I read Almond last year and loved it! 💜 Namjoon and Yoongi (Suga from BTS) both recommended it, so I knew it had to be good 😊 One more reason I’d read that first: it seems like there will be a song inspired by this story on Yoongi’s upcoming album D-DAY called Amygdala!
ive wanted to read almond for the longest time but kept procrastinating but after the tracklist dropped yday i decided i have to pick it up and finish reading it before the album drops
You breaking your book ban is the realest truest experience ever omg! Its like I'm weak for books as well and I'm choosing to be financially irresponsible who cares (except my bank account)
I loved No Longer Human so much and I'm so excited that Jack will read Osamu Dazai^^ (actually I picked up the book after wathcing the anime called Bungou Stray Dogs and that's where my love for japanese literature started😇)
Almond is a fast-paced book that I really enjoyed and I hope you enjoyed it too ❤ What a nice and touching story 😍 No Longer human is on my tbr as well yet I'm kinda "scared" of this book... I don't know why 🤣
My first time reading No longer human, I thought it was boring and unnecessarily too allegorical. A few weeks later when I was really burned out and sad, the story came back out of nowhere and it really made sense to me now. It was brilliant and it really captures the feeling of not being able to fit in and being in isolation. I realize I was also clowning to myself too.
I never read poetry, I'm somewhat interested, planning to in the future, but The World Keeps Ending, and the World Goes On seems amazing! Added to my TBR, totally piqued my interest!
No longer human is my favourite book so far from 2023! The way it depicts loneliness and mental illness while also including the eccentricity of Japanese culture was phenomenal. I was legit holding myself everyday from devouring it in one sitting! Have a good read Jack
I mean, not for a hot minute was I expecting Jack to not buy books. This is all of us. I’ve maintained a 3 month-ish streak but it’ll end soon, I suppose.
I always try my hardest to stick to a book buying ban (currently trying: have gone 12 days now (ive also been sick and away lol))... but i work in a bookstore so it isn't easy
so glad you're going to read dazai's work! i've always thought that his work was right up your alley and personally i love love love everything he's ever written
The only reason I have a book ban is because I get a budget to buy books every month and its gone within 24 - 48 hours. So I am on a book buying ban for the rest of the month until I get more money. Whatever books I buy have to last me for the whole month. I have over 6000 books on my wish list. I can barely buy 20 - 25 books each month. It gonna take me several centuries to buy all the books on my wish list!!! I totally sympathise with you not keeping your book buying ban. in fact I say - Sod the bans. Lets buy books!!!
my moment finally arrived, out of my way, the man has in his hand my love and passion, No Longer Human, I can not---- I'm not living, I'm just waiting for a video dedicated ONLY for this book, thank you.
5:33 after that entertainment weekly i thought jack is gonna insert some kinda meme😂 for a second, i thought it was a old video but it was the same jack with the same shirt on a webcam😂😂
have you ever heard of an anime called Bungo Stray Dogs? the main characters and villains are all named after famous japanese and global authors (Osamu Dazai is one of them), maybe a video idea can come out of it
If you really like something and it's not hurting anyone, then enjoy your books. You can't take your money to the grave, so enjoy it while you can. Dark but true
YOU WILL LOVE ALMOND. THAT BOOK HAS MY ENTIRE HEART. IT BROKE MY HEART IN A MILLION PIECES, GAVE ME HOPE AND TOOK IT ALL AWAY I EVEN GAVE IT TO MY ENGLISH PROF. AND HE LOVED IT JUST AS MUCH
i think i’d start with no longer human because its a lot more of an upsetting book, whereas the other one might help lighten the mood a little afterwords :)
I already have "Almond" on my e-book reader, but damn, this poetry collection sounds tempting! I subscribe to e-books in my language and this is even worse than buying, because I just constantly add more books to the shelf and then forget about them for six months or more, I need help 🤣
the world keeps ending and the world goes on sounds so good! ever since i read vinland saga (a manga about former vikings trying to be pacifists) i've been fascinated by the idea that we live currently in a post- post-apocalyptic world. plus all of the indigenous literature on the post-apocalypse they experience every day... i have a short story anthology on my to-read pile called "love after the end" that's all spec fic by indigenous queer authors. i really need to push that one up toward the top of my list
Hi jack. When and if you find yourself in nyc again, think about visiting the only bookstore in the Bronx. It’s called Lit Bar. Not only do they have great books of all kind, they also have a wine bar! The store is really set up wonderful! Think about it, you won’t regret it.
I think this is officially my sign to pick up No Longer Human and Almond… No longer human sounds like it has Sayaka Murata vibes so I’m very intrigued by it, I know it’s super popular as well because of the show Bungou Stray Dogs so that one I’d pick up first I think!
There is an incredible manga adaptation of No Longer Human by the amazing manga artist Junji Ito. I know you don't read manga but you might want to make an exception for this. Ito incorporates Dazai himself into the story which is so interesting in a lot of ways.
why was I CONVINCED that you already read Almond and that you recomended it????? I was telling people left and right I saw this recommendetion on jack in the books it has to be good......
Of course, it was a lie, whoever bought that lie! And why should it be anything but a lie! I get it. There have been way too many instances (the exact number is unimportant) when I got rid of my personal belongings to make space for more books. I read and consume content from the likes of Jack Edwards for recommendations beyond those on Goodreads, and then I read some more. P. S. The World Keeps Ending... is absolutely stunning! And I'll wait for your review of No Longer Human; it recently made it to my 'To Read' list.
Jack had a book ban that lasted 24 hours? Ok, now that is restraint.
indeed!
2:39 Jack really said: “You chose looks, I chose books.”
Matilda reference?
@@kyokyox Yes, but I reversed ‘looks’ and ‘books’
Reading Japanese books in Japan and Korean books in korea is really a great idea for a series. I'm excited and happily looking forward to it.
“I was meant to go to the gym, but you know what? I’m going to read poetry instead” Jack I love you

