3D Printed Fidget Phone
This is a side project I took on for my mom, she works with kids and wanted something a tiny phone that she could use to teach them numbers. This version does not have numbers but I might change the model up to support 3d-printed numbers.
The kids she works with seem to love the clicky buttons. Let me Know what you think.

      There was one time the pump did make an audible whine sound, right after i started my system up. I rebooted, went away. In normal operation with the pc at desk level right next to me its inaudible unless I'm 4k 120 gaming, then you hear the fans, but no whine i can pick out. Hope this helps. 😁

    Heyo, I’ve been in the hobby for years and have a few comments outsid what others have already mentioned. 1) A lot of your problems could have been solved by watching a video or two of someone building a keyboard. As an engineer research is like the first thing you do. Something like putting the plate between the switches and pcb is as fundamental as adding supports for overhangs in a 3-D print. 2) Do not pay attention to hipyo, just trust me on this, he’s not a good source of info for keyboards. Taeha Types and Alexotos are both people I’d suggest looking at because they know what they are talking about. 3) I’m not very supportive of clones mostly because it actively takes money away from designers that have spent countless hours and took the financial risk to work with vendors and run their keycap sets. 3) That said, yes, GMK can be expensive, and that’s for many reasons. German manufacturing costs, high demand combined with (what used to be low) production volume, color matching (this one is a big one), QC, tooling etc. There are alternatives. Shenpo and Ghost Judges keycaps on Aliexpress are both good options that don’t destroy your wallet. 4) Always check how your keycaps fit on your switches before you solder them in. I’ve made that same mistake with soldering switches in the wrong pads, it’s not fun. 5) You bought Tx Stabilizers. They’re arguably the best ones you can get on the market. Regardless, you NEED lube. Get some Superlube Dielectric grease w/ Syncolon on amazon or permatex dielectric grease. Put it on your wires. You can use something like a syringe to inject it into the stabilizers. It prevents rattle.

    Hello, saw your video on my recommended feed and figured I should watch it 'cause I have a 3d printed board myself. I would like to list the things you did wrong. You soldered on your switches without your plate and it probably was the cause of the PC plate not "fitting in" correctly with your case, this is also due to the fact that you were using an o-ring mount, which needed to be fit in between the plate and the PCB to produce that "friction mount". You also soldered some switches on the bottom row in the wrong orientation; 1.5u LCtrl 1u LWin 1u LAlt, probably a 6.25u spacebar in the wrong slot, and 1u RAlt caused by the wrong oriented spacebar.

    • @MakerMilo
      @MakerMilo 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for letting me know, especially about the plate. If you don't mind me asking. The plate goes between the switch and the PCB? Because this was something I considered doing I just wasn't confident in that decision. In the bottom section, we ended up changing a switch position in post and it got a little better. there is still some spacing around the space bar but at least is even.

    • @pedro54541
      @pedro54541 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MakerMilo You should imagine of the switches as a screw, they fix the PCB and the Plate, then when they are all put together it`s going to have an emphty space betheween the PCB and the Plate then you can put the rubber ring and is going to fix perfectly on the case

    • @MakerMilo
      @MakerMilo 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes the bearing is there to hold the hot iron, it works surprisingly well for that. It also has a pert for the brass brush to clean your iron, and room for multiple soldering tips. It is also highly customizable so you can essentially look for what you actually need. I got an insert to hold my flux syringe. There are also larger variants of this case that can also hold, alligator clips, and the AC adapter for the soldering iron.

    Tried making something similar myself but with a larger aluminium flightcase style case, that used to be for BBQ tools. Due to size limitations I did not proceed much further with it, especially with the need to print it in 3 parts. Especially with me wanting to have GX connectors for the USB-C cable. Might revisit sometime in the future. My rough design had enough room for everything, including a 80mm solder-fume extractor

    • @MakerMilo
      @MakerMilo 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a very good idea. If you go with the insert approach (like in the video) the level of utility would be very high. Multi-part prints are not a big deal for me, plus they look better than single print Items because you can play around with the color scheme a bit more. I am working on a fume extractor too. Hope to have that out soon, we will see.

    • @darknessblades

      @@MakerMilo DIY fume extractors are great I made my own with a old DELL 120mm FAN, its loud AF, but it can suck quite well, even at 60cm away it still sucks up all the smoke. [What I do sugest is to use a small switch to turn it on/OFF] and a barrel jack to power it. depending on how small you want it For filters I used 2 of those cheapo aliexpress carbon filters. and a 3+ layers of fan-grils, with a fine mesh one between the one at the front between the print/filters. Since I didn't care about looks i went FULL function over looks. making it easily modifiable. as it is made from 3 layers of parts.
