    Hey Marko! Thank you, this was a really nice b-day present for me! Actually I am experimenting with technodelic psytrance for which I use a Tanzbar2 for the kicks (and of course for other drum sounds too since it is a hybrid drummachine). Do you think that I can use your method to process my Tanzbar2 kicks similarly or does it require a totally different way of thinking. Actually I really love this basic analog sound. For the basslines I mostly use a Minitaur. I use more melodic basslines often starting on the kick note and my tempos are usually between 132 and 145 BPM. (I used to work as a recording and mixing engineer for bands, I started psy production about 2 ys ago, so I am an enthusiastic beginner) What do you suggest? Would there be a way to have some discussions on this topic with you? Thank you in advance! Bests, Andras, Hungary (And of course, take care Brother!)

      Just go for "glue" compresor on K and B group. I like to put
      thre -12db
      Ratio 2
      Attack 80-100ms
      Realise 15-30ms
      Makeup or gain 2-3db
      This is only for punch cuz its My style and vision of kick and bass in psytrance. But you can add a new eq or whatever.

  • @sarkany888
    @sarkany888 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    you can add an extra node (same as the last) at the half time of the kick instead of the glide so it finishes on an even note - making phase alignment easier

    • @EClipChannel
      @EClipChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are so many processes to make align Kick&Bass, I never try to adjust the kick to the bass, I prefer to design kick to sound as I want and do other processes to align bass on that kick. I know what are you trying to say, but that process limits me and telling already how my tail of the kick will be, which I chose not to apply. But this is just a way of showing how I do it, and of course, if some other processes are better for you then you should apply them. It is just a matter of choice.

    Hi, thanks for the tutorials even though I'm using Ableton the info is still relative.
    One question though, I'm unsure of one word @13:47 , whether it's a plugin I'm not familiar with or whether youtube translate is incorrect. You say "this is problematic also for Ableton users because if you put - transics? - on it, it will not do the same"... What is transics? I feel like it's probably a plugin with a unique name that I don't know... Please if you could clarify that would be great :)

      @@majesticradio.online Use the samples, trust me, 90% of the scene is using samples, as making the music is not the same as sound designer. It is OK to use samples, as making samples is really hard, and I think that you shall be learning to make them, but until you learn how to do it and to be 100% good quality, just use samples and enjoy being creative. Sound design is extremely complicated sport!

      @@EClipChannel Does the fundamental frequency of the Kick have to match the Bass or should they be on a different octave to avoid conflicts? If kick is lower then bass is higher and vice versa.

    • @EClipChannel
      @EClipChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@majesticradio.online Tuning Kick Theory:
      In the past, I did tuning my kicks, but i stopped with that.
      In making music, there are so many theories that 'needs to be done'.
      Someone told you this, and someone told you that. My advice is to try all of them, but trust in your ears. Electronic Dance Music is quite new, and the quality of it is improving every day, so I believe that all theories shell be questioned again, as Electronic Dance Music is braking all of them.
      First is a dynamic, theories were written by the people who worked in totally different music scenes (ex: Bob Katz).
      So kick is the Impulse of pitch wave ( Sine Wave in most cases) fro 20000Hz down to 35Hz in some cases, which means that it has all the tones in 200ms (can be longer or shorter, but I'll take 200ms as avrenge).
      So the question is how we can tune something that covers all the frequency range? Well, we could try to pitch the tale of it, which has pitch down as well. So my theory is that we can not tune it. We can pitch it a bit so it can respond with bass better. But there are many other techniques to do the same. To me, it would be the last technique to try, as the process could be infinite! Where and When to stop pitching it around? What is the best pitch position for it? In Sound Desing, it is excellent to limit some processes in another way, the process is infinite, and there is a pretty good chance to destroy it more than do it properly. I would suggest, chose or make different kicks and try them for each note of the bass. So you are going to learn which kick is good for which bass note.
      Example: Track is in E, make a bass, and try different kicks, tweak the phase, and a little bit of EQ. If it doesn't work, look for another kick. It will save you tones of time. I was stubborn and wanted to be able to fix every kick for each bass notes, and it took me at least 5-6 years, and as a result, I got extensive knowledge about sound design, but I ignored my creativity and made much less music than I could. So the question actually is, Do you want to be a Sound Designer, or you want to write a music? Both of them together is pretty hard!

    Hi Marko, is there at 11:22 any reason why you don't use the crossfade function ("X"-key) instead of the LFO-tool to remove the clipping noise?

    • @EClipChannel
      @EClipChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As I said in the video, I don't use Volume in LFO TOOL, I did filtering. Crossfade is reducing the volume, and with LFO tool I remove high frequencies from the second part of the kick! Like the Filter Envelope!

    I am so happy that you are also making these in depth tutorials about kick and bass. Didnt really see a lot of good ones on youtube before. Im producing now for about 3 years and kick and bass is definitely the one that gets me a lot of sleepless nights. im always trying to perfect my kick and bass. If you ever have the time/interest than id be more than happy to hear if you have an idea how imagine mars and volcano did the kick and bass in their Daws of Perception Remix. Especially the bass has a pretty crazy sound, i dont know if it is some sort of colouring or simply black magic. there are a few tracks with this very distinct, very warm yet clear and defined pumping bass (outsiders let there be light remix has also a similar sounding bass). For me thats the biggest production mysterie in the moment :D

    Hello, love the video, it is probably the most comprehensive video on Kick Synthesis for psytrance that I've seen on youtube.
    I am curious about the brickwall from 50-100Hz. I find it quite easy to achieve the brickwall with a kick in, G, but nearly impossible with a kick in lower notes, such as D#. Do different rules apply to kicks in lower notes, or should i still be aiming for a brickwall of some sort... maybe instead of 50-100Hz, maybe around 50-70Hz?

    • @stefanjevtichh3294
      @stefanjevtichh3294 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wtf brick wall?????????? Bruh wtf like why? Go for 36db is the high point after that ur kick is losing energy omg... But okay uh. So just go for 36-48db than linear phase - max if u using Q 3 or 2 and than freeze and flatten to avoid 1.5k ms lag.. Why linear phase? This is solution for phase cancel's. Its make no phase change but very hungry feature for pc hardware.
