Hole doesn't always get the praise they deserve Live Through This was the album that finally broke them to a mass audience. Courtney Love's raspy voice hit the perfect mark on 'Miss World,' 'Doll Parts,' and 'Violet,' and though the band's sound began to evolve with 1998's 'Celebrity Skin,' songs like the title track and 'Awful' still had their roots in that undeniably gritty grunge sound and should be revered and acclaimed alongside the other luminaries of grunge

In the 'Violet' reaction Lex said Courtney's voice was "like a cigarette", and now she's "a pill caught in the throat". I feel like these are extremely apt observations. lol
Courtney Love gets a lot of hate from '90s music fans, but most of that is because she was Kurt Cobain's wife and so many people think she was responsible for his death. She's made a lot of enemies over the years, both within and without the music industry. It's sad that she's so widely hated and dismissed, considering the imprint she left on both popular and alternative music, although there's no denying that she always had some of her own peripheral demons and skeletons in the closet that have been difficult for her to shake off.
Love her or hate her, there's nobody else in the world like Courtney Love. lol

No, there is TONS of evidence, and way too much that doesn't ad up with the official story. Ive spent a lot of time looking into things and if one thing I am sure of in this life more then anything is that she was involved in his death because a divorce she would only get half and no one would have given her another look but being Kurt Cobain widow was extremely extraordinary for her. You should really look more into it before saying "unsubstantiated". Their lawyer, HER Dad, the Detective SHE hired, Frances ex husband, even Kurts MOM has said or eluded to her being guilty - and scary. people are petrified of her.

Sometimes when I hear new ones, I think, "Oh, she knows people like her to say these out-there things and so she is just coming up with nonsense to entertain us."
And then she explains the metaphor and it is not nonsensical at all. No way she could make these things up on the spot and explain what she means if she didn't really think in these terms. I want to see a map of Lex's neuronal pathways next to the average person's. I am certain she has a kind of processing genius.

Hole gets a bad name from 90's music fans, but their "Live Through This" album is a genuine classic. Both "Violet" and "Miss World" should have videos for you to check out if you are interested in pursuing more from them, although I personally feel that "Softer, Softest" is the best track on the album. If you are interested in other Riot Grrl type acts, "Shitlist" from L7 and "Bruised Violet" from Babes in Toyland are both good choices. For an interesting alternate take on 90's female grunge, you can check out "Love Your Money" by British act Daisy Chainsaw....it's something!

Maybe , a record producer put the band together and capitolized on the fact that Courtney Love was Curt Cobains wife and maybe even used some of Curts writings/songs and rode the Grunge wave, But Hole has 2 great albums...but I suspect they were not the "brainchild" of Courtney , she was just playing a part given to her by the best pros in the business....that is my impression

I really like her music. My buddy and I were at one of those "Paloosa's" in the nineties. The music was great, but then she started talking to the audience. She was obnoxious. We walked over to the other stage to watch a couple local bands until she finished.

Glad to see the Widow Cobain in action. Courtney wrote this song about Kurt, shortly after meeting him.

This song was written when she was dealing with substance abuse & depression
and it's really noticeable in her lyrics, because they were deep & depressing.
When you check out "Malibu" or the "Celebrity Skin" album because the music is more pop sounding
& not as depressing. I think the "Live Through This" album was written when she was also
dealing with the Kurt Cobain split-up and her & Dave Grohl's feud.

Addiction and self abuse is a tragedy. No matter who it's impacting.

    • @TattooedTownie
      @TattooedTownie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@Atheos B. Sapien She was still nominated. Sounds like she has more talent than most people.
And yes, you're catching on. Addiction is a tragedy, that I wish no one has to experience in their lives. Either being an addict or loving one. She could be a better person without the drugs and booze. Better mother, better musician, better actor, better fashion designer. To say she is without talent, while sweeping her issues under the rug, sounds like a large cry of jealousy.
Even while falling on her face, wasted and unintelligible, she's still Courtney Love, and is given another chance when she cleans up.