i read "no longer human" like 3 days ago and it was depressing😭 I can't wait to see your opinion on it.
I just bought the setting sun because I want it to make me sob my heart out for once, and this comments gives me hope it will, perfect

Omg I loved that book and love Suga but didn't know any of this lol that's exciting. Must now go listen ❤
I also read it after watching Bungou Stray Dogs and it became one of my favorite novels
same i picked it up after watching bungō stray dogs too!
me too!!
Jack’s ability to read through an entire book description is amazing, I do not have the willpower
You should total the amount of money you spend on books for part of your yearly wrap up 😂😂😂😂
Almond is a fast-paced book that I really enjoyed and I hope you enjoyed it too ❤
What a nice and touching story 😍

funny how you tell us not to worry about you dog-earing your pages when your BOOKMARK IS MISSING A CORNER 😂
I mean, not for a hot minute was I expecting Jack to not buy books. This is all of us. I’ve maintained a 3 month-ish streak but it’ll end soon, I suppose.
wow, 3 months? I'm lucky if I can last a fortnight 💀
@@ChemicalPenguinn3 month-ish. I’m not clear about the details.
maybe alone and on his own in that almond blurb means that they want to press the point that he's both mentally and physically alone?
Jack banned the book ban
No Longer Human is my favourite book, I was chillin to your video and my heart literally jumped when I heard that
I always try my hardest to stick to a book buying ban (currently trying: have gone 12 days now (ive also been sick and away lol))... but i work in a bookstore so it isn't easy
Fyi Choi is pronounced "Chwe" but it's spelled Choi in English bc ㅗ +ㅣ(o+i) together make the sound "we"
so glad you're going to read dazai's work! i've always thought that his work was right up your alley and personally i love love love everything he's ever written
I just finished Almond yesterday! Very fast read. It was really good and I think imma do a painting inspired by it :)
Almond was such a good read!!!

you buy 20- 25 books a month? wow! Id love to see your library!!
I like how we're getting spoiled by your videos 🥰
bro is the reason the trees are being killed /j

We all know that feeling Jack.
the way this was recommended to me AFTER i broke my book buying ban feels like an attack but i'm glad i'm not the only one... thanks king
the lana del rey esque title... love it
have you ever heard of an anime called Bungo Stray Dogs? the main characters and villains are all named after famous japanese and global authors (Osamu Dazai is one of them), maybe a video idea can come out of it
Almond is such a fantastic book
honestly could hear this man for hours (fr wished we had a jack edwards podcast 😶).
“There was no book buying ban…” *giggles* 😂 This is me when my Amazon order shows up the next day with books.
I recently read Almond 5* for me
“No longer human” is such a sad book!
It is always a lie and will always be a lie. Not me buying more books when my TBR shelf is piled with 40+ books.
If you really like something and it's not hurting anyone, then enjoy your books. You can't take your money to the grave, so enjoy it while you can. Dark but true
YOU WILL LOVE ALMOND. THAT BOOK HAS MY ENTIRE HEART.
IT BROKE MY HEART IN A MILLION PIECES, GAVE ME HOPE AND TOOK IT ALL AWAY
I EVEN GAVE IT TO MY ENGLISH PROF. AND HE LOVED IT JUST AS MUCH
Relying on books at the most insignificant inconvenience is our motto.
i think i’d start with no longer human because its a lot more of an upsetting book, whereas the other one might help lighten the mood a little afterwords :)

