  • Custom 3D-printed Keyboard! This was a difficult project for me since I knew absolutely nothing going into it. Big thank you to my friend for helping with the build and to PCBway for making it possible. Hope you enjoy it!

Hello, saw your video on my recommended feed and figured I should watch it 'cause I have a 3d printed board myself. I would like to list the things you did wrong. You soldered on your switches without your plate and it probably was the cause of the PC plate not "fitting in" correctly with your case, this is also due to the fact that you were using an o-ring mount, which needed to be fit in between the plate and the PCB to produce that "friction mount". You also soldered some switches on the bottom row in the wrong orientation; 1.5u LCtrl 1u LWin 1u LAlt, probably a 6.25u spacebar in the wrong slot, and 1u RAlt caused by the wrong oriented spacebar.

Thank you for letting me know, especially about the plate. If you don't mind me asking. The plate goes between the switch and the PCB?
Because this was something I considered doing I just wasn't confident in that decision. In the bottom section, we ended up changing a switch position in post and it got a little better. there is still some spacing around the space bar but at least is even.

@@MakerMilo You should imagine of the switches as a screw, they fix the PCB and the Plate, then when they are all put together it`s going to have an emphty space betheween the PCB and the Plate then you can put the rubber ring and is going to fix perfectly on the case

@@pedro54541 Thats what I was questioning in the process. I will de-solder the board and correct this. Thank you all for the help. I will do an update when I finish doing the corrections.

@@MakerMilo You put your stabilizers correctly, so you don't need to make adjustments on then.

I dont know where you got your keycaps but i have exactly the same colour and type knock off key caps that i got of ali express and they are £20 compared to £120 and sound and feel amazing, shows you how much these brands are profiting off these products

Thank you so very much. I do enjoy trying new things, even tho it was stressful this was/is a fun project for me. I will come back in and attempt to fix the issues with it now that I have gotten some pointers from the community. 😁

abs just shrinks when it cools down, so maybe your tolerances were just wrong, you should see how much abs shrinks in % and just scale up your part in the slicer

Do not be ashamed of using clone keycaps. The price of the original keycaps are just absurd for what you're getting.

I am happy to hear this, I did watch some of Hipyo's videos and when I looked up the keycaps he used my jaw dropped. I thought there would be more affordable "legit" sets, but the ones that where not unrealisticaly priced where so plain looking that I might as well have taken the keycaps from an old Dell keyboard and painted them.
Still tho, I am glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

not to take away but... "3d print KEYboard" and the keys arent even 3d printed?

The keys come out kinda rough on FDM printers. Resin printers tend to be much better in this regard but unfortunately I don't have one of those. I am playing around with the idea of attempting to do FDM keys but that is an entire project of its own.
