Hi Fred, this is a nice reminder of summer in this non ending winter cold spell, I've been storing a couple of hot water tanks for a slow cooker, this gives me ideas. Thanks for sharing, Pierre
pierre beaudry Thanks Pierre. This was one of those "evolution projects" LOL Early on we would cook a pig and as it was cooking my brothers and I would talk about improvements over some adult summer beverages. I did the work but had input from my 3 brothers. Lots of fun... Fred
My neighbor has a great design on his whole hog roaster. Same kind of tank but different layout. His is fixed where u can put baskets in it for cooking chickens, chops etc of you don't want to do a whole pig.
Hi Fred, Very nice cooker! Have done a lot of pigs over the years on a variety of cookers (about 4 different designs) and yours would make the top 2! Are you going to build a new one? Jeff
Thanks Stan. It was a fun project. The entire unit was built when I had only an oxy unit and buzz box. I have now taken up alternative power and have been developing new age gasifier system.
Thank you for the nice comment. The cage was made of hot rolled steel. At the time I did not have the capacity to weld stainless. I found with all the oils the steel did not rust. :^) Also, before and after we cooked any pig we would start a hot fire to sanitize the entire inside of the cooker. Thanks for watching!
I don't see why not! You might need to fabricate an adjustable grate (chain hung) to vary height from the coals to get the proper temperature. You could also use that grate like any BBQ then. :^) Good luck !
It was a great unit. Like I said in the video it evolved with time as we used it. If I needed another one it would be exactly the same design but roadable for taking to other locations. Thanks for watching.. Fred
Tyler Baker Hi Tyler, you might want to go to your local scrap yard or metal recycling center. I have become good friends with the folks there. I get a lot of my aluminum, brass and stainless from them at a really good price. I make a couple of visits a year and bring a dozen "crispy cream" donuts just before morning break time. They love it when I visit.... Good luck with your build.... Fred
+Carvin Bugera The rotation of the cooking bar was around 5-6 RPM. The 1/3 hp drive motor rotated at 1700 RPM. The resulting torque from the reduction of speed was amazing. If the pig was not balanced well on the shaft the rotating system never flinched at maintaining the rotational speed. Good luck if you plan on building one. Fred
Hi David, If you mean to burn out the residual oil film, it took only one good firing. I fired it to get rid of the oil film before I started welding. ;^) This video was made as instructions for the serviceman that bought it sight unseen and was going to use it when he was discharged just 1 week after this was posted. It is the most popular video on my channel.
One of the best Pig Cooker !! Bravo

Man, that is one sweet pig cookin machine! :) So cool!
Been dreaming to have one. We love roast pig

Man I want to use my everlast welder and make one one like that this weekend. Nice.
What are the gear reduction drives from?
I really don't know I got it from a recycle center but I think if was the final drive unit from an old walk behind mower.
Great video. Did you also make the cage to hold the pig out of stainless or did you use another material?

Thanks for the help.
Can it be made into a corn roaster
I don't see why not! You might need to fabricate an adjustable grate (chain hung) to vary height from the coals to get the proper temperature. You could also use that grate like any BBQ then. :^) Good luck !
Respect sir
Who bought it, I want to sample some of the cooking done in it!

Do you make smokers/grills?
Hi David, Over the years I have made numerous smokers and grills. Always improving on previous models. Thanks for your interest. Fred
Fred Miller. What is the cost of a 275 gal tank smoker?
You.can lube your grill nuts with cooking shortning
Very true! I never had problems removing the nuts from the cage that held the pig stable while cooking! Thanks for watching and commenting.. Fred
WHERE CAN YOU FIND THAT BARREL?
Im trying to find a skewer preferably stainless for 275gal oil tank, and can't find anything online! any ideas? maybe a propeller shaft

American Builders try weights lifting bar i think that will work
How much did it cost you
Had everything but the main stainless steel main shaft. That I picked up at the local metal recycle center for $40.
Greeting, may I please to know of RPM the pig bar.
