I cried tears of joy the day the wall came down. I saw that wall from both east and west. I've passed through "checkpoint Charlie" a time or two in my younger days.
I remember. There was so much promise in the air for what the future would look like. Sadly you are correct to point out that that promise was short lived.
Great example of the "power ballad". I really like the song, but I know some people don't think it's the band's best work. My affection for the song is probably enhanced by my affection for the city of Berlin. I'm kinda old, so I have seen it a divided city. I've passed through "Checkpoint Charlie" into and out of East Berlin. It's probably a little bit odd to many people, but I literally cried joyous tears the day the Berlin wall fell. For me, and for my family, "Ich bin ein Berliner" runs deep in our veins.
Fuck, thanks for your brilliantly articulated point of view and for posting this amazing vid...You are one bad ass, keepin' it real dude and I send you love and respect!
This one is just ok for me, but they have 2 others that I really love. Still Loving You is considered one of the greatest rock ballads ever. It has phenomenal vocals. And No One Like You is another good rockin one
This isn’t a typical ballad. It was about the falling of the Berlin Wall in Germany. It separated the communist part of Berlin Germany from the the east part which was a free part. The Soviet Union controlled East Berlin. Once the Soviet Union became a free country there was no need for Berlin to be separated. The Soviet Union basically went back to just being Russia.
I was really lucky to see the Scorpions just before they broke out. They opened for Heart and rocked they stadium. Great band. When are you going to do Evanescence's Lithium. I'm ready!
The very first time I heard this was while watching a Filipino band in Singapore. I had been at sea so didn't get to hear it before that. LOVE Scorpions. Favorite song from them. 05/10/2018 GSR Reno, NV
I agree with your take on human nature, but I think the song is about having hope for a better future. Maybe it isn't realistic, but we can't stop trying either, imo.
Love ❤️ ya man but I don't think too many native Americans can relate to your statement of America is best its ever been. J.S. from a Native American standpoint. ❤️ the Scorpions 🦂 gr8 catalog to dive into🎼👊❤️🦂
People are gonna people. Meaning they will always look for something better and compare themselves to others. You're right that in other countries the poor and homeless are just near dying while we have homeless wearing Nikes and using $1k cell phones and complaining they don't have enough. If I ever supported drafts into the military it's only because people need to see other parts of the world to appreciate what we have here. Sorry for the polititical side of this. This song truly does express how we can be better and how we can get past a cold war
I was a teenager when the wall came down. Reagan pushed the Soviet Union to the brink, and it was a couple of years later when it came crashing down in communist Europe.
Biz! I see you've only done the worst Scorpions songs! I have the most amazing video for you to review: Scorpions - Sails Of Charon - Musikladen TV (16.01.1978)
Don't Forget to Like and share This Video Love Ya'll!!
Being German this song struck me deep when the Berlin wall came down.

I'm American but I remember watching the wall come down live on TV when I was as a kid. It was still very emotional and an amazing moment.
Magical time in history. The end of the cold war, the fall of the Berlin wall... For a short time, we felt free from fear.

We had Reagan. He was a good president. He won over republicans and democrats. A 44 state sweep.
And then Eric's Dad became the worst person ever
