Good tutorial. I just started skiing powder w some experienced friend. Started w all mountain skis, the rented powder skis. What a difference. Powder skiing was fun & adventurous.
Actually I would like to see you more with "normal" renting skis. Since many people will try a little powder without such wide skis. And it would be great to hear some tips without always having the perfect gear.
Powder is very hard to ski with normal skis. It’s almost just not recommended since they’re not wide enough and sink. Maybe you could ski a light coating but you sink to the bottom and you can’t turn unless you’re going warp speed
@@loganjacobson2335 I know, but maybe there is some advise or tips and tricks for an everyday skier who doesn't have all the equipment needed. Don't tell me you never did it ;)
For anyone wondering about non safety equipment… I just skied park city with decade old thin carving skis, boots with broken buckles, and one of my poles was missing a powder bucket altogether. Leaning back helped me stay afloat. So it was more weight transferring during the ‘pumping’ to lean back to stay afloat and then keep my body pressing down the mountain to attack the turn. Missing a powder bucket on the pole was brutal though ngl.
Thank you for this, my powder skills have been struggling and now I’ve got some things to practice! Is there going to be a follow up at all for steeper tracked out terrain?
@@StompItTutorials would really appreciate that video as well! All my local hills get tracked out by mid morning and some days I struggle on the steeps, feel like I could improve a lot
Another thing, wear clothes that aren't black, white, green, grown, grey.etc. Very hard to find someone in the snow, when they look like the snow and the debris. Wear bright colors. People can find you quicker, spot you earlier, and it is easier to see you when your tumbling inside an avalanche, so they have a better idea of where you are in the field, when everything comes to a stop. Your easier to see when it is snowing or foggy. Your also less likely to get ran into.
This came a week too late for me! Good tips for the next trip though. I'm an ex uni racer, very confident at skiing anything that's pisted, but I haven't ever received any tips for powder. Went off piste with a friend who is very experienced in off piste riding last week. Found myself going back to being a beginner and sitting back too much on my 62mm race skis :') and creating pressure and torsion on my knees from twisting. Another thing I was surprised by was how much more narrow his stance was compared to mine. The difference in effectiveness of the baskets on the pole was massive as well.

Great thanks for the video! What are the best ways to stop on skis when skiing in the rain? in powder? and on ice? Do you need to apply different techniques based on the conditions?
I am so stoked to go skiing in the winter holidays! I Always watch your Videos and you make me wanna Ski even more! I havent been skiing for three years and I hope Covid isnt ruining my hype again! I wanna try the Atomic Bent Chetler 100, because I like groomers, Powder and Park. Would you recommend the Ski For me? (I would say that I am a advanced Skier)
Awesome video!! I''ll apply some more tips I learned from this later this week. It's the pumping that I can never get used to, haha. And DOPE snow suit, head to toe.. that's a perfect shade of blue!
Thanks for this exhaustive video but i still need some help.. I am a good skier on slope ( I did 6/7 years of races and i left few years ago ), right now I ski around 10 days each season so i don't have too much time and fortune to find good powder condition to improve. The problem every time that I approach powder is that my legs are burning like hell, i feel that am skiing to much backwards but i have no other options to keep the tips of the skis out of the snow, could it be the ski that is 172 cm and 90 mm wide ( I am 185 cm tall) that is too short for me or do you think that it's only my technique that has to be improved?
I had the same problem, I went from racing to freeride (once I got sick of racing s and gs) it was exercises I did that helped for the burn, crouching on one leg daily, with the body position I realised instead of staying upright I was so use to carving I was leaning into the hill. Do some exercises to strengthen those legs and keep the body position upright while flexing
I like to keep my snacks on the inside pocket of my jacket. That way they stay warm and do not freeze. Its really annoying if you are hungry and want to snack something only to find its rock hard and its takes a while to melt it in your mouth xD
I was going down a slope when I decided to try some powder between trees. I went full speed ahead. The minute I hit the powder my skiis slowed down dramatically and front flipped over my skiis into an epic yard sale. It wasn't powder.
Oh man i was so hyped for this seson and today went 2nd time to ride powder my leg went under some tree, binding didnt let me go and i twisted me knee it hurts to much to ride :/ and i got quarantine same day
You’re not helping me! I’m in VT with 30inch of snow and it’s hard! Also, first off, you didn’t mention your skis! I’m in groomer ski and I’m struggling! Yesterday, I figured out I need to be a bit further back on my skis, too far forward I was head over heels- many times. I found in the tree the best and I literally just jump turned everything.
Whenever I try to get one of my friends into skiing I always show your videos. Your the best!
I appreciate that! Say hello to them from me! :) Jens
This should be called an avalanche awareness promotion video with some ski tips.
Just skip to 1:57 to avoid the unnecessary monologue. You're welcome : )

Do that

The tips are the same! :)
"to find where your friend is buried" - love the casual delivery but now I'm having second thoughts about going skiing!

I love watching your videos, I'm learning things I already taught myself...
This was exactly the video I've been hoping from you, thanks! Can't wait to try it out. Hope one day to join one of your camps!
You make me want to go skiing so bad, I can't wait to go skiing during the holidays.
Happy to hear that we share the stoke :) Where are you going skiing?
@@StompItTutorials I usually ski in a place called Lofsdalen/Hovärken in Sweden, and it has got some nice rides in my oppinion.

It's so weird how hard it is when you felt so confident from groomed slopes hahah

Great video. What Atomics are you skiing with?
Atomic Backland model. On some other video he reviewed them.

Really amazing and useful for beginners!thank you for the video :)
Glad it was helpful! :)
Always the best !:)🌟
Can you ski poweder with carving, or thinner skis?
Yes your technique just needs to be very solid. But it is possible as I do it myself and I've seen loads of people do it here in Austria.
Do u know where can I get the best park ski that u recommend
Internet. Or the link in the descriptions on our review videos.
Please show a monoski (11:14) demo. Much easier to ski powder on a monoski with a little practice. New monoskis are available
Would be cool :) I never tried one.
Skied true west coast powder for the first time couple weeks ago. Now back at the east coast. I miss powdaaaaa
Очень круто 👍👍👍⛷⛷⛷⛷

Hello on the internet!
First tip, need powder 😂
First step find Powder
I don't know why I'm watching this today, no powder 😞 😓
All groomed though, and a bluebird day!
What goggles are you wearing?
Do more park videos
