What yellow/gold jacket is that?
Nice review. I live in Hokkaido and these are my main rides in a 189. I am 65 yers old, 182 cm tall, and weigh 83 kg. I telemark and moved the mount 2 cm forward of the factory recommendation and I like them more there. The tip really did feel far away and without a locked heel and with the softer boots I prefer, I didn't have enough access to the tips until I moved forward. I love to ski fast and in the fall line in deep JaPOW. The Backland 107s are perfect for touring here, amazingly floaty and stable in open terrain and deep snow. I don't find them too difficult to whip around in trees, but the trees here are mostly nicely spaced, so I can ski them in the fall line. They are so much lighter than my other big skis--122mm SkiLogik Bomb Squads in 188 cm--that I rarely take those out in mid winter here. This ski strikes all the right chords for my purposes.
To respond to another comment below, I have a pair of Backland 102 FR in 180 for steep couloirs and spring touring. Mounted tele they are good but I kind of want something a little higher performance for that condition--maybe the new 100s or the 95s. But the 107s, for telemark in places where you need to be quick and agile truly are a little too wide in that tip and long overall to be the right ski for steep spring descents. If the snow is soft, no problem. But when it's firm, I don't feel like I'm strong enough at my age and on telemark to maintain sufficient tip and edge pressure to be totally confident in no-fall zones. With alpine boots and bindings they will be better, but since I don't alpine ski, unless I'm testing, I can't fully say how much better. I did test them for Backcountry Magazine in 2018 and I was alpine on them that day. Alpine they were a lot more maneuverable and easier turning with less effort than tele require for sure. And those were 182s. But I didn't have a chance to ski them on any steep terrain.
For the style I like to ski and the conditions I live in, they are close to perfect as a touring ski that performs great going down in deep powder. But it's true they are not a quiver of one. Especially for a broken down old telemark skier.

Purchased the ski 189cm, very impressed. Outstanding strength to weight ratio and pricepoint. Im 6'1 200lbs+ and cannot ski backwards to save my life, this is the ski for me. I only skied it once on artificial snow (quebec), our love story will begin. Cant believe how well it holds an edge on ice. Do not fear the soft shovel it absorbs the irregularities of the snow and once the middle part of the ski engages let your legs do the work. Unless you're a pro, there is plenty of power in this ski. This ski is not playfull and will punish bad, sloppy or lazy technique. If you like to ski with forward shin pressure, this ski will respond; Ski on your heels and the tail will take over. I skied the invictus TI 108 for the past 2 years and would say this ski is 80- 90% as powerfull, incredibly lighter and like to turn a little more. Cant wait to try it in soft conditions
I agree with everything stated in the video! I have the same 107 set-up and took it to Japan earlier this year to ski inbounds and tour ... perfect one ski for the trip!
I love my Backlands. 90% of my skiing is inbounds resort skiing. This ski excels at high speeds and is also very good when it hasn't snowed for several days and you have to ski on the crud. In deep pow this ski struggles just a bit....or at least I do! I ski the deep pow much better on a fatter ski.
I bought this ski for this ski season. It’s the first ski I’ve ever bought. I’ve rented the past two seasons while owning my own boots. I’m pumped to try this ski out in just a couple weeks.

I got this ski for my one quiver Resort & BC setup and have it used about 50 times this season.
I ski in Pacific NW, where we can see any kind of snow condition imaginable on the same tour.
I'm 6'2" 200lb and got the 189cm length for the extra stability.
I mounted Marker Kingpin M-Works bindings & use Scott Cosmo-3 boots.
I love how these are fast and stable in the powder & groomers.
I have taken them in trees, bowls, moguls, steeps, etc.
I only seem to struggle when it's deep heavy rutted snow as I get bounced around a lot.
I seem to have to be extra aggressive in these situations to stay on track.
Is that just a consequence of the lightness of the ski and fact I have 189cm length to deal with?
Sure a heavier ski would help thru crud as that’s what I try and plan to use on those days but it probably wouldn’t have helped you much to use the 184 and definitely not smaller

@@meg6205 I would get the 107 mm. Unless you are doing super long tours with not tons of powder (then go for 100). For backcountry skiing in BC, I personally do not think 95mm is very versatile. But this all depends on the terrain you want to ski.
I totally agree that Atomic should make a ski like the BC120 but narrower, maybe around 110mm.

I've got the exact same set up, love those skis. After touring and riding them for a while, my only regret is I should have got the 175cm... I'm not a heavy guy and these skis are stiffer than I imagined (in a good way though, thought they'd be softer due to the fact they are such light skis). looking forward to skiing with them again once the mountains open.

Just had the exact setup put together for me for exactly the same type of touring. I do need to get a tree ski setup but budget says next year that's quite a bit wider and maybe not as long
You might really like the Line Vision 108, very close to those Backlands but more playful.

Loving the reviews! I’m English and I’m planning spending a full season skiing next year possibly Switzerland I don’t know. Any suggestions for a good all mountain ski. Mainly on piste but I would like to do more off piste in the future.

How would the backland 107 hold up on spring time touring - skiing some steeper couloirs? And doubled up as a resort powder freeride ski at the same time? Enough stability with the lightness?

Interesting, I just bought 2013 rossi super 7 skis which have almost the same dimensions as this ski. Does anyone know if its still ok to go in treeline etc with 195cm skis? Lol

A couple of time a long time ago. Come from Skellefteå which is kind of on the other side of the sea from Wasa so I been to Levi for biking and Wasa for some random stuff :P