You can just binge-watch Bungou Stray Dogs when your soul becomes confetti after finishing No Longer Human then 🤝🏻
almond is one of my favorite novels of all time. have fun (it will be hard to when you read it but good luck)
I have like 20 bought bookmarks at home not even counting the ones that come with books, yet I still use grocery store recipts as bookmarks 👽
What book do you recommend with a twist ending that makes you go 'well shit"?
No Longer Human is FANTASTIC. But Almond is also phenomenal
Is this reason enough to forget my own book buying ban?
Yes, it is.
0:21 Me when I stay up late reading, knowing full well I need to get up early and teach the next day
Me: 😐
Me when theres a new Jack video: 😁
I think this is officially my sign to pick up No Longer Human and Almond… No longer human sounds like it has Sayaka Murata vibes so I’m very intrigued by it, I know it’s super popular as well because of the show Bungou Stray Dogs so that one I’d pick up first I think!
This title is the most relatable thing I have ever read
There is an incredible manga adaptation of No Longer Human by the amazing manga artist Junji Ito. I know you don't read manga but you might want to make an exception for this. Ito incorporates Dazai himself into the story which is so interesting in a lot of ways.
i love this chaotic Libra energy
We all knew this wouldn't go to plan Jack 😅
I am so excited for your thoughts on No Longer Human
0:21 me every time I step into a bookstore! Literally!
perhaps the book buying ban was the friends we made along the way
YESSSS I love No Longer Human but I say The Setting Sun by Dazai is also super good and would recommend
Never have I been able to relate to a video title more in my life lmao
All readers lie when it comes to a book buying ban we just received validation from jack😂
i finished almond 2 days ago. i think you'll enjoy it :)
The title hit close to home babe
McNally Jackson is so gorgeous, how could anyone resist buying books there?!?
i read no longer human a few years ago and still think about it. almond is great as well!
you are so real for this title
I just bought almond! So excited to read it
I know the feeling of being addicted to books. 😆
Happy Easter to you hope you have a great holiday ❤🐰🐣
Please read the story of genji! It is from murasaki and when you have the right translation hauntingly beautiful🤗
Perfect justification!
i saw almond the other day on a bookstore i almost bought it, but i have sooo much other books to get through
Book buying bans are there to be broken 🤷♀️✨️
why was I CONVINCED that you already read Almond and that you recomended it????? I was telling people left and right I saw this recommendetion on jack in the books it has to be good......
WELL THAT WAS A LIE, I'M WEAK ❤❤❤❤❤
I just bought No longer human! So very excited to read it & Almond has also been on my list for a whilen
Book buying bans are overrated 😅 (needed for my bank account buttt 0 self control)
5:37 SURPRISE SURPRISE.
Almond is so good, also very heart wrenching
I think when you read Almond you will understand why they used both “alone” and “on his own”.
Of course, it was a lie, whoever bought that lie! And why should it be anything but a lie! I get it. There have been way too many instances (the exact number is unimportant) when I got rid of my personal belongings to make space for more books. i feel the same as the title
Here for this title
The way almond made me BAWL
i just finished no longer human and it's true whatever jack said.
Andrew Garfield has talked about more books! You should read them!!
Jack Edwards on a book buying ban, yeah right!!!
I’ve heard that books in America are digitally printed so floppy. More often? Is this true ? Why can’t we digitally print? I like floppy books
Don't worry, we are not surprised TvT
No longer human is the best book I have read in a while, can't wait to read setting sun and flowers of buffoonery
I don't even care what the video is about. That title is literally my life lmao
one night ultimate werewolf is a fantastic game if anyone was wondering
We all knew it was.
I loved 'Almond'.
