out claiming "Non-Binary" in #TFG era, but has moved to a slightly butch feminine style in Junior year -- probably to she/her again if asked; I won't
( as to the "trauma-caused" idea at ~22:00, that seems to be J.K. Rowlings' jumping-off point -- she has written that she would have called herself "trans", if it were an option back then, just to get out of her awful childhood as a girl -- her trauma was enough for her to ignore her actual staight female nature, she says, if she had the option to end it As a girl-dad, I _believe_ she means well in trying to protect girls -- I also believe that if girls were already safe, decades-back, LGBTQI+ folks would be safe now too )
the moment Matt Walsh had on the Rogan- where he stated a belief that MILLIONS of kids were currently on PB, then it turned out the numbers out the numbers that exist for USA are less than 5000. (tho that is an underestimation)....is VERY telling when it comes to this subject. To Matts credit- he was willing to accept he was mistaken. Im watching ppl/ GC activists on social media discuss this subject & all the different threads of it, for 10's of hrs each week. And as a natural human trait, we get bored talking abt the same things ad naseum. The conversation progresses, naturally. "logic" is extended, til-toks are shared... due to the level of fear AND the sheer level of understandable urgency to find solutions... activists progress the conversation- oft times missing swathes of history to make sense of this in a neat manner. ppl want answers that are solid & can be gripped w both hands~
I think of gender as a secondary sex characteristic as expressed by the brain. Which I think covers what he said about both the correlation of sex and gender and the variability of how it actually develops.
How do you effectively explain the data, showing minute number of "socially-induced" transgenderism, to parents who are genuinely, seriously concerned about this going on with their "impressionable" child, whom they would literally die for. They're seeing their children potentially guided to a so far, very difficult life.
This podcast left me with a few questions. Your position on treating trans people was left out of the conversation completely. Are you for transition or against it? Guessing maybe it depends on which group you put them in one,, two or three. The topic of comorbidity came up, but I wasn't clear if you thought that comorbidity meant that transitioning would not be an option. Seems to me that simply because a trans person has an underlying mental disorder does not necessarily mean that they are not also trans. And how would you determine what comes first, the chicken or the egg? One other thing, does not having all the answers imply you don't treat?
You are three amazing people and seeing and listening you gives me hope for humanity. Thank you.
Fantastic discussion. A quality representation of a clinical psychologist. Thank you.

I see your point
