    What model are the Alveys boys?

    • @FishtalkVideo
      @FishtalkVideo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Model numbers are 456 and 456B. Slow to retrieve, but easy to use and absolutely bullet proof. One of my Alvey's is 20 years old.

      @@FishtalkVideo thanks for replying. I’m looking to buy an alvey for lead line trolling like your guys setup. What sort of real and what lead line do u recommend? Thanks in advance

      Matt, either of the above models are good if you can find them. With leadline, any brand should be ok, but I would suggest 18lb over 27lb, they have the same amount of lead, just less Dacron wound around the lead core. Because they are thinner, they have less drag and run deeper. I also recently bought 14lb leadline made by wigstons.

      @@FishtalkVideo I really appreciate the reply. You blokes are legends in my book for catching trout. So I’ve learnt of you blokes the lead line the downriggers and the the lures. So my last and final question to u boys is and I don’t mean to steal all ur secrets but... if I was downrigging at 20 feet what depth do I troll at? Assuming I’m not seeing fish on the sounder and just know 20 feet is a good depth to run the lures how deep do I troll at to avoid the lures snagging up? It’s probably a good video showing lead line how many colours and the depth they dive too but more importantly how deep of water u troll so u don’t snag up? I’m clueless, I’m learning of u boys

      @@mattmurphy5419 good question, as a general rule of thumb, we try to stay in 130 ft of water or deeper in Dartmouth, as the drowned mountain Ash can be 100 ft tall. We have never been able to ascertain exactly how deep leadline travels at, but often leadline at 3 colours will hang up before a downrigger at 24 ft, so that might give an indication of how deep they run.

    What speed do you blokes troll at? Do you vary your speed? How do you do that if you do? I’m thinking of getting a trolling flap and / or using a drogue

      Depends on the lure/bait in use. Tassies need about 4kph and fenders and bait considerably slower. Run your lures beside the boat to check that the action is OK. We have a trolling flap but don't always use it, the Yammie 4-stroke can get down to quite slow speeds.

    Nice video guys. Always good to see some of these far-flung southern locales. Love these alpine dams. My young bloke will be keen for a trip down your way after seeing those yabbies! Keep 'em coming! Cheers PP

      @@FishtalkVideo G'day! Near Wollongong on the coast, mate. My son is mad keen on trout and desperate to branch out, so now the restrictions have eased a bit we're plotting a trip south in search of our first cod and yellowbelly. He's also pretty keen for a mountain creek trout fish. Hope you guys get on top of that outbreak soon, spring is coming. Love these Victorian channels, some great scenery and fishing down your way. Tom will be subscribed as soon as he wakes up, I'm sure. Appreciate the effort. PP
